I know my QB views are pretty unpopular around here, but this is interesting.

Saban has NEVER utilized his backup QB at Alabama like he's using Tua. In the past he hardly ever used the backup until the game was far out of reach, and we could just hand the ball off on auto-pilot.
Last week, Saban used Tua in the 2nd quarter, and then had significant playing time at the end, throwing big passes.

This week, Saban was visibly pissed about the Tua question at the press conference which tells me that Tua is being factored into the gameplan for this week as well.

My point being that Saban has never planned to use the backup QB until this year, and many fans have complained about it. This is the first time Saban is actually putting the backup QB in the gameplan.

Is it possible that Saban is bringing Tua along to where we can have a 2QB system later in the year?

Possible but doubtful. Saban said before the season started that Tua would be getting some reps early in the season so he'll be better prepared if Jalen gets injured.

I think with Saban putting Tua in early was to get him some real game experience with the 1's. The reason being is that we don't have anyone else on the roster with game experience unlike other seasons. Heaven forbid something happens to Hurts, a true fresh with no real game time would be a disaster in a big game.

Hurts is a true Sophomore and behind him are 2 true Freshmen. Tua is getting reps so he's ready to play if need be, and with as often as Jalen runs he's more likely to get injured than a guy like GMAC or AJ.

Saban put Tua in to give him some experience with the ones in case Hurts is injured.

Anyone that believes Saban wants a 2 QB system should never be taken seriously again.

No, it's really not.

We have, to utilize capitalization in the same vein you have, NEVER had a QB depth chart consisting of a Sophomore and 2 true Freshman. He's preparing Tua to not be a deer in the headlights in case Jalen gets injured. Nothing more.

He was pissed because the question was downright stupid. Nothing more.

I wasn't aware you had insight into the inner workings of our gameday prep.

My personal opinion is that Saban is trying to get Tua up to the point where if our offense looks as flat as it did against FSU again, at some point down the line, he can trot Tua out there for a few series and see what happens.

The obvious answer is to get the backup experience, but he's never really done that before - at least not to this extent. It might be the case that Tua gets even more meaningful snaps this week. I guess we'll see

Also Saban put Tua in when Jalen led four consecutive touchdown drives without much opposition, recording two scores on the ground and 1 through the air.

Yes it was the 2nd quarter, but that doesn't matter. The offense was running on all cylinders, so why not give the freshmen a chance.

Also to your point that Saban has never done this before, he's done this every single year we have a backup QB. Hell most teams do it against cupcakes.

Here's a list:

2015 Cooper Batemen threw 52 times throughout the year
2014 Jake Coker threw 59 times throughout the year
2013 Blake Sims threw 29 times throughout the year
2012 Blake Sims threw 10 times, Ran 30
2011 Phillip Sims threw 29 times throughout the year
2010 AJ McCarron threw 48 times throughout the year

And Tua is on pace for about 50 throws, all likely in garbage time unless injury.

Personally, I thought Saban put him in with the 1's just to show his actual progress and make everyone shut up about Jalen.

And it seems like it worked for the most part.

When your 1st string runs as much as Jalen does it is probably good to get your 2nd string reps.

The reason he is doing it is real simple. We have never had a situation where our back up QB has absolutely no game experience and did not have multiple years of practice experience. He has to do this because he is one play away. I will tell you 2 other facts that I believe to be 100 percent true. One is, had either of the three QB's who transferred not transferred, they would be the back up, and Tua would be red shirting. Secondly, Tua will start his first game at Alabama when one of the following occur, Jalen becomes injured and can not start the game, or Jalen exhausts his eligibility. If you are thinking otherwise you will be gravely disappointed.
