We are now ending only the first full week of October and there are only 26 available prospects in the @247Sports Top100.
Had a third wave of commitments this week and could see another wave next week.

I want Langston Wilson cause his story makes it easy to pull for him. It doesn’t hurt that he’s good at basketball and just scratching the surface either
My only trepidation is that we get him on campus and the team doctors won't clear him ala Jared Butler. He reminds me of Donta with a bit more of a face up game though. Getting him and Bediako in the same class would be incredible.

Would it be legal for our medical team to review his records before we actually sign him?
Posted on 10/11/20 at 11:54 am to Chadaristic
I don't see why not, but they'd still have to evaluate him themselves after he enrolls.

I would think with his background being well known, the programs seriously recruiting him have been able to vet that information.

I’ve spoken on this both on the radio and on Twitter but I don’t mind repeating myself again. Nate Oats has fully changed the culture of Alabama basketball. It has been a rising program over the past few years but now it has risen to new heights and it just continued with the pickup of JD Davison who was a priority since Nate Oats took the job and even before that.
Since arriving in Tuscaloosa he’s landed highly-coveted transfers in Jahvon Quinerly and Jordan Bruner, picked up one of JUCO’s top-rated prospects in Keon Ellis, and brought in a talent-packed incoming freshman class that includes five-star and future NBA draft-selection, Joshua Primo.
Now, Tide fans are focused on the dream scenario that they have for their 2021 class and that’s surrounding JD Davison with Charles Bediako, Caleb Houstan, and Langston Wilson. The question here was of the three, how many could Oats land a commitment from. My answer: At least one.
I’ll start with Charles Bediako, he’s down to a final list that includes the Tide, Michigan, Duke, Ohio State, and Texas. If I had to narrow it down I’d see good fits anywhere but the two programs I’m very intrigued with are both Alabama and Ohio State. Bediako’s connections with Keon Ambrose-Hylton and Joshua Primo are one thing but with key departures occurring after this season, I think he’d see instant minutes with the Tide. As for the Buckeyes, they’ve seen him play tons while he was in Ohio and he even took a visit to the campus. Wouldn’t count out Chris Holtmann.
Now, with Caleb Houstan. We saw the final-four of Duke, Virginia, Alabama, and Michigan. The recruitments of Bediako and Houstan are very much similar and could finish with a similar result. Call me crazy but as I said with Bediako, the Tide is one of my current favorites, along with my darkhorse for Houstan which is... Virginia. Many might find that surprising but it really isn’t. Tony Bennett was one of the first to contact him during quarantine and after the reclass. With a likely departure of Sam Hauser, the Cavaliers would get instant-impact minutes for Houstan in one of the country's best conferences, the ACC. Very intriguing option.
Finally, Langston Wilson. The highly-rated junior college forward has tons of programs involved and is yet to cut down to a final list of schools. I find him cutting down to a final list very unlikely at this moment. I think out of the three prospects that Bama fans are eying hard, Wilson is the most likely to give a pledge at this time. They’re emerging as a favorite and Wilson recently told me in an interview that it’s possible he announces his commitment this month. That leaves him two weeks to ‘possibly’ announce. This kid is a super-talented prospect that would find his way into instant minutes if he joins the Tide.

