What is the best way to counter if our OL struggles?

I think this is the most vital unit match-up in the game: our OL versus their DL.
If we struggle against them the same way we did against Mississippi State, what’s the best way to counter?
My next question is, is how do most of you see this particular match-up going? I know we did just fine last year, but this is a different year with different teams.

We did well against them last year in the Sugar Bowl.
I don’t see any struggles.

State DL put it on us but the reason we stalled on offense was playing an obvious hobbled up Tua. Healthy Tua still shreds elite defenses. If he remains healthy all night I have no worries about scoring points. To me, the real matchup is whether their guys can handle our DL.

I am not worried too much about Clemson getting to Tua with their front four. They are good and will have their moments. However, the main key IMO will be how Locks and Tua handle the blitz. Venables likes to blitz, so we need to have a plan for handling that.

Pop passes, sweeps, screens, etc...anything to take advantage of their aggressiveness and get them running side to side for a couple of quarters.

I was just about to post this in a new topic.
Ive re-watched last years game twice and concentrated on our o-line play.
Surprisingly was how well Cotton played head up on wilks from the RG position.
Also Ross Pierschbacher did a very good job on Lawrence.
Womack was very good on # 7 in run block but naturally had his hands full in pass protecting.
Johna had his moments with 99, pass blocking wise, but was good on the run.
You would think pulling your guards would not be wise against Clemson based on there D-line ability.
But we were not hesitant in doing so and were effective.
We did not throw for good yardage in this game but that was mainly on jalen for the most part.
D.harris was most effective slashing thru lanes than BO Scar was with power.
This years o-line is much better and cotton wont have Lawrence in front of him.
This years O-line should do better with the running depth of D.harris, jacob, N.Harris rather,
than the power of Bo Scar in relief of D.harris combined with Tua/WR core.
We are gonna be the balance team we have been all year and I think the o-line is up for then task.
Because we are a better o-line than last year and battle tested because of games against a Miss state, Texas A&M ,and Uga.

Quick passes. RPO slants. Swing passes to RBs. This should loosen them up.
Start sprinkling in more runs after they get a little confused and/or frustrated. Hopefully the safeties have to start getting in the box and we start hitting them over the top.
This is the game that a great QB can mask your OL. We were getting through on Oklahoma in the second half quite often but Murray was too quick to get the ball out or just simply run away.
To put it simply, the game plan must be built around getting the ball out as fast as possible. Our skill players are great. They need the ball in their hands.

If they can’t cover us in man like Oklahoma could not and have to play soft coverage I figure the slants will be there. If they are leaving LB back to disrupt passing lanes and we can’t handle the front four we don’t deserve to win.

We were playing with a hurt QB against MSU that was trying to do too much.
Clemson is also without a starter on the DL.

I think Clemson will want to take away the slants, After watching the OU game film.
But I think we will see a lot of dual rb formation with jacobs and D.Harris or Najee.
That RB option in the flat will make Clemson choose there poison.
Either don't cover it with one of there LB'er and continue to send both on blitz.
Which is there bread and butter defensive call.
Or they assign a safety which now leaves the other one to deal with Wadddle or judey in the slot.
Thats not even counting Irv on the other LB'er or safety.
So I aspect Clemson to do the same thing we will do and rely on more 4 man and a slot blitz mixed in some.

12 personnel/Pistol/H deep set inside shoulder TE
Crash block toward TE / Pull TE side guard / HB follow guard / Rb counter toward TE then cut back to follow HB.
Those teams that slant the D toward the TE have caused issues. This get the flow toward the TE then 34/8 cutback against that flow and read the hole at back side tackle. Guard kick out and HB lead like from an old I-set.
I would at least try it a couple of times to kill their desire to slant the D-line also keeps LB eyes in the backfield and away from the Slot slant/wheel passing.

Our offense really didn’t play all that well

Pass the football, and get it out quickly. Basically Clemson's exact game plan versus us with Deshaun Watson.

Yeah but I don't put that on the offensive line as much as play calling.

Lots of screens: traditional middle screens to the RB or Irv, bubble screens, WR screens, you name it. Get the ball out quickly into the hands of our playmakers and let them work.
