I’m done for the semester and now have time to get back to writing. I wanted to write a piece that explains how the 2015 team was the best Alabama team under Saban. Would you guys be interested in reading a piece that will discuss this? Or do too many of you disagree with it?

Why I think the 2015 team was best-

All-time great defense (maybe the deepest front seven in CFB history)
A good QB
Good offensive weapons
Heisman trophy winner
SEC Champs
National Champs
Proved they could win a shootout and beat elite QBs (when they beat Watson and a very good 14-0 Clemson team)
Physically imposing like the 2009-2012 teams

A couple of more reasons:

1. The players on that team helped lead Bama to the Playoffs (and a near win over the eventual national champ) in 2014. And many of the key players from 2015 helped lead Bama to another title in 2016. This team was led by probably the deepest classes Alabama has ever had, and 2015 was the peak.

2. The 2016 team was great and is said by many to be our best ever, but the defense was not quite as deep as 2015, and the 2015 was better at a key position: QB.

3. Insane talent/star power - Humphrey, Fitz, Allen, Williams, Ragland, Foster, etc were on that team. An insane roster from top to bottom. Maybe/maybe not the most talented Bama team ever, but certain worthy enough to be in that conversation.

Three to four national championships, pretty much.

Absolutely. I too think the 2015 team was Saban's best, despite the loss to Ole Miss. And in addition to your reasons for thinking the 2015 team was best, I'll add 1 more...

By all the top ranking systems, Alabama had the toughest schedule in that nation in 2015; Billingsley rates it the toughest schedule of all-time. According to a survey that ranked the top 150 national champions over the years, College Football News had the 2015 team at #3; 2015 Bama was the only national championship team to have 12 Quality wins (LINK below).

This is very interesting, thank you for sharing! I will definitely include this in the article.

2015 Bama is almost underrated on every list, so this was good to see.

In all the hypothetical matches of different teams of different years playing each other, I always pick 2015 Bama. Whether it’s about a game versus 2018 Clemson, 2013 FSU, it doesn’t matter.

I loved that team but could they win a shootout if they had to? How would they have fared against 2018 Clemson or 2019 LSU? 2015 had the firepower in-store if needed. 2015 faced and beat some top QBs, including Deshaun Watson.

Not only was '15 deep top to bottom talent wise, but the coaching staff was incredible.

Look at who all was on staff:

HC - Nick Saban
OC - Lane Kiffin
RB - Burtom Burns
O-Line - Mario Cristobal
WR - Bill Napier
DC - Kirby Smart
Outside LBer - Tosh Lupoi
DB - Mel Tucker
S&C - Scott Cochran

The 2015 team played one tough arse schedule. I think we played 10 of the final AP top 30 and went 9-1.

2011 was the best

I think 2012 was Saban's best all-around team. 2012 had one of the most efficient offenses in Alabama history (great QB, 2 elite RB's, a deep and talented WR group and the best OL in program history) as well as the #1 Defense is multiple categories. And, to top it off, our starting kicker made every single one of his kicks.

What's amazing is that heading into the season, the OL was really the only sure thing. The defense was gutted by losses to the NFL and graduation, AJ had yet to take the next step (although we saw flashes in the rematch against LSU), and we lost Trent Richardson as well as our top 4 pass catchers. It took a Heisman trophy winner and us being asleep in the 1st quarter from the previous week's slugfest against LSU just for us to lose 1 game. If we didn't jump offsides on that punt, there's no doubt in my mind that AJ would've driven us down the field to win the game in the final minute.

Maybe I could make the article about 2012 vs 2015, laying it all out and letting readers decide who’s better.

I still like 2015 as being a little better because the depth and strength of the defense, especially up front. And I think 2015 Clemson is better than anyone 2012 Bama team played.

In the end though, all of these teams created special memories that are each unique. 2012 was a fun year.

Like 2012 over 2015 simply because of how efficient our offense AND defense were that year. AJ McCarron ran that '12 offense to perfection and had one of the best single seasons for a QB in our school's history. We had a QB throw for almost 3,000 yards, two RBs that ran for over 1,000 yards, and a WR who went over 1,000 receiving yards.

That defense was also a thing of beauty as well. They finished #1 in total defense, rushing defense, and scoring defense that year. The team as a whole struggled in only three games all year (LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia) and absolutely dominated everyone else.

That was a great football team.

Look at the final scores of the 2011 season. One close game that we got screwed in. We played that team again and hammered them. That D was ridiculous. Put Upshaw and Hightower on the 2019 team and it's a wrap.
