We should be fine. If it turns out we knew about his ineligibility and still played him, then we're fricked. But if we didn't even know about it until after he was gone, then I have to believe we shouldn't be punished too heavily. I wouldn't be surprised either way. 2011 and 2012 could easily be vacated

The thing the NCAA would have to do to pin anything on us is to be able to prove their is a lack of institutional control. With Saban at the helm I find this highly unlikely.

But if something does come out of this it isn't the end of the world. I grew in Memphis during Calipari's time and when the Derrick Rose stuff happened they thought it was the end to what is a pretty prestigious basketball program. Well they have finished with a top 5 recruiting class every year since then. Calipari, who was the coach when the sanction hit, has since won a championship and could possibly do it again this year.

Ohio State and Penn State both brought in 2 guys I would consider extremely good coaches while on probation and USC would probably have been dominant during their probation if it wasn't for Kiffin.

tl;dr There will probably be zero sanctions unless the NCAA can prove their was a lack of institutional control and if sanctions do come we will still be one of the elite teams in college football.

From the wise words of Nick Saban:

Take the barber approach...

Lawyer up (same lawyers as Cam and Johnny please)
Shut up (Fluker and Davis lock it up)
Watch it go away (we got a three peat to focus on)

Everyone enjoy the season

Damnit this pisses me off so much. Agents are all snakes in the grass and I wish real consequences would come to them. They should be the ones to lose their licenses over this.

Again how do you police 85+ kids in all aspects of their lives to ensure that they aren't receiving improper benefits in some way. You can educate them until you are blue in the face, but in the end they make decisions that can either make or break a program.

I just wish the SEC would secede from the NCAA. We all want to believe that our programs and players are clean, but just look at this past offseason/ early season

Alabama- agent gate
LSU- Les Miles OSU
TAMU- JFF autograph gate/ RSJ accusations
Miss St. - Jonathan Banks (agent gate)
Ole Miss- recruiting/ pics of kids with $
Auburn LINK
Florida- Urban Meyer coverup?
TN- Tyler Bray agent gate
Vandy- rape coverup accusations.
South Carolina- Clowney autographs
Mizzou- tutor scandal (mentioned in the upcoming book)

And these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Lets face it: the NCAA should be dead. There is no such thing as a clean program.

This isn't the NCAA's fault. It's the NFL's.

Does anyone else not care that DJ and others got paid? Good for them.

Who would have guessed that DJ stood for Danny Jesus?

Exactly. Fluker isnt going to say anything, the agent isn't going to say anything, bank records and receipts would have to be given to the NCAA, and Robinson isn't going to give up his sources.

They NCAA is too impotent to do dick about this.

Exactly. There is nothing the NCAA can do about a poor 21 year old college student with a 1 year old child of his own being tempted by an agent offering him thousands of dollars. The NFL has the power to revoke their certification though. They choose not to exercise that power.

True, but how do you ever enforce these rules? Do you hammer down on some while others skate by?

This kind of crap goes on at every institution. The thing that especially ticks me off is that it isn't like our coaches are handing the kids these checks. That is something the university can control and where the university should be liable.

But how do you ensure that these kids don't get money outside of the athletic complex? Simple. You can't. And neither should you. As I'm applying for grad school, I'm looking at schools that will pay me to go. That does not negate my eligibility as a student. There is no way that these student athletes can work a part time jobs during the season because of the requirements of the sport. They bring in lot of money to the university, so why shouldn't they get a small percentage of it?

The rules are antiquated and should be changed.

Lets face it. If we learned anything from $cam, Oregon, JFF, it is that the NCAA has way more rules than they can enforce. And if they did enforce these rules across the board, almost all programs would have sanctions.

You can't. The NCAA has no leverage over the NFL and there's absolutely no way of getting them to work with you if not working with you is going to harm their economic interests.

I have no idea what will come of all this but if NCAA actions cost us our NCs, I will be so severely heartbroken that I don't see how I can ever enjoy spectator sports again.

I'm retired so maybe I'll just sit back in my rocker and knit.

We will be fine. USC still was able to keep their AP national title and here in Memphis everyone knows that trip to the Final Four happened.

We are a part of the elite of the elites when it comes to college football and no sanctions can ever change that minus the damn death penalty (which won't even be part of the discussion).

It would have a pretty significant impact on me and the way I feel about certain things, I will say that.

So far the issue is DJ may have taken money from a so-called NFL agent? Amarite?

Money had nothing to do with signing with UA or to remain at UA? Money not based on performance?
UA had no knowledge either right?

Well then, nothing to sweat about then.

All in all, this is just bad for college football... It's becoming hard to take the sport serious.
