I just mean he may not be on that list, but we were recruiting him hard before he committed to Auburn, so I suspect we will recruit him hard again because he is good. I understand Flanagan was recruiting him to Auburn, and he is now at Ole Miss, but losing all our assistants, especially Pettway, had something to do with Auburn winning that battle a few weeks ago.

I can't help but laugh that Torvik immediately removed Walton from our roster, but still has Miles.
But he's got us ranked at 13, which a 4 seed feels about right. Here's where we are with Quinerly returning...
I wish we could land BJ Mack. Because if we got him and kept Quinerly, then damn....
And got fun, if we added Mack but Quinerly stayed in the draft...

id like to see Sherrell hit the boards harder. I see guards averaging more rebounds than he does.

He committed to Auburn when we were 19-3 and undefeated in conference play - well over a month before we lost our first assistant. I also find it hard to believe that a program like California would get mentioned over the main in state program. Maybe we have (or will) made contact again, but I don't really see why considering how many guards we have and what our actual needs are right now.

He averaged 18/9 as a junior for a prep team full of D1 talent that plays against other prep teams full of D1 talent.

Yeah the Philon ship sailed a long time ago. Doesn't really seem like there was ever any serious mutual interest there, or if there was it faded. He's a 2024 guy though, and we need an elite prep guard in that class since we are going to roll out a backcourt of nothing but seniors next season.

Yeah, I just sent him a message to remove Miles and RJ Johnson from his projections. Wonder how long that will take?

That's right, got a little ahead myself there.

Boogie Fland is probably our #1 want for that, but landing him won't be easy. We recently made contact and offered Dedan Thomas from Nevada. He's the #4 PG per the 247C, but no idea yet what his interest level is. Jase Richardson is another CG we've been recruiting and is probably the third highest rated guy we've been linked to that could potentially fill that role.

UAA Session I: Four-star wing Chase McCarty updates his recruitment
Chase McCarty was sidelined throughout a couple of games during the first live period weekend due to having a concussion but he remains one of the more highly-rated prospects on the Under Armour Circuit. Dating back to last summer, McCarty has been on over a handful of visits. He already has completed two official visits to Houston and Ole Miss and is in the process of scheduling more.
"I really loved the two official visits that I did take," McCarty said. "They were both great. I am looking to plan more official visits but I cannot say where yet."
A 6-foot-5 sturdy and skilled wing out of Huntsville (Ala.) McCarty says Alabama, Gonzaga, Houston, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are coming at him the hardest. He discussed his latest thoughts on each progran with 247Sports:
Alabama: "One of the new coaches watched me worked out and he said he liked my game. It was my first time meeting him so he wants to build a relationship. I have been on their campus about four or five times and it feels like home."
Gonzaga: "Roger Powell was recruiting me the hardest from there but he left and went to Valparaiso. Their staff is still recruiting me and one of their coaches was here to watch me."
Houston: "Quannas White was here to watch me play. They talk to me basically every day. They check up on me. They pitch their home feel and family environment. It is all love out there too."
Notre Dame: "The staff has been great. They talk to me in the same way the old staff did when they were there. They still want me to come. It has been all love from them."
Tennessee: "The coaching staff is my favorite. The home feel and the way they play all sticks out to me. They had a pretty good team this year and could have made a deeper run in the tournament. I really loved the home feel when I was there for my visit."
The next step for McCarty will be dwindling his list of options down to a select few that he will be able to lock in on. When asked if he has a timeframe for a list cut, McCarty says he does not have a set date in mind but it will be some time soon.
Rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, McCarty is ranked No. 72 overall in the 2024 Top150 Player Rankings.

I'm not sure why they bother measuring basketball players in socks or barefoot. It's kind of pointless.
That brings up an interesting concept — what's the single-most significant physical measureable for a basketball recruit?
Height is obviously the most discussed, but it almost seems to me like standing reach or vertical leap would be more critical, or maybe even wingspan if you're primarily a rim protector.
In other words, head height doesn't seem to be as important as hand or fingertip height IMO, but that seems to be all we really ever see reported.
I guess it's all technically related, but there are some 6'9" guys who can barely get off the ground (cough cough Alex Reese).

Expenditures on men and women's basketball.
I doubt we're on that chart.
