#6 overall player. We were in his top ten, but did not make the cut when he went down to five. Gonzaga is the heavy favorite.

Adding Burnett would be SAUCY

My man realized his mistake in not coming to play for Oats the first go around.

247 scouting report:
quote:
A big-bodied guard who excels both on and off the ball. When he plays on the ball, he uses his frame with great length to overpower defenders and get to into the lane. Once there, Burnett shows solid floor vision and is good at finding shooters. When he plays off the ball, Burnett makes himself into a scorer who can get buckets by both attacking the basket and from deep. While he is a better athlete than most expect at first blush, he does need to continue to get into better shape - which should help all aspects of his game.

That one would be a surprise to me, but I would like it. I assumed he would want to go somewhere he can start and get a ton of minutes right away.

Hopefully he's JQ 2.0 and his poor performance at TTU was largely a product of being uncomfortable in the program rather than him just not being as good as advertised.

TT was a really weird fit for him based off of everything that he ever said as a recruit.

Maybe it's finally Bediako time?
Nope, not yet. The announcement was Enoch Boakye committing to Arizona State.

Yeah I know. A big reason we thought we had a good shot at him was the fact that he kept insisting that he wanted to go somewhere that plays an up tempo, free flowing style of basketball. Then he signs with one of the slowest paced, most methodical programs in the country.

There are a few things that just jumps out about Burnett's stat line at Texas Tech.
1) His shooting numbers from the field and the 3 point line were pretty terrible. 28% from the field, 17% from 3. But he shot 88.9% from the line on 3 attempts per game.
He was 32-36 from the line which isn't a statistically insignificant amount. If you can shoot 88.9% from the line I just don't buy that you'll continue to be a poor shooter from everywhere else.
2) He somehow averaged 1.4 steals a game in 17 minutes a game. Which frankly almost seems like a misprint.

Levi Randolph got significantly better at shooting during his time here . Burnett may be a great shooter, just has to adjust to college game

To me the best Alabama example of the "if you're a good FT shooter you can eventually turn into a good shooter" phenomenon is Trevor Releford.
Always a good free throw shooter, but he was 27% from 3 his first two seasons and 40% from 3 his last two years.

He has elite on the ball defensive potential.
I'm not very worried about his shooting numbers from this year tbh. He was known to be a guy that can score at the rim and as a deep shooter before he stepped foot on TT's campus.
There is a reason that he was a primary recruit for Oats and why the G League team made him an offer. He's a talented kid with a lot of potential. Would be a great fit for us imho.

Same - JQ had awful shooting numbers at Nova.

He got 6 steals in one game last year where he only played about 15 minutes. Also got 3 blocks in a game he played limited minutes. Has potential to be an elite defender.

I’d be pumped if we could land him. I was pretty disappointed when we missed on him the first go around.

The fact that he's already proven to be an elite defender with elite defender physical makeup is really encouraging. We all know he has raw offensive skills. If a kid has tools and work ethic I don't have much worry about this staff making him into a ballplayer.
It feels damn good to be able to say that

Right now it looks like there's a good chance we have former 5* recruits JD Davison, Jahvon Quinerly, Josh Primo, Charles Bediako, and Nimari Burnett on the roster next year. And they could potentially all be on the court at the same time given the way we play.
Most talented roster since....ever?
