Why aren't there more former players in the XFL?

I know Bama puts a lot of guys into the NFL, so there isn't a ton left to go to these smaller leagues, but I only saw 2 guys on XFL rosters (Sylve and S. Smith)

Evidently Auburn is a feeder for the XFL. It seemed like there was at least 2-3 guys on each roster.
Should be a surefire recruiting pitch.

To each his own vice. But why the XFL? How many times do we have to see these leagues fail? Living near B'ham growing up I've been in on all this non-NFL stuff. Can anyone say B'ham Americans/Vulcans/Stallions? I even remember a semi-pro team I went to watch a few times in Legion Field, just can't think of their name.

All I see these days is empty NFL stadiums throughout the season. The XFL now gets to compete with all the distractions that other major sports aren't handling that well. Now, more than ever too many shiny things to get our attention. Have I mentioned I love my 4K TV?

Honestly how worth is it to risk current and future injury and likely work over 40 hours just to make like 50,000 a year? Only for the league to go under after a year. Guys that graduated could probably make close to that with way easier jobs

Sucks how you can be in the top 95% of football players in the world but have essentially one viable employer.

I really don't like the NFL, so I hope the XFL delivers. The NFL just really sucks IMO. I hate the pushed "parity", the way things in general work etc*. It's hardly football to me. It's hard to describe, but for me it's fake and plastic. It's like the way Nascar failed because they left the racing and went to entertainment/show/drama.

But I think more likely is the opposite and the XFL ends up just being a worse version of the NFL. Still going to hope and wait.

*but please bring the lineman can't be more than a yard downfield to college football.

Ikr. Football is FINE in this country. We have two leagues, one with the premier talent catering to the cities and one with the future, catering to the rest of us. We're good.

Honestly, just going on Birmingham alone, their new Soccer team seems to be more supported, running way smoother and more in it for the long haul than any pro-football attempt.

I hope you're being sarcastic.

I think there was a time when a market for a spring/summer pro football league in non-NFL cities existed, but the USFL had the one shot to make it work and fricked it up. The NFL has done with the combine and draft coverage what Rivals and 247 have done to college football with recruiting coverage. There is no longer a true offseason for the fans. You can get your fix 365 days a year now, and with it being so much easier to view games on TV or through a streaming service these days all those people in those non-NFL cities who are interested in pro football have a team they are a fan of.

I don’t see how an 8-team league will last.

When I was a kid me and my dad went to all of the Birmingham Stallion home games with Dr. Lemak. I had a helmet from Joe Cribbs, a Joey Jones jersey, and all kinds of Stallions gear. I wish I knew where that stuff was.....