Four-star prospect Jai Smith talks recruitment, reclassification
quote:
I use the term underrated with plenty of prospects, many fit the mold but some are truly just overlooked. Here’s one: Jai Smith. Formerly from Raleigh, North Carolina, Smith has now enrolled at Bull City Prep in Durham after moving from Connecticut where he attended St. Thomas More.
Smith fits the modern-day build that we see all around the game of basketball. Standing at 6-foot-9, he’s a long-athletic and dynamic forward that can run the floor extremely well. My favorite aspect of his game and probably Smith’s as well as his ability to defend and rebound the ball. He’s a hard-nosed prospect with tons of upside.
Smith got on the phone with Stockrisers.com on Sunday night to discuss a slew of things including his recruitment, his game, and a possible reclassification.
Despite being overlooked rankings wise, what is your recruitment looking like?
Smith: “Wake Forest, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Texas A&M, Marquette, Syracuse, Memphis, and many others are involved.”
What about some of your newer interests?
Smith: “Texas Tech, Florida, Louisville, Florida State, Wichita State, NC State, UConn, Oregon, USC, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Boston College, Miami, Clemson, and many others.”
You’re also receiving some blue blood interest, correct?
Smith: “Duke’s Nate James has talked to my coach a little bit, nothing serious. Kansas is a little more serious, they like my overall game a lot.”
Marquette recently offered and talked with you, thoughts on them?
Smith: “Marquette has my City Rocks point-guard [Symir Torrence] and also is looking for a player in my position. They love physical guys that can stretch the floor and that’s me, Coach [Steve] Wojciechowski tells me a lot. Also, they say they would love to have me in their program.”
What about a program like Alabama, thoughts on them?
Smith: “Alabama has a player I would really love to play with and that’s their recent commit, JD Davison. Coach Oats says I have that motor, grit, and toughness it takes to play at Alabama.”
Syracuse, you have ties to the area, they just began making a push. Thoughts on them?
Smith: “With Syracuse, I love Coach Boeheim and what they did with the players they’ve had in their program. In addition, they play a hard 2-3 zone and love tall athletic, and active players like me. My boy Dior [Johnson] is committed and that can play a big part also.”
You’ve built a great relationship with Memphis’ Penny Hardaway, how has that been?
Smith: “It would be really cool having Coach Penny as a coach because he has done what most dream of and knows what it takes to get there. He compares me to Precious [Achiuwa] a lot.”
What campuses have you been able to take a look at virtually?
Smith: “Memphis, Marquette, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Georgia.”
You’re formerly a member of the 2021 class, any chance you reclassify again?
Smith: “Yes. I finished most of my required courses already. But as of right now I’m focused on being a member of the 2022 class.”
As for your skillset, what’s one word to describe you on the court?
Smith: “Dog. I just don’t stop and I play with a high motor.”

Crystal Ball: Alabama to land five-star prospect? (247, Brian Snow, segments)
quote:
The Alabama Crimson Tide are starting to really get things going on the recruiting trail, and I expect the strong momentum to continue... One player that I am anticipating the Crimson Tide land is 247Sports Composite five-star Charles Bediako...
Recently Bediako narrowed his list down to five, and the Crimson Tide face competition within that group, but right now it is becoming very clear that they are the team to beat. Numerous sources have the Crimson Tide way out in front in this recruitment, and I believe that to be the case.
I have entered a high (9) confidence Crystal Ball for Alabama to land Bediako, who is one of the better remaining centers in the class.

I wish Bediako would go ahead and commit. I think an additional five star along with Davison legitimizes this class and would make it easier for Houstan to decide we are the place to be.

Looking for somebody that is going to see his stock soar over the next few months? I present to you Shaedon Sharpe from the class of 2022.
A native of Canada who played his sophomore season at Bel Aire (Kans.) Sunrise Christian, it isn’t as if Sharpe is an unknown. Now at Glendale (Ariz.) Dream City Christian, Sharpe is a four-star prospect who ranks No. 124 in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. At 247Sports, though, the 6-foot-4 wing is currently a three-star who ranks just outside of the top 150.
Sharpe won’t be outside of the national rankings much longer. An elite level athlete who I saw in person several times as a sophomore, Sharpe has raised his game to an entirely new level. I’ve been able to watch recent film of him and he’s turned into a dangerous jump shooter and a much better creator off of the dribble. Alabama, Cincinnati, Creighton, Oregon and Xavier have all offered scholarships and I see Sharpe as a guy who merits consideration for at least the top 50 in 2022.

Yeah if we are so far out front that national guys are practically calling it a lock it makes you wonder what he's waiting on. I guess he may be wanting to see how we use Bruner and Tchikou before completely closing the door on other schools.

This one is actually 10/10/19.
This was way back when there was some speculation that Bediako was considering reclassifying last year to commit to us.

If we get Bediako and Houstan, the team's nickname is officially "Air Canada."

And after we crush them we can sing that SouthPark movie anthem "Blame Canada" instead of Rammer Jammer .

I don't know if the focus on all these Canadian kids is mere coincidence or the result of the staff identifying an emerging recruiting base that hasn't yet become completely dominated by the blue bloods, but it's going to likely pay huge dividends going forward if these kids come in and have a lot of success here. Making some headway in recruiting top talent outside of our traditional 4-5 hours from Tuscaloosa radius has always been the key to building a successful modern college basketball program and unlike their predecessors this staff seems to have figured out a way to get it done.

Think it's definitely by design. Oats and Hodgson being that close to Canada in Buffalo and Michigan certainly saw the potential of Canadian ballers early and went after them hammer and tong. It was just our luck that we hired them at just the right time to harvest these potential stars.
