I thought Forbes was pretty terrible. He was tabbed as a three point specialist and made 12 or 56 from three, 21%. He's not a very good ball handler or defender either.
If we can get someone who is a big upgrade I don't see why we wouldn't.

Why would Forbes leave before Galin? Galin couldn’t make my high school team

I'll be shocked if either one of them are here next season.

Because we are getting an abundance of wing players. Not a lot of bigs.

Thing that jumped out to me about Bruner’s numbers were the 3.8 assists a game. That’s strong for a 4/5. I don’t really know what sort of offense Yale runs, but that’s a solid number regardless.
For a little context, Kira averaged 5.2 and Petty was second on the team with 2.5 a game.

Galin just isn't any good, but what's the deal with Forbes? Complete misevaluation by the previous staff? Work ethic/coachability issues? Just not happy with the new staff? That would make 2 they have given up on after just one season, which can potentially create some issues down the road.
To be honest, before the season started I thought both Forbes and Hawkins would get processed after the first year. Forbes just never impressed me with his tape and his stroke didn’t look all that good. His only positive was supposed to be his 3 pt shooting, and while you expect freshmen to struggle from 3, 21% is abysmal, and I’m struggling to think of a player who shot that poorly his freshman year turn into a sharp-shooter (which is what he needs to be to become a scholarship player here) by the time his collegiate career was up.

Not sure what his percentages were but I remember Levi Randolph improving his shooting dramatically from his freshman year til he left

Update on Frank Anselem with not much clarity. May or may not reclassify to 2020. May or may not commit soon. Alabama listed as one of the four programs most involved in his recruitment.
Who is this kid? I’ve never heard of him

I didn't think we ever really had a chance with him, but if we are able to get him and he reclassifies...boy howdy.

247 CBs have him going to LSU

LSU has had Shareef Oneal commit to them since then, that may or may not effect where Anselem goes. He said we are one of the four schools recruiting him the hardest.

27%, but he never really turned into someone I’d call a sharp-shooter either. He didn’t have to be though, as that was not his primary skill set and he did most everything else very well, even as a freshman. With Forbes, shooting is supposed to be his only real skill set, and he was terrible at it in year 1.

Bruner would be a very good get but the downside is he’s one and done. Then we are back to needing a versatile big. I’m not saying don’t go after him but we’ve got to break this cycle of bandaid fixes and get some continuity by developing players in house. Speaking of that, would Ellis have 2 years left or 3?

Releford was an awful shooter his first 2 years and a fantastic shooter his last 2. Retin was too, though he never became quite as good of a shooter as Releford.

Say we got a highly ranked big out of HS there's no guarantee they'd be here more than one or two years either.
We got Primo out of HS and may end of being here a less amount of time than Ellis.
I just want good players, I don't care if we get them through Juco, transfers, or high school, good players are good players regardless of where they come from.
We need immediate help right now, so Juco and Grad transfers are the best routes to go imo.

For both of those players shooting was not something they were supposed to bring coming out of HS. That wasn’t what they were brought in to do. They brought other things to the table which gave them more time on the floor and built confidence for their shooting to improve over time. Not to mention, those 2 were 28% and 29% from 3 their freshman years. I’d agree they were pretty awful shooters, but the difference percentage-wise between them and Forbes is greater than those 2 and a good 3-pt shooter. You can’t keep putting a player on the floor who’s only real skill coming in was supposed shooting and him continue to shoot, not just awful, but an embarrassingly low 21% from 3. This isn’t something he can be allowed to work through like Releford and Obasohan because he brings nothing else to the table.

I don’t think Oats and the staff really wanted Forbes, but they weren’t in position to turn guys that were committed away. If it tells you anything, with all the injuries he still barely played any minutes. That is why Forbes will be the first to go. He’s just a guy. At least Galin is 6’11 and a big body. Those don’t grow on trees. Guys like Forbes do.

It's not like he took 200 3s or something. 56 over the course of a full season is a small sample. He's 2 hot shooting nights away from an overall decent percentage. Nothing about him impressed me enough to be upset if he moves on, but giving up on 2 freshmen who barely played, including one that was not one of the old staff's recruits, is concerning to me.
