Alabama Captures 2-1 Win Over Auburn

The Alabama soccer team posted a 2-1 win over Auburn Friday night to remain undefeated in its spring matches. Riley Mattingly Parker and Felicia Knox notched goals for the Crimson Tide at the Auburn Soccer Complex to lead UA in the victory.

A cross from Riley Tanner found the head of Parker inside the box to give Alabama its first goal of the game. Knox would follow with the game winner, taking advantage of a free kick by firing a shot into the back of the net for the victory.

Big win for the ladies!

Alabama Upsets No. 10 Georgia In Exciting 4-3 Victory

The No. 45 Alabama women's tennis team upset No. 10 Georgia Friday in an exciting 4-3 decision at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With both teams tied at 3-3, a late push from Ola Pitak on court two won her the final two games of the night as she took a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory for the team win.

Friday's win was Alabama's first over the Bulldogs since 2015 as well as its first victory against a top-10 team since the Tide captured a 5-2 win over No. 6 Georgia in that 2015 match. UA advances to 15-9 on the season and 5-7 in Southeastern Conference play with the victory. The loss was just the second in conference play and fourth defeat this season for the 10th-ranked Bulldogs as UGA dropped to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in SEC action.

Eliud Kipsang closed out a very good day for the Alabama track and field team with a new collegiate record in the 1,500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday night.

Kipsang closed with an epic kick to go 3:33.74, bettering the previous collegiate mark by nearly a second at Cougar Stadium in Azusa, Calif. He beat pro runner Will Paulson by more than two-tenths of a second and was more than two and a half seconds better than the nearest collegian. At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Mercy Chelangat bettered her own school record with a 15:17.28, which move her into the all-time top 10 in collegiate competition.

Across the country at the Tom Jones Invitational, in Gainesville, Fla., Louis Martinez led the way, clearing the bar at 5.22 meters to win the men's pole vault, a mark that ranks him fifth all-time at UA. Alan de Falchi took second in the men's discus with a season-best mark of 60.57 meters, which ranks him fifth all-time at Alabama. Tarsis Orogot took third in the men's 200 meters, with a 20.39, which ranks him sixth all-time for the Crimson Tide.

(For the Track and Field enthusiasts among us, Bama is hosting the Crimson Tide Invitational this weekend)

Alabama Track and Field’s Eliud Kipsang Named National and Conference Runner of the Week

In a week that saw three men's collegiate records fall, Alabama distance ace Eliud Kipsang's was judged the most impressive by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), after breaking the 1,500-meter record by nearly a second, earning him National Athlete of the Week honors.

Kipsang was also named the Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week by the league office after running 3:33.74 in the 1,500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California last Friday. He finished nearly three seconds faster than the second-fastest collegian in the nation this season.

With his record-breaking run, he now holds the first, sixth and 12th fastest collegian efforts in history when it comes to the 1,500 meters.

The Crimson Tide is slated to return to action at this weekend's Crimson Tide Invitational, April 22-23.

Alabama Track & Field Hosts Crimson Tide Invitational at Sam Bailey Stadium this Weekend

After competing on the road through the first portion of the outdoor season, Alabama track & field is staying home this weekend, hosting the Crimson Tide Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.

The Crimson Tide welcomes a total of 20 teams from nine states, including Southeastern Conference foes Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Of the 20 teams in attendance, seven hail from within the state of Alabama.

Action gets underway Friday at 2 p.m. CT with the women's hammer throw and the field events continue through the triple jump which starts at 9 p.m. CT. Friday's running events begin at 8 p.m. CT and end with the men's 5,000 meters, which starts at 9:35 p.m. CT.

Saturday opens with field events at 9 a.m. CT with the discus and finishes with the shot put which gets underway at 3:55 p.m. CT. Running events open at 1 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relay and close with the 4x400 meter relay at 6:30 p.m.

Admission to the meet is free. Gates will open to spectators one hour prior to the start of the first event.

Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"There's a great homefield advantage when we compete here at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium. The athletes are comfortable, they know the rings, they know the runways and the track, they know how to warmup and they're sleeping in their own beds. Every time we walk out of the stadium at the end of a home meet we're really happy with our performances, setting incredible PRs and accomplishing some really special things. The field is really good this year, there's going to be great competition in every event and we're really looking forward to a great weekend."

Alabama Track and Field Off to Strong Start at Crimson Tide Invitational

The Alabama track and field teams got the 2022 Crimson Tide Invitational off to a great start, winning two events and posting 14 top-10 finishes at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium Friday.

In his first collegiate 1,500-meter race, Hillary Cheruiyot ran away from the pack, posting a stellar 3:38.22, which put him three-plus seconds ahead of his closest competition. His mark catapulted him to second all-time at UA, ahead of the legendary David Kimani and behind teammate Eliud Kipsang who ran the collegiate and school record 3:33.74 last weekend.

In the last women's race of the night, Amaris Tyynismaa raced to the front of the women's 5,000 meters and dominated the field, going 16:04.54 to win by nearly a minute.

With Friday's marks, McKeag is now second and Colantonio Jr. is fourth all-time for the Tide.

School Record Highlights Final Day of Alabama Track and Fields’ Crimson Tide Invite

Senior Isaac Odugbesan used a toss of 20.66 meters to better the school shot put record set in 1980

Alabama track and field's Isaac Odugbesan broke a 42-year-old school record to put an exclamation point on the final day of competition at the 2022 Crimson Tide Invitational, held at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium this weekend.

Odugbesan, a three-time SEC shot put champion, unleased a throw of 20.66 meters on his final attempt of the competition to not only pick up the win but fly past Hreinn Halldorsson's school record of 20.54 meters set in 1980.

On the track, Talaya Lewis (11.36) and Ayla Stanisclaus (11.43) took the top top-two spots in the women's 100 meters, while Christal Mosley and Amara Obi went one-two in the women's 400 meters, going 53.12 and 54.10, respectively. Lewis' time ties her for eighth all time at UA.

Eliud Kipsang ran a huge 1:47.16 in the men's 800 meters to win by more than a second and a half, while Corde Long posted a career-best 50.80 to win the men's 400-meter hurdles by more than a half second. Long's time ranks him ninth all-time at Alabama.

Jekovan Rhetta, Tarsis Orogot, Mason Phillips and Demetrius Jackson combined for a blazing 38.86 to win the men's 4x100-meter relay, making them the second-fastest quartet in school history and the fourth fastest nationally this season.

Overall, Alabama tallied a dozen wins on the meet's final day.

Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"Before the weekend got started, I said that we've always walked away from our home competitions happy with the job we did, and that's especially true today. We had an amazing weekend all over the track and I'm really pleased with the effort by our team and what we were able to accomplish. We've still got a few things to work on over the next few weeks as we head into the championship season, but we're moving in the right direction. I'm super proud of Isaac (Odugbesan) and the way he keeps getting better and better as the season moves on. That throw was huge and puts him squarely in the national conversation. It was also good to take one of our oldest school records off the board. I want to thank everyone who helped put this weekend together. It takes a lot of people and a lot of effort to put on a first-class event like this and we're grateful to our staff, officials, administration and volunteers for all they did."

More Crimson Tide Wins
*Ayla Stanisclaus, Amari Brown, Na'Taja Ballard and Christal Mosley ran a 44.41 to win the 4x100-meter relay, while Mosley, Amara Obi, Brown and Chanice Spicer ran a 3:35.67 to win the women's 4x400-meter relay
*Brown also won the women's 200 meters with a time of 23.20
