Alabama Women Earn At-Large Berth to NCAA Cross Country Championships

A day after the Alabama men earned an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Crimson Tide women garnered an at-large bid on Saturday, marking just the second time in program history that both the men and the women advanced to the national championships in the same year.

This year's national championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla. It will be the men's 21st appearance and the 10th for the women at the national championships.

One of the nation's top teams throughout the regular season, there wasn't much question whether the Tide women would advance as they watched the selection show in their team room Saturday afternoon, but there was definite excitement when "Alabama" was called out for the second year in a row.

XC has gotten better over the past 10 years.
I recall going to an event out at the old University golf course, and Alabama s men's and women's teams didn't do well.

Alabama Swimming and Diving Set for Tennessee Invitational

School record in 200 individual medley for derek maas would get him a scoring swim at NCAAs with that 1:43.13. Women also broke our 200 free relay and 400 medley relay records. Team is swimming phenomenally well through day 1. I presume they're on a mini taper (light reduction in training yardage to clear lactic acid build-up), given where we are in the season.

On cue from RollTide.com:

Alabama Swimming and Diving Breaks Three School Records on Day One of Tennessee Invitational

The Crimson Tide women bettered the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay marks while Derek Maas shaved more than a half second off the school 200 individual medley standard

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama Swimming and Diving got the Tennessee Invitational off to a huge start Thursday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn., throwing down a number of performances that rank in the Crimson Tide's all-time top 10, including a trio of school records.

The Alabama women opened and closed Thursday's finals by crushing the school 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays. Kalia Antoniou, Morgan Scott, Kailyn Winter and Cora Dupre got things started by going 1:26.38 to set a new standard in the 200 freestyle relay, bettering the old mark by more than half a second, and taking first overall.

Rhyan White, Avery Wiseman, Scott and Antoniou came back to close the first day of competition by decimating the 400 medley relay record, going 3:27.18, dropping the old mark by more than a second and a half, and taking second by a fraction of a second. White led off the relay with by going 50.15 in the 100 backstroke, just off her school record.

Derek Maas got the record smashing underway in prelims, shaving more than half a second off the 200 individual medley mark with a 1:43.13. He came back in finals to win the race with a 1:43.49.

Figured you'd be along with the more complete write up since she's a local girl for me, and not in the longer write up... kensey mcmahon had a great 500 free too. She would've placed 4th at NCAAs last year. Just a really strong first day.

Edit: looked through the full results now. UVA is there, defending ncaa champs on the women's side. Our girls beat them in 1 relay, 0.06 behind in the other. That's incredibly impressive.

Kensey is listed in the bullet points of the complete Day 1 write up (I just posted the paragraphs from the top part):
quote:

Kensey McMahon opened the individual events by winning in the women's 500 freestyle with a quick 4:38.76, just tenth of a second off her school record

So happy to see the team off to a good start!
