Alabama Men’s Track and Field No. 2 in Latest Coaches Association Rankings

The Crimson Tide’s latest standing is the highest in program history when it comes to the Men’s USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index

The Alabama men's track and field team earned its highest regular-season ranking in program history this week, coming in at No. 2 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Men's Track & Field Rating Index with 280 points.

Alabama jumped to No. 10 two weeks ago and was fifth last week before moving up to second following a strong showing at the Crimson Tide Invitational over the weekend. Overall the Tide has 18 performances that rank in the top-20 nationally.

Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"We have been getting better and better each week and have been building what is turning out to be a special season for our men's team. I'm proud of the job we've done to this point and the effort that this ranking represents. Now we need to keep working, keep building and carry these performances into the postseason."

For folks who may not venture into the baseball thread, Chadaristic posted this earlier today. It’s relevant to swimming and track and field too.

College Power-Brokers Poised to Turn NCAA Upside Down
quote:

The expansion of scholarships would be a historic move, but it would not impact sports such as football and basketball, known as “head count” sports. They offer full scholarships to a roster of players: 85 in football and 15 in basketball. The concept pertains to sports offering partial scholarships, known as “equivalency” sports, such as baseball, hockey, track and field, and swimming. For example, the NCAA maximum scholarships allowed in baseball is 11.7 for a roster of 35—a figure often criticized by high-level baseball-playing schools from rich conferences that want to spend more. Under the transformation’s plan, a school could conceivably offer 35 full scholarships in the sport.

Lifting the “countable coach” rules would also be unprecedented, as NCAA rules currently restrict the number of coaches by sport.

U.S. International Team Trials: Phoebe Bacon Touches Out Rhyan White in 200 Back, Takes Down U.S. Open Record
quote:

At the 2021 Olympic Trials, Rhyan White and Phoebe Bacon pulled off a significant upset in the women’s 200 backstroke as they finished first and second, respectively, and denied world-record holder Regan Smith the chance to compete in that event at the Tokyo Olympics. Less than one year later, White and Bacon again took the U.S. spots at the World Championships in the 200 back, but it was Bacon turning the tables and snagging the victory by just five hundredths. In the process, the two swimmers became the sixth and seventh-fastest performers in history, respectively.

Alabama’s Rhyan White Earns United States World Championships Team Berth

The Crimson Tide standout took second in the finals of the 200-meter backstroke to earn a place on her third-consecutive major international competition following the Tokyo Olympics and this winter’s short course World Championships

Alabama swimmer Rhyan White earned a spot on the United States' 2022 World Championships team during day two of the USA Swimming International Team Trials in Greensboro, N.C., Wednesday night.

White posted a career-best 2:05.13 to take second just behind Olympic teammate Phoebe Bacon (2:05.08) and more than a half second ahead of current world record holder Regan Smith. White's mark is a new Alabama school record and ranks her third in the world this year.

This marks White's third-consecutive appearance on Team USA for a major international competition. After winning the USA Olympic Team Trials in the 200m backstroke, White took a silver medal as part of Team USA's 400m relay and took fourth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke. At this winter's FINA World Short Course Championships (25-meter course), she won the World 200m backstroke title and took silver in the 200m medley relay.

The 200m backstroke was the first of four events at these trials for White, who will also swim the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 100m butterfly. Morgan Scott took seventh in the consolation final of the women's 100m freestyle earlier in the week and will swim the 50m freestyle later in the week.

Ben Hines, Derek Maas and Kailyn Winter will also compete in Greensboro this week. Hines and Winter will swim the 50-meter freestyles, while Maas will swim the 100-meter breaststroke.
