Sears will be back. Same with Chuck and Q. No reason not to get feedback.

Apparently deleted because it’s not suppose to leak yet. Done deal, though. Roy Rodgers is the other name. This is all according to BOL.
That's two hires if theyre right, I like both. Still have to hire a 3rd assistant.

I wonder when Preston Murphys two years show clause is up? Looks like it was handed down in June of 2021 but he resigned from Creighton in 2019 and hasn't coached since then.

He got a 2 year show cause right? So I’m assuming it would be up this June.

Teams hiring new coaches want to grab guys from the better teams in the country, Oats' system is not only a big draw because of his success but also because of how much the players love playing in that kind of system, so easier to recruit.
It's widely known Pettway was overdue for a HC job but wanted to stay in the region, Atlanta is a perfect fit for him. I don't remember much about Henry and Hodg from previous off-seasons but Henry was highly coveted for helping run the defense and I think Hodg was in the running the last time the Buffalo job was open. Just bad timing all three are gone at once.
I think you're looking at this more from a football coaching circus angle than basketball. Getting a HC job somewhere is the big ticket and then you work your way up program tier to program tier. Example, I don't think Mo Williams would leave being the HC of Jackson St to be an assistant here.

Yeah I guess, not sure what exact date it was handed down but most articles about it are from late June 2021.
Ideally we would be able to hire him before Late June since we need a good recruiter on staff but we’ll see.

Denver Jones committed to Auburn as expected. He should be able to start there from day 1.

NCAA has hit former Creighton assistant Preston Murphy with a 2-year show cause. There was no proof he kept any money. In fact, Christian Dawkins said Murphy didn’t keep the money, Murphy also passed a lie detector test, and handed over bank records, cell phones, credit report
Brian Bowen’s dad also testified that Murphy offered him 100,000 and a job if Bowen signed with Creighton.

Roy Rogers, Preston Murphy, and Austin Claunch (Nicholls State HC). Hell of a job by Nate. You could argue 2 of the 3 took what many would consider a demotion to coach here. Impressive.

Claunch would be a great hire.

People were thinking Claunch was gonna get a better HC job at a Bigger Mid Major. Nice hire. He probably sees this route as his quickest to be a P6 HC

So any idea on recruiting strengths?
Posted on 4/8/23 at 3:15 pm to RollTide4Ever
Claunch is a great offensive coach his teams regularly score over 100 points. They scored 90 on Purdue.

I’m only reading positive things about Claunch. Looks like it’d be a very nice hire both with coaching acumen and recruiting.

Clearly Claunch must agree with me about P6 assistant vs. low D1 head coach if he takes the job. It’s not as cut and dry regarding taking a head coaching job as you all keep trying to make it out to be. Of course most schools want guys with head coaching experience, it’s that way in literally any sport. The decision is always whether to hire an up & coming assistant or a HC at a smaller school (or retread).
I’m actually more of a basketball guy than a football guy…almost never post or even read the football board. I just don’t see us losing all 3 of our assistants to low D1 schools as 100% positive as apparently the rest of the board does. Probabilities alone would suggest it’s high likely they will make less money for 3-7 yrs, spend less time with their family, and get canned when they don’t win their conference. Hope it doesn’t happen and at least they’ll be able to check the box of HC experience wherever they go next.

Pretty good looking staff on paper. A bag man, a guy with proven college coaching chops and HC experience, and an alum with 2 decades of G-League/NBA coaching experience.

Wonder who will be responsible for defense?
Posted on 4/8/23 at 3:55 pm to BamaBravesPackers
Coaching in the Southland and coaching the Sun Belt/ ASUN are different universes imo. I think all our previous 3 assistants made smart moves. Had they left for a Southland / SWAC level job I would’ve said that’s a bad decision.
Damn I said I wouldn’t respond on this again
