That felt a lot like the last football game. Got down three touchdowns early because we couldn't get out of our own way, and then couldn't catch up.

Y'all can bag on Petty all you want but he's one of our best defenders and rebounders now. Beetle and Shackleford played like shite.

Yep. Kira is what we thought. Herb is better, Reese is serviceable, Davis isn’t bad, Shackelford is streaky but has his moments. The rest just plain suck.

WTF does Reese offer?? Two threes a game. He can’t rebound. He can’t play defense. Hell I'm not even sure he can pick his feet up high enough to walk.

He makes it pretty easy

His shot can come and go because that’s basketball, but the inability to dribble in his third year of college basketball is pretty shocking.

Yeah it did feel like the last football game. Record amount of points given up by both squads because the defenses are shite.

Reese contributed 10 points on 4-8 shooting, 2-3 from 3, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, no fouls, no turnovers. That’s not an All-American stat line but it’s better than everybody’s but Kira and Herb.

He doesn’t play defense enough to foul and those 5 rebounds had to of fell in his hands. He didn’t jump for them

We actually resembled a basketball team starting from about 14:00 in the 2nd half until 2:00 in the 2nd half when Bolden put the final dagger in us.

Why did it take 26 minutes for us to show up though?

Seriously, what type of players did Buffalo have with Oats? Is our team here in Tuscaloosa that much less talented?

Yes

We turned the ball over 324 times tonight and dribble off our peckers at least 12 times per game.

Problem is that Reese is so profoundly bad on defense that he'd have to score 20+ just to negate his "contributions" on the other end. He doesn't foul, because you have to actually fricking make contact with a player on the other team in order to foul.

In Buffalo they took care of the ball better, played defense better and hit open shots, especially layups. We have to have the worlds worst layup shooters ever.

I’m gonna be honest and say John Petty has been a huge detriment these past few seasons. I hate to fall out specific players but he fricks up too much. I hold my breath when he gets the ball.

I know we are all kinda melting right now but I’m surprised people haven’t had more good things to say about Davis. Most things I’m seeing is “Davis isn’t bad” or “he’s fine”. Seems more than fine to me. 11/7 and only 2 TOs. Was even 5/5 from the line. He could be a VERY good player for us. Who was the last big man we’ve had who managed 19/9 and 11/7 in his 2nd and 3rd official games in a Bama uniform?

Davis HAS been a really pleasant surprise, it’s just everyone not named Kira or Herb has been a big disappointment and has sucked all the positive vibes from the fans.

I like what I see out of him so far. He has quick feet, soft hands, he isn't afraid of scrapping in the paint, and he has a nice looking shot. I think if he can learn to shoot from outside, and his shot from the FT line makes me think he can, he could be a real weapon for us in a year or two.

I love how quickly everyone has changed the narrative from hype to "well it's going to take time". Like, it's OK to be disappointed right now guys. You aren't a bad fan if you're unhappy about how this team has looked through 3 games. Were they going to be world beaters? Absolutely not. Should they be this bad? Absolutely not.

I agree.

One function of the message board is airing frustration and while 3 games in no way tells the story of the future for Oats -- I'm still frustrated as hell.

Nothing really looks better than last year three games in. . . In fact, I would say we look much worse:

We are awful stopping the ball

We don't defend well as a team

We look like we've never seen a screen

We throw the ball away lackadaisically -- and even our best player Kira in crunch time -- 15 times a game

We look extremely uncomfortable "pushing" the ball and make even more bad decisions than when we slow it down a bit

We still show "heart" in fighting back after digging a hole by playing like it's warm up for rec league game for long stretches until the final 10 minutes

Much of this was blamed on Avery's system or his "lax discipline" and I hoped that was at least partially true.

So I'll put this out there. If you combine the stat lines for Shackleford, Petty, & Bolden, it looks like this.

14 points
6-21 from the field
2-15 from the 3 point line
11 turnovers

That is abysmal for three of your main guards. Petty did have 8 rebounds to his credit, but that's really it. You can't have those kind of performances and expect to win. We honestly shouldn't have even been able to cut it down to a two-possesion game towards the end. The only thing I can cling to is, can they really be any worse than that....? God I hope not.
