Pittman was in charge of JUCO recruiting.

He's got a thing for Fuente. He wants to be a WR.
Offered him back in HS when he was at Memphis.

Well he's a 2017 recruit so I'm assuming his sophomore season is this fall...
Supposedly will be a December grad, so he should be here for next spring. Will have 3 to play 2 as far as I know.

Daniel Gafford, 2017 PF: The future Arkansas Razorback came out showing his teeth on Friday afternoon. In a matchup with coveted 2019 big man Chol Marial, he was simply dominant, scoring 19 points, grabbing seven rebounds & blocking three shots. What separates him from most other big men in his class is the energy he brings at all times, which was on full display here, as he was barking consistently throughout the game.

Picked up another LB commit from Louisiana. Josh Paul.

His film looks great. He definitely has a nose for the ball and is quick to get there.
They will put some weight on him, and he will be good to go.

Good looking athlete

I like that it seems like we're trying to get more speed at linebacker. We've sorely missed that for years.

Love how we continue to recruit Louisiana

That's been our strategy for a while now. I'm pretty sure Hackett, Ramsey, Eugene and Greenlaw all played safety in HS.
It just hasn't really worked yet.

Always good to get a New Orleans athlete.
I'm stupefied why it took 20+ years for an Arkansas coach to attack that talent base.

It takes time. Usually these guys don't mature until about year 3. It takes time to learn a new position and put on quality weight.

Am I dreaming, or just plain stupid? Didn't we go that route in a previous era too, but it was a time when our opponents were a little more run heavy and not so much spread? Seems like it didn't work too well then and we griped about it a lot.
Times and styles constantly change though, LB's have got to be able to cover now.

Is Arkansas HS football pretty good?

As compared to some other SEC states, no.
We are the least populated state in the SEC first of all, therefore, less of a pool of potential Div.1 level athletes. We realistically may have 3 or 4 a year that are SEC level.
Also, we didn't have spring practice for footbiall for a long long time, so our players were behind some of the states that did.
That said, I don't think HS football is any more exciting, any more competitive any where else in the country. If you like watching football, in that sense it's good!

I just know our linebackers have always seemed slow as hell

it's one thing to intend to convert DB's to LB's. it's another thing entirely to be able to evaluate and develop those DB's that become LB's
nutt's and petrino's ability to evaluate and develop those DB's turned LB was sorely lacking many times. the jury's still out on bert's ability to do it imo

It's better than what most believe. However, there's a huge gap in coaching quality, facilities, community support, culture of commitment and winning between communities across the state.
Also many players are misused, play out of position or are system players that struggle to adapt.

This is true. I'd say some of our best athletes don't even play football at all due to this.
