Ty comes back for another year assuming he remains the starter all year.

Do we lose a QB in the portal? And if so which one?

My guess would be Mack as the young freshman knows he will play a lot his sophomore year and be a starter his junior and perhaps his senior year. Yes, these are first world problems, but we got a lot of time until Sat's kickoff.

Ty doesn't look NFL ready right now mentally.
On the other hand, Ty is more NFL ready than Milroe will ever be. And he went 3rd round as a project....

So who knows if he will stay or go. But if Ty stays, he'll be the starter next year, Mack transfers, and its Keelon's team in '27. Keelon simply isn't jumping a Captain QB who is deadly accurate and knows the offense.

We'd lose both Mack & Russell. I can see Mack entering the next portal and playing 4 yrs isn't on Russell's radar. My hope is Ty plays well enough to enter the draft this yr and hand the reigns to Russell for the next 2 seasons.

We gonna lose one regardless. We've 3 starting qbs two of which aren't going to wait.

I doubt Keelon sticks around if he doesn't see a path to starting in year 2. So if Ty stays and there's not a true opportunity to unseat him then I think Keelon's gone. Mack too probably. There's a reason we have 2 QBs in this recruiting class. One way or another 2 out of the 3 current guys are probably not on the team next season.

I get the feeling the GM and NIL admins are going to tell Simpson to move on with dollar signs this offseason if he doesn’t play well enough to go pro.

I hope it is the more copacetic path because it means Simpson excelled and Alabama likely did well as a team because of it. However, I don’t think they’re going to just let Keelon walk for depth chart reasons. We all saw him throw it last night. If we weren’t trying to compete for championships, they’d be starting him already or by midseason. If things go sideways, he will probably be starting in November.

I like Ty Simpson. I admire his attitude, I admire that he’s stuck it out, I hope he’s an All-SEC and All-America this year and a finalist for the Heisman.

But if it comes down to a choice between keeping him or Russell, I am going to tell him “Thank you for your service, we’re going in a different direction.”

Because we cannot … CANNOT … let Russell walk.

Keelon operated in the pocket and made throws beyond his years. Felt very much like Tua getting into games during the 2017 regular season or Bryce getting his opportunities in 2020.

You’re right that they’re going to do the “thank you for your service, but we’re going in another direction” meeting with Simpson if it comes to it. They can’t let Keelon walk due to the depth chart. Money? Who knows these days…can’t control that like a depth chart. Would love to believe he’s bought into this offense and thinks he’s their next Penix.

I hate the idea of losing Mack, he’s going to win a lot of games for someone.

But Russell is a generational talent, if he stays healthy people are going to be writing books about him a generation from now.

If the money is right then I can see the freshman hanging around while Ty plays another year. He could see a lot of PT as a back up if we can get the O rolling like last night. Getting a lot of young guys playing could put next year over the top with a returning QB

That certainly is a best-case scenario and I pray it’s what happens. But again, if it comes down to keeping Russell or giving Ty another year, I am keeping Russell.

If Ty comes back, we will pay to keep Russell.
And then we only get one full year of Keelin and he goes pro. Sucks and doesnt

I’m just saying everyone here seems to be in agreement that instead of keeping a proven starter who played a good game last Saturday and a great game yesterday to hit the road for a QB who has yet to lead a team. The teams who stand the best chance at a deep playoff run and Nac are teams who have a returning or senior transfer QB.

Two years of starting is probably more important than the money for someone with Russell’s ambitions. Also, you gotta manage the roster payroll sensibly. Throwing down two starter’s worth of money is robbing from other areas of the roster.

I understand that. But how many of those senior quarterbacks are “him?”

That’s what makes this problematic. Unless he gets hurt, I would wager my firstborn that Russell is “him.”

I’m loath to lose “him” from my ball team.

And do the “rules” you mentioned as giving teams the best chance to win apply in the NIL/portal era where someone can just go out and poach a quarterback and make a run at the big trophy?

Why though? It only takes one good year to be an early first rounder

He will see a lot of teams court him with a ton of NIL money by the end of the season. It will all depend on how this season shakes out and whether he believes he’s the one that can return Bama back to the Dynasty. Hopefully getting a taste of the atmosphere of Title Town Saturday night is enough to keep him here.

This.

I know kids get people in their ear, but you'd be crazy to leave a program like Alabama with a clear path to starting for 2 years.

"oh I'm Mr 5 star, if I'm not starting by sophomore year I'm gone" is just not a very smart strategy.
