I never thought Watford was choosing us so no hopes were up here. Very excited about who signed with 1 more to go & a good cast returning.

Avery had 4 years to recruit Trendon, Oats had about 8 weeks. It was well known that Trendon had cooled extremely on the shitshow that Avery had in Tuscaloosa. There were also rumors his family was shopping him. By the time Oats got to him, his love for Bama was gone and Oats is an unknown in the SEC. So Trendon and his handlers get Penny and Wade in a bidding war and take the best offer. Where’s the surprise? Alabama missed on him because of the Avery era.

The sunshine pumper that didn't post this season wanted to keep Avery because of how well he was recruiting Trendon

Watching his film I like him more than Watford and think he would be a better fit in Oats system, can stroke it from three and handle the ball very well to be 6'7.

Our roster is set for this year I think. Still could push out someone like Javian, or maybe Mack doesn’t come back, and then we could sign Quinerly who would sit a year (if he wants to come here)

Our coaches knew Watford wasn’t coming here and that Rojas was. Did they keep this quiet until today to keep up relations with Mountain Brook and Bucky?

Yep. The disappointment with Watford choosing LSU kinda overshadows what is a very good addition with Rojas.
Rojas is ranked #5 on a list that I saw of the Top 100 juco prospects available. To put that in perspective, FSU who is now arguably one of the top 4 or 5 rosters in the ACC and loaded with good athletically dominant players signed the #44 and #54 ranked prospects respectively on that same list. Rojas is essentially a high end 4 star addition to the other recent 4 star recruits we've added recently. Great consolation prize imho

My guess is for perception sake. We took a hit not getting the most coveted recruit from Alabama in some time so signing Rojas right after softens the sting.

I was told Oats backed off Watford.
Im guessing Rojas was our guy all along and Oats didnt say anything because he didnt wanna ruin his relationship with Bucky and Didnt wanna upset (FOGs) in our fanbase.

I think this is probably right. Oats didn't allude to Wartford at all after the visit. Either it was clear Watford wasn't coming to Bama, or Nate didn't want to match the other strong arse offers.
