Nimari Burnett is in the transfer portal. Chicago native. Illinois had been in the mix during his recruitment.
Burnett and current freshman Coleman Hawkins were high school teammates at Prolific Prep in California.

The following programs reached out to Burnett, he told Stockrisers.com:
Oregon, San Diego State, Colorado State, Illinois, Vandy, South Carolina, Alabama, Dayton, Mizzou, Arizona State, Maryland, Wake Forest, DePaul, USC, and Marquette.
Prior to his commitment to the Red Raiders, the heaviest programs involved were Alabama, Michigan, and Oregon. He took all of his official visits but ultimately chose Lubbock. But as he has entered the portal, two of those programs (Bama and Oregon), have already reached out to Burnett which is something worth noting.
On another note, Burnett attended Morgan Park (IL) prior to his high school transfer to Prolific Prep. Illinois is considered home to him and the Fighting Illini’ have also reached out to Nimari Burnett as he has entered the transfer portal.
He currently has no timeline for a commitment and will let the process play out as the first 24 hours in the transfer portal approach for him.

Alabama showing interest in former Top50 combo guard
Anybody with 247 that can let us know if there is anything else of note in there?

Our post injuries might lead a certain Canadian recruit to feel as though he might get quick pt.

Speaking of Bediako, has anyone seen his highlights lately? He looks more polished and has gotten bigger.
Feel pretty confident that he's ours.

Yet they were not a true contender for his signature the first go-round. I think all we have to worry about is Oregon at this point, but I feel pretty confident that we have to be considered the favorite at this point. Only deterrent would be if he was dead set on playing PG. With both Quinerly and Davison that would be a tough thing to sell him. But then again Texas Tech fooled him into thinking they were a good fit for his desire to play in an up tempo offense...

The good thing is Oats wouldn't hesitate to run a lineup out there that included all three of them as long as they also took care of business on the defensive end.
Burnett wouldn't be the true PG, but he could definitely still play some PG. I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but i'd pretty dang happy if we got him.

Contending schools for Nimari Burnett?
quote:
Nimari Burnett, a 6-4 guard who is originally from Chicago, has left Texas Tech and is in the transfer portal. He came into Texas Tech with high expectations as the No. 34 ranked prospect in the 247Sports Composite. Even though it did not workout at Texas Tech, a plethora of schools have contacted Burnett.
It is early in the process and more schools will likely jump in the mix, but three schools I would keep an eye on are Alabama, Illinois and Oregon.
Alabama and Oregon were right there till the end in Burnett’s original recruitment. And Illinois has the advantage of being a local school for Burnett.
I’m not in a position to make a prediction for Burnett, but I like the chances of one of these three schools.
Here is a scouting report on Nimari Burnett from National Analyst Brian Snow:
A big-bodied guard who excels both on and off the ball. When he plays on the ball, he uses his frame with great length to overpower defenders and get to into the lane. Once there, Burnett shows solid floor vision and is good at finding shooters. When he plays off the ball, Burnett makes himself into a scorer who can get buckets by both attacking the basket and from deep. While he is a better athlete than most expect at first blush, he does need to continue to get into better shape - which should help all aspects of his game.

Where do you think Charles Bediako ends up?
quote:
I am in the group of six analysts who have predicted Alabama in the Crystal Ball for Charles Bediako. Many of those predictions have a high confidence rating as well.
Now if Alabama does indeed land Bediako, the 2021 Tide recruiting class would catapult from No. 17 to No. 3 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings as they currently stand according the the Class Calculator.
Ranked No. 25 in the 247Sports Composite, Bediako would help make a formidable duo with elite five-star point guard JD Davison if Alabama successfully lands Bediako.
Here is my scouting report on Bediako:
At 6-11 has a big wingspan. Needs to gain mass and strength and has a frame to do so. Limited athlete and not a leaper. Has good hands. Often has to take an extra step on pivot to gather himself. Has nice touch on his jump hook. Effective around rim but needs to expand skill set. Positional defender and rebounder. Solid big man with potential to improve skill level.

If we are going to bring in Bediako and Burnett who ends up transferring to make room?
Posted on 1/14/21 at 1:59 pm to Robot Santa
My opinion probably Gary
Posted on 1/14/21 at 2:14 pm to mistaken4193
Yeah, Gary probably makes the most sense.
I don't see us giving up on KAH or Miles this early.
Only other real option would be Rojas, but he's an Oats guy whereas Gary really isn't.

Can somebody fill me in on the transfer rules for basketball? Are they the same as football this year with no penalty or sitting out? Basically how soon could Burnett play if he comes to Bama?

Yes. He technically could play this season but we don’t have any room right now.

Is this true? I was under the impression that he would be able to play next season, but not this season.

UA may be dipping into the Transfer Portal for another elite prospect in Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett.
The former four-star combo guard in the class of 2020 heavily considered Alabama during the recruiting process before opting for the Red Raiders.
The Tide is showing interest once again, Burnett tells BamaOnLine. He's set to soon have a phone call with the staff, and he maintains the interest is mutual.
"The system intrigues me, as well as the coaching staff," Burnett told BOL on Wednesday.
Burnett officially visited Alabama in September of 2019 when he was hosted by Jaden Shackelford. The staff left him with a simple message.
"That I can be a game-changer right away and be able to take the team to the next level to compete for a national championship," Burnett said at the time.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder was rated the No. 6 combo guard and the No. 34 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
In 12 games with the Red Raiders, Burnett was averaging 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game.
Another notable program in the mix that was a part of Burnett's top five is Oregon.
A decision timeline is not yet known.
