He's been slacking on the podcast too. I just started driving an hour to and from work. I need entertainment.

JD Davison's 247 page was updated yesterday to include a scouting report from Jerry Meyer.

Scouting Report

Jerry Meyer
DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL SCOUTING

PROJECTION
Round 1
TOP 10

COMPARISON
Russell Westbrook
HOUSTON ROCKETS

Has a good physical build for a point guard. Extremely athletic. Explosive leaper who specializes in getting to the rim and finishing. Also has great body control and is a creative and adept finisher. Also has a reliable jump shot to keep the defense honest. Sees the court well. Finds the diagonal pass. Has the tools to be a high level perimeter defender and rebounder.

So let's say he commits to us on Sunday and actually ends up playing a year of college ball. How does he coexist with JQ?

I assume JD would play off ball in the halfcourt mostly when both are on the floor.

That's what I would think too, but that also seems like kind of an inefficient way to utilize his skill set. Having to find creative ways to get the ball in the hands of multiple elite players is the kind of problem you want to have though.

Agreed and I imagine that combo in transition/fast breaks would be pretty lethal with a couple of shooters and a guy like Tchikou out there.

I think if JQ has a halfway decent year, he's off to the NBA. He was planning on already being there by this point in his career. I don't know if he'll be ready after this season, but I think he's gone if he gets NBA interest.

If he doesn't, I don't think Oats will have any trouble rotating two PG's. Both of them are scorers who can play off the ball. The same goes for Primo, but I'd be surprised to get both of them back next year.

The problem with that is a "halfway decent year" isn't likely to guarantee him going in the first round. With JQ being as undersized as he is, I think it would be wiser for him to stick in college for at least a couple of years.

I'm not saying he should go. I'm saying I think he will, if he has a chance.

JD just tweeted he’s delaying his commitment. Doesn’t have a date set now. Guess someone dropped a bag and now he’s weighing his options smfh

TW nugget (5 hrs ago)
quote:

As we reported earlier in the week UA had made great headway with JD Davison and the entire staff has gone all in on the 5-star in-state guard. Oats is heavily involved, as expected, and Antoine Pettway, per sources, have built a strong relationship with his camp including Davison who is pretty quiet by nature. At this stage, everything seems to be pointing to UA. Also, after talking to sources on the other side of the fence it seems both Auburn and LSU believe Alabama is in the driver's seat.

I'm not going to put in a Crystal Ball pick yet (and I might not). But if I did it would be for Alabama as things stand now. Goes without saying this would be a huge pickup for Oats and the Tide staff. They already have a key piece with Jusaun Holt on board and Davison would give them that high profile lead guard who is not only talented, but someone who other big name prospects could follow to Tuscaloosa, and the Tide is involved with some very heavy hitters. As usual we will keep you posted if we learn more or something changes.
