No doubt about it. Grant and Avery had to recruit with one hand tied behind their backs because they were having to convince kids that the boring, unimaginative way their teams played would change. This staff doesn't have to do that, so they get to actually sell something about the program instead of having to gloss over it.

Yep - and while you can never be sure about successful mid-major recruiting transitioning to a major job in a different region, they are selling the same way they did at Buffalo and finding ways to spot and convince specific types of kids that the system will help them flourish.

Like you said, it's just awesome to see a staff with a crystal clear vision and style that they mold a roster around and do everything based on. We haven't had that since Wimp. They still gotta prove they can win, but so far so good.

Yep, which is why playing that way last year - through all the chaos and ups and downs and less than stellar personnel fit - was absolutely the right choice.

100%

There were times last season when the square peg wouldn't go in the round hole and it was maddening. But ultimately I think we all knew it had to be done that way. Oats said from day one that he had a style of play that he absolutely would not deviate from and he didn't. Kudos to him for that, because Avery said basically the same exact thing and never made it happen.

Not only did it pay off by giving him and the staff the ability to pitch that uptempo transition offense that is extremely appealing on the recruiting trail, it also made him look all that much more credible to his players, future recruits and their parents, us fans, etc.

Last year when we saw him coaching that motley crew, I think most of us in here felt like we just needed to get the roster where it needed to be and Oats would be able to have a lot of success. I never thought he would be able to flip the entire roster this quickly. I can't compliment the staff enough on how well they've done in the short time they've been here.

The roster is infinitely more skilled because it isn't just constructed with a bunch of athletic dudes that play basketball like we have only seemed to have for forever. Now we are deep with basketball players that are also athletic and big. If you look at the size of our guys down the line, we have very quickly turned into one of those "off the bus" teams, but also managed to stay fast, athletic and skilled.

Disclaimer: THIS IS TOTALLY TONGUE IN CHEEK!

Nate got to Bama and looked around and saw L$U and thought to himself: "I see how it's done in the SEC. Will Wade, HOLD MY BEER! Brian, let's go do some 'crootin' the L$U way! You get a bag, and you get a bag, and you get a bag, e'rybody getting a bag of Benjamins! Just sign right here with the Crim$on Tide"

The level of recruiting is truly astonishing. If we do indeed land Alex T., this team will take a quantum leap this season and the Sweet Sixteen should be the new realistic target. We are definitely witnessing the reawakening of Alabama basketball and it's on a vertical trajectory. The next problem will certainly be retaining Oats and Hodgson. I think they are one of those rare synergistic teams where they need each other to be the stunning success they seem to be. Split them up and it's like Pippen without Jordan. I'm getting a woody thinking about basketball season now. Dear sweet baby Jesus, please let the season happen!

Hope they are actually right, because it would really suck if they aren't.

Yeah, couldn't realistically hope for a better upgrade than what it looks like we are going to get.
