When Saban was speaking about the QBs this week he said about Jalen Milroe (paraphrasing) "we can feel like we can win with Jalen at QB, he does some things well". About Ty Simpson he said (paraphrasing) "Ty is a true freshman, he's talented, but he's developmental right now". I figured then that we wouldn't see Ty unless Milroe got hurt.

I mean, Tua definitely had higher upside but he also had a penchant for making the losing play. Despite playing a decent amount all season he still came close to making catastrophic plays in the UGA game. He threw an interception on what was supposed to be a run play. He took an enormous sack in overtime. Those were the things keeping him on the bench. Yea he was explosive but for most of 2017 that team didn’t need that. It needed a manager.

No way Bryce doesn't play. I think we were on the verge of seeing him last night

Is Nick going to redshirt Simpson?
From what i saw in the spring game
he won it.

I was standing right behind Bryce during warmups. But again the injury requires doing nothing that way when he comes back for UT he doesn’t re injure himself.

If Bryce were to get smacked again on that shoulder, we could find ourselves back to Milroe.

Hopefully that doesn't happen. Nick and his new OC can attempt to resolve the QB situation this spring.

I think Ty Simpson has more potential as a QB, and his attributes are closer to those of Bryce. Not as much top end speed as Jalen Milroe, but quicker and more elusive in the pocket, with a good arm. Having said that, you need to watch the spring game again, Milroe played the best in that game (even better than Bryce). Spring games don't mean squat, though. There are just too many variables to be a fair comparison to normal season competition (facing first team defense vs facing second team defense, limited offense packages used, limited defensive alignments, no hitting the QB etc).

I kept hearing that in 2017 yet he came in and balled out every minute he played and went ham on Georgia for a national title when called upon. Forgive me if I don't think Milroe is our best backup.

But he was not in a sling and he was shaking hands, hugging players, patting shoulders and backs without any hint of an issue.

Anecdotal, but I've had AC sprains from mountain biking, and a lot of the time there are zero noticeable issues until you start rotating the arm over the head(throwing motion) in my experience. I had a hairline fracture where the collarbone connects to the sternum and a pretty bad AC sprain at the same time and normal tasks were fine after a couple of days, and wouldn't notice it too bad until picking something up or an explosive type movement.

I agree. If BOB can game plan to Jalens strengths we can have a solid offense.

I watched some more of the game. Jalen just needs more developement. 6 days may not be enough to be really good, but I do believe we can win with him.
Bob needs to create a solid gameplan for him.

I wonder how much keeping Milroe in the fold going forward has to do with it? If he gets passed up by Ty during this year then we all know Jalen probably transfers before next season, then your backup is likely a True Freshman. Even if Jalen doesn’t end up as our starting QB ever again after this week I know Saban would like to use his athleticism somewhere else on the field.

I also think that Saban doesn’t believe Ty gives us enough of an upgrade over Jalen to make a move worth it currently, because we could have lost that game and control over our own destiny in the division. So the calculus is basically “the short term gain we might get from Ty isn’t worth the long term issues it could cause by jumping the gun”.

A simple explanation would be if Ty were just not doing well in practice, but I haven’t found that to be the case from anything I’ve read or heard.

I do think if this is secretly a longer term issue with Bryce we see both QBs if Jalen can’t move the ball and/or keeps turning the ball over in future games

To me, you got it. That is the biggest problem with our coaching staff. We do not have a quarterback anywhere near ready to play college football. And it probably wouldnt help that much, but in the early season games against Vandy and the directional schools, when we put the reserve QBs in the game, all Saban lets him do is hand the ball off. Run it straight up the middle. And dont blame that on BOB. That is all Saban. And the offense is all Saban's, too. I dont have a problem with the offense, but its what Saban wants. And it does helps to recruit QBs and receivers. Gmac did say that based on information he received Friday, he would be shocked if BY doesnt start vs TN.

I know know how many times people have to hear this to understand that Bryce could’ve played last week.

He didn't even throw a pass in warmups. If he was able, they would have played him.
