Scouting Maryland Eastern Shore
• Maryland Eastern Shore comes to Hoover after finishing 13-35 overall a season ago, including an 8-15 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Hawks finished fourth in the North Division of the MEAC and were 0-2 in the conference's postseason tournament.
• Maryland Eastern Shore features three preseason All-MEAC honorees, including second baseman Mike Escanilla, RHP Jesse Stinnett and outfielder Greg Turlik. Escanilla was named to the first team thanks to a .289 batting average and 11 stolen bases in 2014. Stinnett, the Hawks' Friday starter, was named second team All-MEAC along with Turlik.
• UMES returns nine letterwinners from a season ago, including six position players and two starters. The Hawks also added 13 players, including five new pitchers.
• Maryland Eastern Shore was selected to finish fourth in the Northern Division and eighth overall of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Alabama returns junior shortstop Mikey White. White was recently named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. After losing Ben Moore, Austen Smith and Wade Wass to the MLB, White returns as the team's leading hitter. He hit .300 last season with seven home runs and 33 RBI.

“Mikey has been really consistent since day one,” Gaspard said. “He’s one of the few guys that has played primarily every inning since he stepped on campus. We expect a lot out of Mikey, and he expects a lot out of himself as well. I see him this year as a middle of the lineup hitter, and a guy that’s going to be one of the faces of our program.”

White is part of a group of returning position players this season along with outfielder Georgie Salem, second baseman Kyle Overstreet, utility player Casey Hughston and infielder Chance Vincent.

“I think this is a really talented group,” White said. “We’ve got some young guys that will helps us out a lot. As a team, we’re kind of growing into veterans. I think this will be a really fun group to watch, and a really good group to play with.”

The expected starting pitcher for Friday’s season opener is left-hander Taylor Guilbeau. He only made one start all of last year but it was a complete game win against Kennesaw State in the NCAA Regional. Right-handed junior college transfer Will Carter is expected to start Saturday’s game, and right-hander Geoffrey Bramblett will start on Sunday.

Alabama’s home opener Friday is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start. Saturday’s game will start at 2:05 p.m. while Sunday’s game has first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m.

Found this in an article on The Crimson White. I think it is good if Guilbeau can be our Friday night guy. Having a senior there would be nice. With Eicholtz not mentioned hopefully he can be our midweek guy again.
Just saw the SEC coaches predicted us to finish 2nd in the west behind LSU. Vanderbilt picked to win east. I don't think it will happen, but would love it to. Here's a link to the complete rankings. Kyle Overstreet made the first team and Burrows made second team.
We are ranked 20th by D1Baseball.com, 28th in the NCBWA poll, and 27th in the USA Today poll. It does not matter much in the pre-season, but it is nice to be recognized.
No problem. I enjoy doing it. I am concerned about the offense. We will have to play more small ball this year in Hoover but we still need to have some power in the lineup. Hughston and Haynie have some power but Haynie really struggled at the plate last year. I am interested to see who leads off this year. Salem, White, and Blanchard have all tried it before. I would like to see Salem there so White can hit third, but that's just my opinion.

Official 2015 Alabama Baseball Thread

Posted by bexie2013 on 2/11/15 at 7:21 pm
The 2015 Alabama baseball team debuts tonight in Hoover when they play Maryland Eastern Shore in the first game of a three game series. Head Coach Mitch Gaspard is entering his 6th year at Alabama where he has a record of 162-130. The strength of this years team looks to be the bullpen lead by ace closer sophomore Thomas Burrows. In contrast, the biggest question mark is the starting pitching. Alabama lost all three weekend starters from last years team with Spencer Turnbull and Justin Kamplain being drafted and Jon Keller out with an injury. Gaspard announced that the four starters for this years team are Taylor Guilbeau, Geoffrey Bramblett, Will Carter, and Nick Eicholtz, but did not give an order. Alabama returns six starters in the field lead by star shortstop Mikey White. Alabama will play all of its home games in Hoover this year while their new stadium is being built. I think right now expectations are for Alabama to be competitive in the SEC and probably be a 2 seed in a regional, but hopefully we can put ourselves in a position to host a regional.

I am planning on starting a season thread tonight for baseball. Can't wait for the season to start :nana: :nana: :nana:
Does someone have a schedule for when players are announcing tomorrow? And who do y'all think we finish with?

 He is my second favorite current player(second to Cooper). Where do you get he is not a leader? I thought of him as one of the captains of the team. And on the talent side the kid is great. But its just my opinion like you have your opinion.

Prediction: Arkansas 28, Alabama 24
 Sorry but that is ridiculous. I know Arkansas is very much improved and I think they are a quality team but I don't think they can beat us.
Alabama 31
Arkansas 13

Anybody know who the sideline reporter is for the game?
When will the depth chart be released?
quote:

Lee seems to be out of the doghouse for now, so expect him to start at Sam. Ragland took the lead for the Will job in the Spring, but expect a rotation with Reuben Foster.
I assume DePriest will have a good year but if some other guys can step up(hopefully 2 out of Ragland, Lee and Devall) and have a great year, our linebacker group is going to be sick.
What are people thinking about LB? I know DePriest and Devall will start and then Foster, Ragland, Dickson , Lee ,and Anderson are possibilities. I think Lee and Foster in the other 2 spots. Anybody smarter than me want to tell me what is likely to happen?

--Sophomore cornerback Eddie Jackson went through his second straight practice. This is significant because it shows Jackson is progressing and didn’t have any setbacks after the contact on Friday.
I would love to have him ready for WVU.
