Buffalo pantsed a more talented Arizona, who had #1 pick.

4 stars maybe. Going all five star is recipe for turnover.

And then lost by 20 to UK in the next game.

Give me Oats and all the talent we can get.

This. If we were still in the pre-portal era I'd be in favor of focusing our recruiting efforts on guys who will be here for 3-4 years and develop into battle hardened vets, but that world doesn't exist anymore. You can't expect guys to stick around for more than a year or two. Get the most talent you can and worry about the rest later.

I see plenty if folks staying at a program for 4 years. Edey at Purdue. UNC with their roster, Timmerman at Gonzaga, etc.

A handful of good players staying with the same team for 4 years is not something to base a recruiting strategy on. The overwhelming majority of players who don't declare early for the draft transfer at least once in their careers now. Also, none of the players you mentioned were developed from end of the bench freshmen into upperclassman stars. They were all instant impact guys who were major rotation pieces if not full time starters as freshmen.

Yea I'm gonna vote for the strategy of wanting the guys that Oats wants. And that appears to be these guys.

You're right about most of them. Edey fits that bill though. 3-star started only 2 games as a freshman. He contributed but he wasn't instant impact by any means.

Yes he was. Edey averaged 9 & 4 plus 1 block in 15 minutes per game as a freshman.

It's why you see Hodgson landing the highest rated recruit ever at Arkansas St. Before, a #150 guy would sit a couple years at a high major before getting meaningful playing time, maybe even taking a redshirt. But as you said, because of the portal, teams aren't pursuing those kinds of kids.

Not to speak badly about Josh Hill. But look at where he took his official visits. It was Arky St, George Mason, and another small school. Guys don't want to take the risk of developing a kid, just for them to leave before contributing.

Still feel good about Reid?

Some funny business going on behind the scenes, but I still have reason to keep my pick. Don’t change them either way.

Genuinely don't understand why it's even a decision. The NIL has to be at least comparable. And he'll get drafted higher out of Bama than UGA. Oh and actually get to play in the Tourney.

I have no inside sauces, but from everything I have read Reid and Newell are apparently pretty close and wanted to play in college together. Newell has decided to spend a year chucking for the garbage hometown team to make his family happy and it has fricked things up a bit for us with Reid. Now we're trying to fix that.

I just honestly cannot figure out how a couple of top 15 players can look at Mike White's coaching CV and think "yeah, this is my path to the NBA." He has had two players drafted. Ever. We had two go first round just a few months ago. I mean we all literally just saw what a disaster chucking for an awful team was for GG Jackson's draft stock. If they wanted to play together there are dozens of better programs whose coaches would have cut off a leg to sign them.

This is what was said about Reid and Sherrell as well.

Jarace Walker and Jaden Bradley too and countless others that didnt end up playing together.

If we dont get Reid it will probably be because he had a better NIl offer at Georgia but him being such a priority I don’t see that happening, I think we match whatever they offered. This is a tough one to read I dont think anyone outside of his circle knows for sure where he is going. Our staff feels good I know that. I’d put it at a 65% chance we land him.

I believe this is what is happening. Along with some posturing from Reid to leverage a little more NIL money

Newell went to Georgia because his brother plays there. His family wanted him and his brother to play together so they dont have to go to two different schools games all the time ect. We made it about as close as possible though.

Reid postponed his commitment due to "family circumstances".
