What a great job by Oats and the rest of the coaching staff. Is it too early to throw that man a raise and extra money for his staff? I’m extremely excited about this. What a roster for year 2. Unreal

I know we did the same thing under Grant and Avery with our excitement but I think it’s legit this time.

Alex Tchikou came off the board on Sunday as the four-star 2020 forward has committed to Alabama, he told 247Sports.

Tchikou, a 6-foot-11, 200-pound athlete from Glendale (Ariz.) Dream City Christian, chose the Crimson Tide over Arizona, Florida State, Illinois, Mississippi State, Oregon, St. John’s, St. Mary's and USC.

The 58th rated prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Tchikou is a physical specimen with a significant upside.

Tchikou reclassified from the 2021 to 2020 class last week.

“I am going to Alabama for three reasons,” Tchikou said. “The first reason is the relationship with coach. Second, the style of play fits me perfectly. Third is they let you play through mistakes there.”

Alabama head coach Nate Oats played a big role in Tchikou’s decision.

“We have a great relationship,” said Tchikou. “My thing with college is I wanted a friendly relationship with the coach, who would have my back and put me in position where I can get to the NBA.”

Tchikou plans on stepping in and helping the program in multiple ways when he arrives in Tuscaloosa.

“I think I bring leadership,” said Tchikou. “I’m a helpful person. I want to make sure the team is good and will have the right team chemistry. We will work hard and get better. I will bring energy and versatility.”

Tchikou, who will be signing with Alabama today, has high expectations for the team next season.

“We want to win a national championship,” Tchikou said.

Damn straight. Since we won it all this past season, let’s make it 2 straight and create a dynasty

Alabama basketball’s 2020 recruiting class moved from No. 22 to No. 12 in the country in @247Sports rankings following Sunday’s commitment of Alex Tchikou. Six of the top 12 classes in the country are from the SEC.

When it comes to the power forward position in today’s game, Tchikou has an ideal physical makeup. Pushing 6-foot-11 and roughly 200-pounds with long arms, Tchikou has plus-size for the position to go along with an impressive frame with wide shoulders and a strong lower base that you can build on.

The French native is also a terrific athlete. He can sprint the floor with ease, is explosive in space and is very quick laterally for his position.

Offensively, Tchikou has long been an intriguing prospect and there is still work to be done on this end. At this stage, Tchikou doesn’t have a specified strength but when it comes to his projection he has tons of upside as a rim-running, face-up and pick-and-pop weapon. Reaching his high ceiling will largely be dependent upon how he continues to improve as a shooter. His form on his mechanics are functional and with some tweaks and an improved shot selection he can certainly improve here quickly.

That said, offense is the cherry on top when it comes to Tchikou as a prospect as he is loaded with defensive potential. Due to his great physical tools, athleticism and lateral quickness Tchikou has the ability to upside to defend threes, fours and fives and switch on any ball-screen. His frame will continue to fill out so that is of little concern, however he will need to improve his focus and understanding on this end of the floor.

Ultimately, Tchikou is a high upside prospect who could make for a big time ‘3-and-D’ prospect that has become so coveted in today’s game. The physical tools are all there, there is absolutely no denying that. With time, coaching and commitment from Tchikou to buy in on both ends could make for a huge pickup for the Crimson Tide.

Tchikou is Nate Oats’ sixth commitment in his talented 2020 class, his third international recruit, consisting of Josh Primo, Keon Ambrose-Hylton, Darius Miles, Keon Ellis and immediately eligible transfer Jordan Bruner.

What a class. I really can't believe this. I said a long time ago in this thread that I loved Tchikou for our style of play but didn't think he was a realistic possibility. He's basically everything we wish Reese was.

Alabama basketball assistant coach Bryan Hodgson continues to establish himself as one of the top recruiters in the SEC.

Has been the lead recruiter on all five members of a 2020 recruiting class for Alabama that’s ranked 12th-best nationally per the 247 Composite rankings.

The day after beating Ole Miss on the road, Coach Hodgson was in a gym in California watching Alex Tchikou. It takes a lot of time and a sizable travel budget to recruit nationally, but the strategy is paying off as this staff is having tremendous success.

How do you pronounce his name? Is the T silent?

I’m guessing either Cheekoo or Chickoo or TuhCheekoo
