I feel pretty good about our chances of landing Bolden for the PG situation.
For the Center, here are a few guys I wish we'd take a look at.
Derrik Smits - 7' 1", 240 lbs Center from Valparaiso. Profile & Stats Has a nice post game, moves well for his size, is a pretty good passer, and great length obviously YouTube Highlights
Shakur Juiston - 6' 7", 220 lbs Foward from UNLV. Profile & Stats Got injured this past season and only played 8 games. Averaged a double-double the year before last. He may be slightly undersized for the 5, but he's a great athlete with a really good mid-range game, has a high motor, and is a tenacious rebounder. YouTube Highlights
TJ Holyfield - 6' 8", 227 lbs Forward from Stephen F. Austin. Profile & Stats He sat out all of last year with a shoulder injury. But before that he was the Southland Conference Tournament MVP, shot a great percentage in all three categories(2pt,3pt,FT), was a solid rebounder, and was a good shot blocker.
All three guys are currently uncommitted and eligible immediately. I don't know if we're looking at any of them, but I'd love to get one. Especially Shakur Juiston. Love his game & would be a good fit in Oats scheme.

I think Smits is out off the rip, the 5 has to be able to shoot in Oats offense. Holyfield makes the most sense for what Oats wants out of the 5, at least short term.

Our odds to win the National Title next year are 75/1....26th best nationally.

Maybe, but I know Oats has said he likes to play a lot of four-out, one-in. So having a skilled big that could clog the middle and pass it around well, seems like a positive for that. And you can be a good shooter without necessarily being a 3 point specialist.

Has Galin or Fleming expressed interest in transferring? I’ve seen some cryptic tweets from Fleming but nothing from Galin.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything about Galin. He retweeted the announcement about the Oats hiring, but that doesn't really mean anything. I don't think he'll leave on his own. He'd have to be convinced to look elsewhere. And unless Oats has someone else lined up I doubt he'd force him out for no reason. I'd like a grad transfer to replace him though.

I’d like Galin to stay, and see how he does under Oats. He seems to get along well with his teammates and has his head on straight. If it’s not working out then he can leave next year as a graduate and be immediately eligible.
Assuming we sign Watford, do we need another transfer to find room for Bolden? Under normal circumstances I’d read our pursuit of Bolden to mean we didn’t feel confident in Watford since spaces are so tight. But we need a PG so bad you never really know.

Yes, Watford would put us squarely at 13, if there's no surprise transfers. So if we want to add Bolden, someone would have to go. Most likely one of either Galin or Fleming. Diante Wood would be another candidate, but Coach Oats has already stated that we have too many bigs. And from Fleming's tweets he seems like he might be the odd man out

I think Oats is 100% counting on Bolden..He said yesterday on radio as of right now there is 1 available spot(Watford)...but expect 1 or 2 more defections from current roster.
Petty and Kira already said they coming back and fit the new scheme
Mack,Reese, and Diante Wood fit the new scheme.
Herb could fit the scheme now that he actually has a coach that will develop him.
That leaves Galin and Javian....who dont fit but Javian fits more than Galin IMO.

We all went from thinking we didn’t have enough bigs to now we have too many

Isn’t Smits theson of the former Pacers center?

I think he’s a great player, but that would be a very small lineup with very little rim protection. He’ll likely get abused at 5 in SEC play with all the dominant big men within the conference and he doesn’t have the shooting to play the 4. Love his rebounding numbers though. If he could add on another 10-15 lbs of muscle I’d be all for him. I miss Bola, and he seems like he could be a better scoring Bola.
Holyfield poses somewhat the same issue, but he’s got a little more girth and height and is a much better rim protector. Also adds shooting to the mix. Not close to the same kind of rebounder though.
I really like Smits. Seems like he’s a good midrange shooter which will help the spacing and a very good post defender. Main question with him is if he runs the floor well enough for Oats to play him.

I think Smits would look good in Oats system. He has great looking midrange stroke. He may not have the 3 pt stats to back it, but given his form it might be expanded out to the 3pt line. He’s also a pretty passer which also fits the scheme.
Holyfield is for sure the safer fit, but I think Smits has the potential to be a great fit as well.

Can’t really go into detail on this, but I’m expecting to hear some good news soon. This isn’t Watford related either.

Going in a different direction, did anyone else notice all the mid-range shots (floaters, turn around jumpers, etc.) that were being taken by the teams in the Sweet-16?...interesting.
