Think we’re a couple years away from really worrying about losing Oats

I agree, but I'd be ok with giving him a significant raise after this season if we continue showing improvement. When those other schools start calling, we can show him that we've been more than supportive since the beginning.

Absolutely. I’ve seen enough to be convinced that he can coach. Can he get the players he needs is still a bit of a question mark.

And I know he got the players he needed at Buffalo, etc. It’s different now.

Cameron is historic due to the Indian's

Coleman is just old due to the Indian's as well

Oh so it's as simple as injecting decades worth of history and tradition into the facility? Good to know.

Your argument that all you need is a good coach is just...wrong. We are not a basketball school. We have never been a basketball school. Investing into facilities is one of the areas where we can develop an advantage over other programs both in terms of recruiting and keeping a good coach around.

We have the money (thanks to football) to have the nicest basketball facilities in the country, we just need the motivation

Duke plays at Cameron Arena that was built in 1942...then again they added A/C in 2002.

Cameron Indoor is a bandbox that has a great atmosphere and aura

Coleman is a generic 1960s building that has no character and is a miserably awful layout for an intimidating environment.

Can we pony up the moneys if a blue blood showed interest in Oats? Whats our ceiling financially if we wanted to keep him?

If Byrne thinks Oats is the guy and Oats wants to be here, I doubt anyone could pry him away. I'd be shocked if we lost him due to salary.

Tell that to Saban. Saban believes, the fancier the arrow, then the better Indians will come

“I think it speaks volumes to a commitment to a standard of excellence that the University, the athletic department has to continue to be our best,” he said. “If you stand pat and everybody else is chasing you and what you do, they’re eventually going to catch you. To be aggressive in trying to make improvements is really important.”

I agree that recruiting is a question mark, but Nate Oats is showing that he can coach and motivate players. A winning atmosphere with his style of play, will bring in big time recruits. Let's sit back and enjoy.

Alabama starting to show up in some NCAA bracket projections, including this one from @TeamRankingsCBB.

Very interesting because their model simulates season results & they have Bama at an 8-seed.

Creighton is 9-seed. Wouldn't that be something.

Love seeing them play so hard, also love seeing the team fight through the early rough part of the season and not let it impact them moving forward. Leadership.

now go win 2 more this week! RTR!

who do we lose after this season?

Another cool fact - we’ve covered the spread in 11 straight games.

But, it could use at least some type of upgrade or replacement and we keep redoing BDS, which already was at the top of college football, puzzles me

Updating Coleman was part of Phase 2 of this current facilities upgrade. BDS and softball stadium were first. I’m pretty sure I read they had already raised enough money for the Coleman renovations. Last I heard the plan was to lower the court surface and rotate it 90 degrees, and add upper decks on the sides. Original plan I think was to start after this season, but with BJcC renovations that may have changed.

Forget where I read this. Maybe someone else can confirm.

ETA - I think they’re also planning on removing the roof and installing a flat one with some sunlights in it.

Salary wont stop us from keeping Nate Oats, a commitment to basketball facilities or a lack if one will. We’ve been talking about replacing Coleman for 20 years now but instead, we keep putting millions of dollars in a fresh coat of lipstick on that pig. And in the meantime, we gold plate another bathroom in BDS. This latest “upgrade” is stupid. Nobody wanted it except Saban and the deep pocketed boosters that want to squeeze some of the commoners out of their palace. It pisses me off. How much money have we thrown away renovating an outdated building?

Regarding Nate’s contract, I agree we need to do what we can to keep him happy. If more money will, thrown another couple of millions at him. But what we DONT need to do is give him an exorbitant buyout. We’ve done that with the two previous coaches to try and hang on to them and all it has done is backfire and cause us to keep them longer than we should. Lets learn from our past mistakes.

I think Nate is the real deal too. I was one of the first to jump on that wagon. But we dont KNOW that yet. He still hasn’t gone through a full recruiting cycle yet. He did miss on Trendon and how big is that now? That may not be fair, I know, but he would make a big difference. Im just saying lets not go off half cocked.

Trendon got paid. If Oats was willing to cheat, we would've had him, imo.
