In the frontcourt, things are promising. Charles Bediako could be the replacement for Mark Williams if Williams decides to depart after his freshman season. Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State are among the others heavily involved with Bediako, but I like Duke for now.

It is not easy to nail down specifics on the state of Malaki Branham's recruitment.

It seems safe to say that Ohio State is in the mix as the Buckeyes are typically very successful with in-state prospects and Branham is from Columbus. Two other regional programs, Louisville and Xavier, are also heavily in the mix. If Branham decides to look outside of his region, Alabama would likely be the spot. The Tide have invested as much attention and interest in Branham as any program, and Alabama was one of the first programs to prioritize him last year.

A commitment date has not been set but it would come as a surprise if he does not select Alabama, Louisville, Ohio State or Xavier.

Alabama’s Nate Oats and staff just virtually met with Top-30 sophomore Bruce Thornton, a source told @Stockrisers.

Purdue’s Matt Painter talks with him tomorrow.

UNRANKED TO 130: JAMES WHITE

Recruitment: Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Arizona State, Creighton, Arkansas, Georgia, Georgia Tech and others

James White has kind of come out of nowhere, despite being in the well-scouted and talent-rich state of Georgia. With good size, length and an impressive ability to shoot the basketball, White is someone who attracted a lot of attention during the season, and even more has come his way in the spring.

Combining his 6-foot-6 size with his high skill level, his high school film at Conyers (Ga.) Heritage showed a player that is definitely a high-major worthy prospect.
If White continues to take steps forward with his athleticism, that is when things could really takeoff for him with his game going to an entirely new level.

Yesterday news but didn't see it posted.

This kid is special. Will be competing with Nick Smith Jr for best player in the state but will be top 35 or so imo when they are seniors. That is also a fairly loaded class from the state of Arkansas in 2022.

I mean it was long article, there just wasn't too much to the substance.

The Crimson Tide basketball program went on an impressive recruiting stretch this past spring, adding several pieces -- including 247Sports five-star combo guard Josh Primo -- to its 2020 class that ended up ranked No. 21 in the nation, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Last week marked the first time coaching staffs could initiate contact with class of 2022 prospects, and a number of recruits reported UA offers in the days following, one of which was five-star power forward Jalen Washington of Gary (Ind.) West Side.

The 6-foot-8, 200-pounder gave BamaOnLine a quick reaction to the news.

"It was definitely an honor to receive an offer from Alabama," he said. "Right now I’m building a relationship with Coach (Nate) Oats and Coach Bryan (Hodgson), so I’m really just asking questions and listening to see what knowledge I can gain and thinking about what I like about their school and basketball program."

Washington's head coach Chris Buggs talked to Peegs.com's (247Sports' Indiana site) Jeff Rabjohns about Washington's recruiting process.

“He’s handling it in a very mature way,” Buggs said of the recruiting process. “He knows he’s not as young as he used to be. When you’re young, you don’t really pay attention. He’s starting to pay attention. You can’t get out and see schools just yet, but there are definitely some schools he wants to see. He’s wide open as far as his recruitment.”

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranks Washington the No. 4 power forward and the No. 17 overall player in the country. 247Sports has Washington within the top 10 of the rankings, coming in at No. 9.

247Sports' Brian Snow gave an early eval of the Indiana talent:

"Has ideal combination of size, length, skill and athleticism at the forward position. Has a huge wingspan and great hands, A new age power forward with tremendous upside. Can make shots from three, score down low or create off the dribble, A do-it-all player. A tremendous rebounder and someone who should be able to defend all over the court. He has to continue to get stronger and more consistent with his motor, but the physical tools and skills are there for him to be an elite prospect."

Yeah, just annoyed at our basketball coverage I guess. Seems like there are literally 100x the amount of football recruiting articles.

I completely understand why from multiple angles, it's just annoying sometimes when you realize we get 90%+ of our basketball info from the national folks or from the other schools recruiting guys. I really wish we could just get one person that would focus on hoops and report on football secondarily.

Agreed - though I think some of them try hard, they just don't have any sort of contacts for basketball recruiting like they do football.

Most likely true. Hopefully with some sustained success under Oats (and locking him down when it happens) we can get just a tad more focus on basketball recruiting.
