I don’t know how the class this year will look but he’s already getting some serious ‘20 kids to visit. If he has a good showing this year on the field that shows forward momentum then there’s not a doubt in my mind that we will have a big time class next year.

Let me clarify. I am all aboard the chadillac i thought he was a gopd hire still do and think we couldnt have gone wrong with him or the guy from memphis, but what i said about coaches is my belief for all coaches at the u of a. 3 years without success and they should be shown the door.

This is the same thing everybody said about the '19 class recently. Meh

I still contend our in-state media, and perhaps message board fodder/ social media, is to blame for this false narrative that in-state recruiting isn't important to Morris. The guy has done more for HS coaches in this state in 6 months than any of the previous 2 coaches combined. The access and attention he gives them is unparalleled.

The same people getting pissed about his comments of building a TX pipeline are the same ones who'd be pissed if he signed 25 guys from AR. I don't care where he spends his time if he brings in guys who can play.

Also, I'd argue recruiting has changed drastically since Bert was hired. We now have the SEC Network, every game from every team worth a dang is on TV. Social media gives players access to coaches like never before. I mentioned this once before, but 10+ years ago kids weren't watching videos of Dabo dancing with his players in the locker room, etc. Now they do so programs have a much broader reach.

I grew up a hog fan, that was the only thing I knew. But even 18 year old me wouldn't be exactly excited to play for the Hogs based off what I watched the past 2 seasons. Putting a team on the field that actually has a pulse would help that. Winning games will help even more.

People these days aren't patient enough and I swear there are folks in this state pissed that Morris didn't have the Hogs playing in the NC game last season. After all, he was hired more than 1 month before the NC game. Plenty of time get us in that game in their minds.

He hasn’t coached a game here yet.

I was referring to the part that sounded like "excuse, excuse...but we have some big visitors coming in, this next class is going to be awesome!"

You mad about the baseball team winning so now you’re shitting on the football program?

No.

quote:

Morris made a point to hit every high school in the state and potentially hit on some good in state prospects this past class that Bert wasn’t going to get.

He has made it a point to recruit the coaches more than the players. Having an open door policy for every HC in the state is fine. The state HS football advancing to where one of the biggest schools in the state is no longer running the triple option would be a good thing long term.

If his plan on in state recruiting is to have the coaches do it for him (as it is done in Texas) he will fail.

There is not proof Bert wouldn't land these guys, he wasn't failing on such a large percentage of instate recruits as Chad appears he is going to, Petrino wasn't even this bad with the top in-state recruits.

quote:

If we don’t get the instate prospects it’s not for lack of trying. 6 months to try and build a relationship with these guys who have been recruited for 2+ years by other programs is no easy task.

Nebraska has been a dumpster fire with a shitty product for far longer than Arkansas, do you think Frost is going to whiff on every major in state target in Nebraska? He's had even less time solely on the job and was coming in from a farther distance at his previous school (UCF didn't recruit Nebraska, there ins't any reason for the Texas schools to not recruit Arkansas).

quote:

I’ll be absolutely disappointed if we fail to land some of the instate talent, but you can’t put that all on Chad.

It is his job to sell these guys on staying instate and playing for his program. If they are not interested he needs to identify the problem and correct it. At this point we have never seen this number of top recruits fleeing the state, the threat was there in 05, but Broyles/Nutt corrected the problem and kept the major recruits home...

He stated as much as Texas being the most important recruiting territory in his hiring presser, it hasn't been taken out of context, its what he came in with for his first impression.

Yes, 2nd on his priority list was the HS Coaches, the actual players fell to being on par with the "other areas" such as LA, MS, and OK...

Exactly. It was "Its Bert's fault the 18 class was the worst we've ever signed in the rankings era, but he used the time to get in on several big 19 recruits".

In 19: "Its Bert's fault the 19 recruits are no longer interested in Chad, but wait until you see the 20 class"

In 20: Its Bert's fault, he did more damage in recruiting that anyone could have forseen, but wait until you see the '21 class".

If he doesn't produce results on the field and turn around the recruiting, we are looking at a Butch Jones situation where the next hire will be even further down the up and coming ladder I'm afraid. Probably end up with Rhett Lashlee.

I see we’re still running with this inaccurate stat. Good to know.

is it me or have we already formed a couple camps. team Chad sucks and will fail vs team excuses with future promises.

at this point I've got concerns but it's still super early in his tenure.

I'm not in either group. I'm going to give Morris a chance. I don't have high expectations this year. I want to see some improvements by the end of the season and a better team in year 2. I expect us to be a good team by year 3. If we don't win at least 8 games by year 3 then we may be in teouble.

Did I miss something where this season's already over and we went 3-9 and Chad's first full recruiting class was ranked 91st in the country?

We haven't played 1 game nor is the recruiting cycle over. Everyone needs to let the man try and do his job and see what happens before we grab the torches and pitchforks

my exact same feeling but i think we should do ok this year because the schedule is very forgiving compared to normal standards

There is also a ton of seniors on this team. We could do better than expected with this schedule. We did go 4-8 last year though.

We definitely have better than 4-8 talent on this roster. Last year was just a clusterfrick like the JLS year.

The more scholarship players that leave, transfer out and end up at the caliber schools they do, I start to wonder about our talent.

Danny is reporting that Hudson Henry is most likely going to be at the cookout.
