Trust me George if we get Bruner we're without a doubt a contender in the conference. We'll have an inside & outside game to go along with the good coaching we're finally getting. We've got to have better luck with injuries though.

Bruner/Rojas at the 5 is improvement over Reese/Galin/Javian at the 5

Bruner/Rojas at the 5 would be the best inside game we've had since Wimp Sanderson was coach.

Agreed. I haven’t seen Bama with a Center capable of doing anything but finish a dunk when the guard/forward creates a nice play for them in what seems like 10-15 years. It’ll be nice to have a offensively-skilled basketball player at Center rather than just a defensive guy

Idk... Chuck Davis/Jamareo Davidson and Jamareo Davidson/Richard Hendrix we’re both pretty damn good Duos inside

I was gonna say - Chuck Davis will not be forgotten.

Name: Landers Nolley
Position: Combo Forward
Years Remaining: Three
Schools Interested: Seton Hall, Alabama Connecticut, Texas Tech, Memphis, Ole Miss, TCU, NC State, Georgetown, Oregon and Maryland
Nolley redshirted his first year in Blacksburg, and as a redshirt freshman he put up some prolific counting stats. He scored 15.5 points and grabbed 5.8 rebounds per game for the Hokies, but he didn’t love his role on the team.
For the year, Nolley shot 37 percent from the floor and 32 percent from the three-point line. He has good size and athleticism, but also has to be more efficient with his game. The talent is there, now he just needs a little refinement.

quote:
Name: Luther Muhammad
Position: Wing
Years Remaining: Two
Schools Interested: Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Arizona State, Seton Hall, UCLA, West Virginia, New Mexico
A four-star recruit coming out of high school, Muhammad has always been known for his toughness, motor and ability to impact the game on the defensive end, while also being solid on offense.
Muhammad started 56 games in two years for the Buckeyes and was a key part of their rotation. As a sophomore, Muhammad posted 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while making 35 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. He will contribute more on defense than offense as a player, but he does show some signs of being able to make open shots and also attacking off the bounce against a bad closeout.

Some hardcore gumpin going on in here.
I know it was a long time ago but Antonio McDyess was literally the second pick in the NBA draft.
Hendrix
Davidson
Chuck Davis
While we're at it, if we get better interior play next year than we got from Jamychal, Hines, and Tony Mitchell in 2011-2012, then we will roll into the NCAA tournament. Those dudes were pretty dominant that year.

I'll concede on McDyess. Was Gottfired already here when Antonio played? I thought he was Wimp's last couple of years.

We had Mcdyess, Roy Rogers and Jason Caffey on the same team for two years. Not too damn bad
Jamal Faulkner was also on this teams and he was a parade all American out of high school and put up really solid numbers for Bama

Pretty sure McDyess was under David Hobbs

Yeah Roy Rogers was pretty good too. I think he was the year after McDyess. Lost first night of SEC tourney and cost themselves an NCAA bid

I'm as excited as anybody about next year, but I have to agree. I think Rojas and Bruner can be good, but they're not the most talented guys we've had. While we're on the subject, Primo is ranked lower than Petty was coming out of high school. I'm most excited about the coaching. I think Oats can get more out of the talent we do have than our recent coaches have.

it was Hobbs actually.
And I fell down a rabbit hole the other day and started looking at 2010-2011 advanced stats (God knows why - slow work from home day). And man Jamychal and Tony Mitchell were good that year.
LINK
Somehow they were #1 and #3 in PER for the entire conference (Festus Ezeli was #2 and Terrence Jones from Kentucky was #4). That's a stat that's sort of weighted towards big guys, but still.
Also we shot 29.8% from 3 as a team and went 12-4 in conference
Also it says we averaged 59.4 points a game. As a team. And that appears to not just be in conference. I've looked at that a bunch of times and am struggling to accept that it's true. And I watched every game basically.
So yeah I think if we have a better inside duo than those two (and Hines doing the dirty work) next year, then we might be a 1 seed.
(I get that there could be an argument against Tony being part of an "inside duo" since he was a SF, but he was basically an around the rim player)
Anyway, apologies for the thread hijack. I certainly hope we get Bruner. That would be huge.
