to track when you attend games and how long you stay.

al.com

quote:

The university, through an app designed by FanMaker that will be available to download Thursday, will use geo-fencing — a location-based service that activates in a defined perimeter — to monitor the whereabouts of those who participate in the Tide Loyalty Points program, which was an initiative unveiled this spring to encourage undergraduates and those seeking advanced degrees to stay for the duration of the Crimson Tide’s home football games.

The app, which is also called, “Tide Loyalty Points,” was created by a company that, according to its website, has teamed up with six other Power Five schools, including USC, Clemson and Mississippi State.

...students who don’t make an early exit will earn credit “for their support in the 4th quarter. Those points will contribute to students’ priority access to regular and postseason tickets.” Per a university news release issued Wednesday, points will be also awarded for credit hours accumulated and “priority access to regular season and postseason tickets will be determined by total points earned over the course of each student’s enrollment.”

As long as it is an opt in thing, cool. Good fans should have better access to post season tickets. They should add in every other sport too though. Good fan doesn't stop at 1 sport, and bonus points for showing up at away games should also be a thing.

Agree - I much prefer the "reward" system over some sort of punishment system. It's completely fair to give kids who come to all the games and stay more priority for tickets to bigger games with higher demand.

I don't know how you could argue against that.

Yep. I don't know how you can argue against this and I also don't know why it's taken so long. Hopefully we will soon implement this to all sports to leverage the success and popularity of football to increase attendance for sports across the board. Post season tickets should be given to those that support all Bama athletics, not just a 7th year senior who hasn't left yet.

Took long enough for them to do something like this. We've been talking about it for at least damn near 15 years.

Coming soon to a football game in BDS,
A pledge carrying 40 phones back to the frat house at the end of the game.

I might open up a business where I will meet students at halftime of a game, collect their phones, and agree to meet on the strip later that night for a small fee.

Like those college students can go that long without their phone.

I'll support this action when they do it for the entire stadium. Just as many regular fans leave early as students do.

You could probably get a second old smart phone for cheap and use the campus wifi without needing to add it to your phone plan. Wouldn't really matter if it got lost and it's easily replaceable.

The rest of the stadium pays a donation for their priority.

Exactly, so this is all about money and not attendance.

This is the University of Alabama. Money is the only thing they care about.

Yeah, all students get a free beer in the 4th quarter. That would work.

pffftttt. Some folks will argue about free cold beer

LOL. I was actually thinking about pvilleguru when I posted that, and yep, he's already complaining.

Dang man. Don't worry. Be happy.

I dont know about away genes and all, may not ben financially feasible for many students to make that kind of trip often.

But definitely a very good idea.
