Bediako is pretty raw, but he is progressing fast, he got a lot better in the last year. I think by the time he is a JR. he is gonna be a dominant player. May be by the time he is a Sophomore.

He should be pretty dang good even as a Freshman.

I think he has a ton of potential. I just think Meyer's opinion of him is that his basketball skills/athleticism are too limited for him to ever be a star. I disagree with that assessment.

Wesley Cardet ended 2020 on a high note, as a champion, as he led his team to the title of the Beach Ball Winter Classic, in a win over top 25 ranked Combine Academy in the championship game. Cardet himself had a standout performance as the senior was able to showcase his full skill set.

“For this tournament, our coach implemented a drive and kick system similar to Villanova. I felt good going in because of the new system and we just got Justin Neely back. As for me, I think I played well, I shot 66 percent for three and averaged six assists per game, playing good defense.”

The four-star prospect is far from an unknown player, as he claims 20-plus offers while playing for nationally ranked West Oaks Academy, however he feels like his game is misunderstood.

“I think there is a misconception of my game. Most media outlets have me listed as a small forward; I have never played small forward in my life.” Cardet went on to talk about his game, “My offensive versatility and ability to guard smaller guards set me apart from players in my class. My sophomore year I played the point, in 11th grade I played a combo guard. I have experience playing both positions.”

One thing you notice off the bat with Cardet is his physical traits, he carries a strong frame with great length which really helps him on both ends of the floor.

“I am 6-6 and 205 pounds with a 6-11 wingspan. Defensively I come into games looking to take out the other teams point guard. Offensively, I have been compared to Shai, defensively I like to play like Jimmy Butler.”

Right now, Cardet is in the middle of his season, and focused on winning a Grind Session championship as well as a state title, however he knows his recruitment is going to be coming to a head soon, and he knows what he is looking for at the next level.

“I am looking for a school who is going to allow me to play the combo. Some of the schools that are recruiting me say they want me to play the one or the two. I am shying away from any school who wants me to play the wing.”

Looking toward a commitment, Cardet is not looking to bring a lot of attention to things.

“I won’t narrow it down, but I will decide after the season. There are too many moving parts to make that decision early.”

As for which programs he is talking with, there is a list he communicates with regularly, Alabama, DePaul, FAMU, Howard, Iona, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas State, Maryland, St John’s, Samford and Rutgers.

“All the schools I communicate with have offered me, there are no new ones,” Cardet continued, “My parents went to an HBCU (FAMU), but my decision is going to come down to how the schools plan to use me.”

And these schools will not be able to slip anything by Cardet, while he is focusing on the season, he also has one eye on his list of schools.

“I am watching very closely all the schools who have offered me.”

RIVALS REACTION

Cardet has a unique way about him to be comfortable on or off the ball. He has excellent floor vision with the ability to get into the paint, play off two feet and make the right read. His jump shot is smooth off the catch, his frame is college ready and the young man bleeds winning. While he mentioned the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jimmy Butler, watching him you can conjure of some shades of Malcom Brogden at a similar stage.

Yeah we've got the best shot out of this list. Granted those are just the ones he says communicates with him regularly, but I'd still say we have the best shot.

Other than maybe Illinois, none of the other teams are even close to the level we are this year.

And everything else he said also sounds very promising from his style of play and the position he wants to play.

A guy that is 6'6" with a 6'11" wingspan being able to guard the other teams PG would be fantastic with Herb being gone after this season.

ETA: 6'6" 205 (with athleticism to guard what is typically the quickest, shiftiest players) is an incredible frame for a high school senior.

Collin Sexton Interview at 42:30

Sexton talks about the nickname Sexland and Collin Sexton discussed on the "Lowe Post Podcast" Kevin Love's mentorship, his rookie season in Cleveland, his pre-draft workout with Cleveland (that happened right after the Cavs got swept), his nickname Young Bull, the 3 vs 5 game, rookie hazing (Thompson "popcorned" his car), and more.

2021 C Charles Bediako had another double-double today with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in another IMG victory. He averaged 15 PPG, 12 RPG, and 2.5 BPG for the weekend.

Congrats to senior Jusaun Holt on passing over the 200 milestone for career assists and the 100 milestone for career steals. He’s having an outstanding senior season and finishing off a great high school career.

Michigan fans seem to think they have a good shot at getting Bediako, but with them having Moussa Diabate already signed, who plays the same position as Bediako and is ranked higher, I don't see it.

2022 5 star Jalen Washington of @GWSBoysBball has been in contact with the following programs this week:

Michigan
Purdue
Michigan State
Stanford
Alabama

The skilled Forward is an excellent perimeter shooter and true inside/outside matchup nightmare at 6’9 with a 7’2 wingspan.

Sounds like no Bediako for us. Guess we will have to go to transfer portal for a Big or Hope Bruner comes back.

Just saw that.

Seems like there is some concern from him and from us as well.

He is a great Defender, Shot Blocker, and rebounder but he can’t shoot right now.

With the roster we would have next year if we could find a big that could shoot we could be Final 4 good.

I mean if Watts is reporting it there has to be some truth to it, but that honestly just makes no sense to me at all. How do you recruit a kid so hard for that long and then decide he's a bad fit at the 11th hour?

Yeah, I don't know.

Maybe he didn't improve as much as the staff anticipated? Seems odd nonetheless.

Or maybe we just can't win this recruiting battle and this is a way to save a little face? Really not sure tbh just grasping at straws.

Def need to close with Cardet though.

Bediako is more of a project, as I said by the time he is a jr he should be a really good player.

I dont mind going to the portal and getting a big, we will have really good guards next year, a good experienced big from the portal we could be in the top 10 again next year.

Now it doesn't have to be a grad transfer to be eligible either, a sophomore or Jr. big can transfer here and be eligible immediately.

I wanted Bediako but for the short term this may be the better move. Otherwise we would have two bigs next year who had never played any college basketball.

I mean yeah maybe, but they wanted him to reclassify and sign last year.
