Lol at the recruiting writers acting like they have info. Their sources are football coaches and players, those two groups of people don’t know a damn thing about a basketball coaching search.

Those media members are Hogville agents.

Quite ironic if you ask me.

No, trust me. It is Gregg Marshall. Presser at 4. If I'm wrong, I will just ignore this post and pretend it didn't happen.

Those idiots do know there is no rush to hire Marshall when this is the current job openings right?

I mean Kennesaw St may put some pressure on us but we can probably pay more.

The only one we really have to worry about if a few of their other names get crossed off the list. This was actually a very good year for us to get in the coaching search.

I feel I’ve done my educational duties over there with the last topic I will ever create on that board. Now time to actually get some work done since I haven’t done much all week.

I bet you're right. I had mentioned in another thread that may be the case. We may see a "shuffling of the deck chairs" type thing with a lot of schools. With the FBI thing, some of the guys bending the rules may look to get out of Dodge, or be forced out of Dodge quietly.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Yurachek and everyone else who said fire him this year was right.

If it makes a difference to you, most of us really do like Mike and wish he would have brought us back to where we want to be.

And Vanderbilt just hired Stackhouse.

Only current P5 openings are now UCLA, Arkansas, and VA Tech.

Supposedly:

The latest with Marshall is he wanted a 7 year deal, but the admin didn't like that he wanted to bring Isaac Brown with him from WSU.

Brown was an assistant under Pel who had a run in of some sorts and had to be placed in an admin role.

Marshall is mad now.

Also, there are some that feel very strongly we will get Chris Beard after all.

Latest update from Biddy. Sounds like a train wreck search and we’re setting ourselves up to get Malzahn’d again, if this is all true.

This is basically what I've been hearing. Some of it is very similar to what others have told me but nothing is completely the same, so take it for what it is. Somewhere in here is the truth, I believe. Until I state differently, it's rumors.

Kelvin Sampson - Was targeted for the job initially. I know it didn't come down to the coach in waiting deal, but Sampson opted to stay with Houston for several of the reasons I outlined before. I know this because it's as close to as you can get outside of having a conversation with Sampson. The coach in waiting deal was some extra sugar from Houston. It literally came up once in their discussions. He left a place he was happy at before, and you don't do that twice. He has a lot coming back next year and was right there competing with the SEC's best in the tournament. He can win his league year after year and still be as good as an SEC team.

Eric Musselman - There is stuff literally all over the place with this guy. I do think Arkansas has been in discussions with him but it fell through for a myriad of possible reasons depending on who you listen to, including that he thinks he's worth more than Arkansas offered or the decision was blocked by the BOT for another myriad of possible reasons, including they think they have a chance with Chris Beard.

Greg Marshall - Some say he was offered the job and it wasn't the deal he wanted (I've heard it said 5 years for $25 million total and 5 years at $4.1 per year year). I have heard he did not want to wait on Arkansas talking to Chris Beard, and I've heard he wanted 7 years and Arkansas didn't want to do a 7-year deal. Everybody has pretty much said he's out of it, but I do very much believe he was in it, and I can't say for certain that he absolutely is out of it.

Chris Beard - Since very early in the process, I have heard they want to talk to Chris Beard. I heard that at some point that faded a little but that it picked up after the Gonzaga game through someone reaching out on behalf of Arkansas. I have also heard to the slight contrary that the interest has never faded and has always been very mutual. But at the same time I feel confident they came after Sampson. Maybe a one in the hand type of deal? I hear Beard wants to be at a place that is more basketball friendly with a higher ceiling, have heard this from two sources I want to believe, and if the price and deal is right then he'll jump. There is always the possibility that this is a leverage move at the biggest negotiating point in Beard's career.

Basically what my sources are saying is if Arkansas makes the right deal then it could happen. Something that happened yesterday that verified a source for me in a way makes me want me to believe what they're saying, but I'm just not close enough on it to run with it like I was on the Chad Morris search. I think it's possible once it gets closer to happening that I will also get the answer, but I can't know that for sure. With Morris towards the last five days or so, I knew I was going to break that story, and I don't know that about this search. Does Beard want to spend the rest of his career at Texas Tech? Does he want to wait on the Texas job? The other side of the coin is that this is all absurd and obviously a leverage move because he's in the Final Four and would never leave (and maybe I should just listen to my brain on that).

Finally, Fran McCaffery and Richard Pitino are two names that have come up, but there really isn't a lot of momentum behind them...though I've heard more on Pitino lately.

I think Arkansas and UCLA are fishing in different ponds thought, just like Vandy and Arkansas. Not saying we are currently inferior or anything, just looking at different qualities etc.

But I agree, the power guys who want Beard and are pretty sure they can get him better be right.

This is interesting if true. Not sure I blame anyone on the BOT or AD side if they didn't want anyone back that was here with Pel. Really amazing his career here ended like it did without much getting exposed.

Uh what?

It's pretty public he had a problem with prescription drugs, showing up on time if he showed at all, being a decent neighbor and having a staff that didn't try and fight his players.

Not to mention all the rape and cheating allegations.

That hire was a colossal train wreck. Makes Bert look like we hired Saban.

Yep, won't believe it till I see it but this is going to be a big frick up if they strike out on Beard plus Marshall and Musselman.
