Sexton and Garland have both played PG their whole career, they wont both be technically playing PG at the same time, but they will basically have two players who have been elite at PG on the floor at the same time. Same thing Nate Oats wants to do with Kira and Quinerly.

I didn't think it needed an explanation that the two of them weren't technically playing PG at the same time.

Unless they started playing with two basketballs at once I dont think thats possible.

Didn't mean to come off as a douchebag.

Sexton didn't play PG until his senior year of HS

Sexton was a top player who played at the PG position. He is not an elite playmaking point guard but a top scorer

Putting Sexton off ball where he can be set up better and handle the ball in mismatch situations would be ideal

You're the only one who predicted Bama will miss the tourney this year by the way. Sticking with that?

SEC Basketball: Top 15 impact players in 2019 recruiting class

quote:

12. Jaylen Forbes, Alabama Crimson Tide

Forbes poses a threat as a player that can get to the basket whenever he wants and create tough baskets through traffic. He’s got a nice wingspan for a player of his caliber and while at Florence High School (MS) this past season, he put up 23.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He led his team to a record of 25-7 record on the season. They made it all the way to the state 4A title game where they upset by Raymond High School. He’ll be ready to contribute on a bigger stage this upcoming season in the SEC with the Crimson Tide.

quote:

9. Juwan Gary, Alabama Crimson Tide

Juwan Gary is a 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward prospect that has had quite the high school career prior to committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The South Carolina Gamecocks were long considered favorites which makes for a better storyline considering they’re also in the SEC. Gary is a dynamic player that can change the way the Crimson Tide play on both ends. He was a solid holdover with the hiring of head coach Nate Oats in the 2019 recruiting class. Oats was able to hold onto Gary and rising sophomore Kira Lewis Jr., who mulled transferring, proving his impact already as a recruiter as well as a head coach. With his size and versatility, Gary is a player that can create off the dribble and attack the rim with reckless abandon. He’s a player that should challenge for starter minutes right away in Year 1 under head coach Nate Oats.

Just went back and watched that 15 min video again and I gotta say Juwan Gary was impressive. He is like Herb Jones with some Offensive game

Sexton is a lot more proven than Garland, Sexton made the NBA all rookie team as a PG.

Garland looked good in most of his 5 college games vs Kent State, Alcorn State, Liberty, Savannah State, and Winthrop but I wouldn't quite count on him supplanting Sexton as PG. They will probably handle the ball a pretty similar amount, if Garland lives up to his hype.

I agree that playing off ball suits Collin’s game now but if he’s going to stick in the league he’s gotta develop as a PG right?

Maybe he can develop alongside Garland. I hope so.

AKA This guy knows nothing about him, but his 247 composite is solid.

You are completely missing my point.

I am telling you that Sexton is not and never had been a gifted ball distributor/passer. He is not the guy you want facilitating the offense

Don't burden Sexton w the responsibility and let him focus on scoring and setting himself up by playing off ball

This isn't a knock. Sexton is an elite scorer, I'm saying let him play a role that lets him focus on what he does beat

I would have thought Sexton's assist numbers would have greatly increased in the NBA with all the space that's created in the league from outside shooters but that didn't happen.

It went the opposite way, his teammates were leaking to the press constantly that they didn't like playing with him because he was a ballhog...

Sexton has never been known to be a great passer at any stage thus far.

Sexton can still be ball dominant 2 guard offensively, I just don't think he should be asked to be a primary creator for others. He'd be an unreal fit with big men passers like Jokic in Denver for example or a Draymond Green

Sexton is like playing Kobe at point guard. Or Russ Westbrook when he forgets that he has teammates

Yea I get that but I don't think anyone would've thought his assist numbers would go down from Ala to Cleveland. They did.

Comparing him to Leonard and Kobe in anyway is pretty generous. Both those guys were physically much further along. He'll never be either due to lack of size.

Garland averaged 3 turnovers a game and 2.6 assists per game last year, not exactly great for a PG.

ouch

quote:

Loser: Cleveland Cavaliers
One season after drafting a small, ball-dominant, scoring point guard not known for his distributing skills, the Cavaliers drafted … a small, ball-dominant, scoring point guard not known for his distributing skills. Maybe Collin Sexton and Darius Garland can coexist in a backcourt together. Or maybe Sexton gets traded. Either way, this was one of the more perplexing picks of the lottery.

Quick note, kid played all of 5 games or so. Not a real good sample size

I said I think Sexton would be better being asked to be a primary scorer not offensive facilitator. I didn't say Garland pick made much sense

That would be what was best for Sexton. Whoever is managing the Cavs obviously aren't very good at their job.
