I do miss running the ball and having RBs actually break runs every now and then. I hated the air raid days of Bryce Young and whatever we gained from that era...cost so much more in terms of maintaining a culture of physicality

The man had his battles with addiction, and was blamed for injuries (probably unfairly), but BAMA has been soft since they hired Ballou sans 2020 season.
I have asked repeatedly if Cochran had a protege we could hire since Cochran is probably blackballed at Alabama.

Jordan Jefferson cried when he found out he could return to Bama only to start the season getting absolutely wrecked. 4 missed tackles and schlackeddddd

All the fanboys of bright, shiny things won't admit it but the day we joined the shotgun spread fad we became the very thing we used to ridicule and laugh at.
Running offense/defense is as much about attitude as it is offensive philosophy. Iron sharpens iron. A tough, hard-nosed running attack in practice makes your defense tougher. Admit it, how many times in the last 10 years when the opponent had 3rd and 2 were you confident our D was going to bow their necks and whip the OL's arse? Not very many.
Yesterday was a perfect example. That opening drive was a thing of beauty. QB under center the first 2 snaps. We even had a power run on 3rd and 5 for a first. Just throwback Alabama football.
But, it was quickly apparent that wasn't an attitudinal change. We were merely running like that to "break tendencies" or "set up something for later". It had nothing to do with imposing our will on the opposing defense.

It didn’t help that our star running back was out. Not sure how much he would have helped us because of the offensive line but Jam is a stud back. The other guys are back ups for a reason.

And Harbaugh did not. Guess who won that game...
And look at Harbaugh's record before he started stealing signs and his record after. There's a reason he went from "Probably should be fired but he's one of our own so we'll let him take a pay cut and keep him at least one more season" to being in the playoff three straight years.

Back to 2015? Quite a few.

Nothing was gained from that era. That’s when the program turned soft. It actually started with changing the offense with Tua, but there were still enough remnants of the hard nosed program still around to cover it up
