I think there's an element of truth to every complaint about last night. We obviously need to add some outside scoring ability and it's been clear that JWill's more of a skills/finesse player than someone who's going to use their size to assert themselves for a while.
Talking to my buddy last night, my conclusion overall ended up being that we were two role players away from a championship team. If this team has a Rotnei Clarke instead of a Chris Lykes and a Moses Kingsley instead of a Vanover, it's probably a championship team.

Those are both good shouts besides abysmal defense by Rotnei.
Just looked at draft projections, Duke has 4 guys going in the first. Ridiculous.
They have the #1 class coming in and are sitting at #1 for next year with 2 5 stars already.
It’s kind of ridiculous this is their first final 4 since 2015.
Also, having zero time to prep clearly showed on defense.

quote:That was intentional. Lykes wasn't worth a damn on the defensive end either, but at least Clarke would have been a threat from deep and covers the same role at the free throw line at the end of games. Essentially I was attempting to find a way to show that even with defensive weakness at that roster spot, just having the added role of a sharpshooter alone would have propelled this team significantly.
abysmal defense by Rotnei.
Kingsley I think speaks for itself.
Also frick Duke.

Yes frick Duke.
Rivals is saying Jaxon, Devo, Kamani, KK and Vanover will be elsewhere next year for what’s it worth.

If Lykes wasn't so selfish, he would be more productive.

I would hope Devo would stay.

The problem with Clarke is that he doesn't have the athleticism to do much good against that Duke defense.

I have no problem with this. Devo took most of the year off anyway.

Pure speculation. Just sharing what the word is over there.
Devo just didn’t seem to buy in. I don’t know what was going on with him but expected him to be a lot better this year and he wasn’t.
Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Good
Outside of Devo none of them have contributed much since they been here.
If we are going to make a run we need horses that want to work and compete for a starting spot.

I want devo to stay

I'll be legitimately sad if Devo leaves. One of my all time favorite hogs. He could do absolutely nothing for the next 2 years and he'd still be good in my book.

We just went to the elite 8 with a team that can't score. Think about that for a second.
Very encouraging for the future. This team ended up buying in and getting to an elite 8. Nothing against them, but they may end up being Muss's least talented team while he's at Arkansas. Hopefully the success we've had the last two years will make it easier for the new guys to buy in from day one.
Was hoping for a first round win at best when season started and maybe a sweet 16 if the stars and match ups aligned. Just the fact that we had to chance to believe we might could go all the way is enormous. The team can legit beat anyone in the country on any given night even with our lack of offense. That's amazing and is what we make us perennial contenders. Just get deep enough to have a puncher's chance each year. Defense travels.

Yeah the other day I told my buddy that it was incredible we were in the Elite Eight with a team that more or less couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. This team had 1 guy that I trusted to make a wide open jumper (Umude). Last year's team probably had two or three guys. If we find a few guys who can shoot and are willing to play defense then we'll be dangerous.

Hoping they know and accept this 100% when they sign. Playing great D can be a deciding factor in you getting to the NBA or not.

Jaxson was a weird take to begin with, and he got more shots than I thought he would. ORU or Tulsa makes sense for him.
Kamani is another no brainer, did log a few minutes at times because we had no other body down low but his off the court issues with lack of playing time is easy writing on the wall.
Vanover is obvious no more needs to be said there.
KK also pretty obvious, never materialized plus the injury seemed to really derail him.
Devo the only one that can still play D, make big shots, etc. I'd like to keep him for off the bench if we can.

Same, just don’t think he sees himself as an “off the bench” guy.
Which I’m thinking might be part of the issue.
Total guess though.

With Notae and Umude gone, who do we anticipate getting their minutes if not Devo and Smith? If Black announces for Arkansas then I could see Devo being anxious but if Black isn't coming and we don't land some huge unknown transfer guard then he should be in line for big minutes. And that assumes Toney comes back. If he leaves then we're wide open.
