I was told Gage Wood played his first game.

How did he look?

Hagen fought hard tonight. He is who he is at this point - he’s gonna throw a ton of pitches and be wild at times but the dude is nails. Good, very efficient inning by Adcock. And Wood just continues to be lights out. Great work by the pitching staff tonight. Would love to eke out one more game this weekend.

Yep.

Our staff pitched a 2 hitter on the road in Hagen’s first start in a while in a game where he was having trouble locating.

Kudos to him for finding enough to get through 5, Adcock for pitching a clean inning, and Wood coming on for yet another 9 out save.

I’m a fan of DVH’s “let’s win the one in front of us and figure out tomorrow when it comes” mentality. Wins in this conference are tough enough to get regardless of who and where you’re playing.

Speaking of which we are sitting at 15 wins with 8 games left. 20 wins guarantees home field advantage though the supers. 19 might do it with our sos this year.

Win this series and then hold our own against SC and we should be fine.

Every time we walk away with a series win, I somewhat scratch my head. This team is perplexing to me. When I look at the pitching and hitting stats, it tells me that we shouldn't be doing near as well as we are.

Truthfully, the only series the entire year that disappointed me was the Georgia series.

Per DVH, Tygart will start today (with McEntire coming in in relief) and Hollan will start tomorrow.

Good to hear the extra two days of rest are helping Hollan get back on track.

For top 8 we'll definitely need to win one of the SCar or Vandy series. As far as simply hosting a regional, I think we're 3 wins away. Win this series and take 1 in each of the next two weekends.

Our schedule also turned out to not be nearly as daunting as it looked before conference play started. Both Mississippi schools were duds, A&M isn't meeting expectations, Auburn and Alabama are Auburn and Alabama'ing, Tennessee was reeling coming into Fayetteville, etc.

Obviously our schedule compared to 95% of college baseball teams is still very impressive, but we got a huge favor getting those east teams backloaded. We benefited from the West being down this year for sure. We're not a bad team by any stretch, but this isn't the normal West buzzsaw either.

Having said that, I do agree with the Georgia week being really the only week that the team specifically just did not show up.

We might catch USC at a good time. They have a lot of injuries

Their pitching depth makes ours look like an MLB team.

Three fans at the State game had their reaction to Tygart's slider recorded. The two State fan's reaction up front, and the Hog fan in the back:

A 20 win SEC conference record will be a top 8 national seed.

Hogs are 16-7 in league play with 7 games left.

Vandy will be tough, however they are losing some they definitely shouldn't. Did they have injuries as well?

And how is USC lately. I will look at the sec network site. I would think 18-19 would do it. But maybe now.

USC is an odd team.

They started out on fire and were — in my opinion — unequivocally one of the best two teams in the country through early April.

However, they’ve won one SEC series since the beginning of April (sweep of Florida). This is their series record since that time:

LSU - tied 1-1
Vandy - lost 2-1
Florida - won 3-0
Auburn - lost 2-1
Kentucky - lost 2-0 (1 to play)

Good sweep. A&M won series over UF too.
