I mean yeah maybe, but they wanted him to reclassify and sign last year.
Which was before we ever had Bruner or Tchikou, right? So maybe Tchikou kind of changed the thinking long term. Again i'm as surprised as you are at how this transpired - especially the timing of it. Seems odd, but hopefully the staff has a good pivot plan already in place.

We already have Ambrose as a project Big who should be really good here soon

That's a good point too.
What they've seen from KAH + having Tchikou along with Rojas and Gary may have changed how important Bediako was to the staff.

Tchikou definitely. I don't know about Bruner though.

Yeah I mean we can debate a recruit's merits and potential value to the program all day long, but the timing of this is the part that is really difficult to make sense of. I mean you had all the 247 national guys put in extremely high confidence picks for Alabama back in October all around the same time. We knew what our roster situation was looking like for next season back in October, and obviously things were still going just fine on the recruiting front. So I'm just trying to think of what could have changed over the last 60-90 days to cause one or both parties to walk away.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into the origin of a bad internet rumor, but maybe someone around the kid asked for some things that Oats/staff aren't interested in providing.

All we need to do now is find a good big on a bad team who wants to transfer to a top 10 team.
Preferably one that can shoot 35% from three.
I bet there will be a lot more transfers than normal after this season since you are immediately eligible now.

Yeah I'm thinking either someone gave TW bad info, this was floated as a face saving measure on a botched recruitment, or some kind of shenanigans are afoot. Even "maybe the staff likes what they see out of KAH, Gary, and Rojas" doesn't make a ton of sense to me because they're all wings/stretch 4s. Bediako is pretty much a pure 5. I guess the staff could have ultimately decided that it wasn't worth using a scholarship on a player who has fairly limited positional versatility, but again that just seems like something that could and would have been decided long before this stage of the recruiting cycle.

This is what was told to me on Twitter. He can’t shoot and I don’t think the staff wanted to take on another project with a couple already on roster. They want a big who can shoot and play right away because next years team is gonna be really really solid.
It’s probably a mutual agreement

Maybe Bruner is showing interest in coming back with the additional year of eligibility?
Posted on 2/2/21 at 3:36 pm to Brodeur
Maybe. He doesn’t count against the scholarship limit if he does. So maybe he staff wants to add more Guards.
Also don’t forget in addition to Tchikou, Ambrose, and Rojas we also have 6’10 Langston Wilson coming in.

I wish but I doubt it. He almost went pro after last year and probably would have if they hadn't canceled the in person combine due to covid.

So the Roster next year is looking like this so far...
1. JD Davison
2. Jusuan Holt
3. Langston Wilson
4. Jahvon Quinerly
5. Josh Primo
6. Keon Ellis
7. Keon Ambrose
8. James Rojas
9. Darius Miles
10.Alex Tchikou
11.Juwan Gary
12 Jaden Shackleford
13. Open
My perfect scenario would be add Wes Cardet and a GT Big. Then have someone transfer

That’s a young but talented team.

He wanted to, but from what I've seen, I doubt he would have been drafted. I didn't follow him at Yale, obviously, but just going by what he's put on tape vs SEC competition, he's going to have to really come on strong when he returns to have any shot at the NBA. If he wants to play overseas, then yeah, he's gone.

Alex Tchikou fits the mold for a perfect big for this system. Athletic, good shooter, runs the floor well, good on defense. I am excited to watch him next season, I thought he was really under ranked as the 60th prospect in the class last year.
highlights
Not sure how much Tchikou will be able to do in the offseason since an Achilles usually takes close to a year to fully heal from. We need a good transfer to bridge the gap from Bruner to Tchikou most likely, assuming Tchikou won't be able to do a ton in the offseason.

I haven’t seen him in any of this years Mock Drafts. He is #13 overall in the 2022 Mock Draft. He may declare and go through the process but I expect him to hang around another year

I think the staff will use Kira as an example to get him to come back. Kira wasn't very high in the mocks after his Freshman season, came back as a Sophomore then went as a lottery pick. Primo can do the same thing if he comes back.

He started out in the mocks, then fell out and appears to slowly be creeping back into some of them.
Like i've said before, hopefully Oats sells him on being a 2022 lottery pick along with JD Davison and we keep him in town for one more year.
