I was more concerned that Q would leave and Bradley would be our point guard. Hopefully Oats will start looking for another player than can play the point. The point guard takes some hits every game with all the picks at the top of the key.

IMO he just didn’t fit our system. Have to be able to score some

He never was. Wish him the best. I think he will be a really good one once his shot develops. This will be one that will hurt in a year or two.

It's time for the Quinerly era to end. Watch what you wish for. He thinks he's a 6'5 shooting guard but everytime he drives for a lay-up he gets reminded that he's barely 6'1. Oats must've committed a NCAA infraction when he got Quinerly. I can't understand his obsess with JQ. All he does is search the internet and sees what people say about him and whine. The guy(supposed leader) literally took a guys legs from under him in one of the biggest games of the year. Not to mention his actions that could have cost us in the SEC Tournament. Good Riddance!

Man I remember suggesting Bradley would be in the portal just a couple weeks ago and got downvoted into oblivion.
This isn't surprising at all. These kids have egos so sitting around and waiting on JQ to make his decision wasn't going to go well.
Bradley will do well in a system that is more of a fit for him.

I have a feeling 12 months from now we're going to be kicking ourselves over this one.
If he wants a bigger role for next year, it's certainly not a guarantee unless he put in the work this offseason to improve his offensive game. When the book came out on him, he was pretty useless on that side of the court and we saw how his role diminished deeper into the season.
Will be intriguing to see who we pull from the portal now with so many minutes available.
ETA: Downvoters tell me where I'm wrong.

The next Jared Butler? We could only be so lucky...

Currently sitting with 3 open spots correct?

He could always come back if JQ decides to leave. Best to go on and put him name in the portal and see what his options are.

I agree. We have lost a shitload of talent off last years team. Now maybe we have a couple of transfers lined up that haven’t been announced yet. But we are going to have to have guys that can come in and put numbers up.

I think at this point everyone just has to accept that we don't really know what is good and bad in the whole portal process.
Some guys leave and the staff wants them to stay, some leave and they don't, some leave and the staff is probably not happy but feels ok filling the spot.
Some transfers coming in were the #1 choice. Some were because a body was needed. Some are risks based on how you think they'll fit. Some are for very specific needs and nobody else would see it as a great add but the staff who knows.
We just aren't going to know this sort of stuff until the season plays out. It's not something a transfer portal ranking can tell you and a lot of times not something you can really know yourself unless you really, really know the inner workings of the program. Is what it is, and it's why the 4 teams in the Final Four were a preseason unranked UConn, Miami, San Diego State and Florida Atlantic. It really does just require trust in your program, staff and their ability to identify players who fit and put together a well oiled machine using a whole bunch of new pieces almost every single year.

I saw something like 17 of the 20 starters on the final 4 teams were on those same teams last year,
so still seems ideal to try to keep players who have experience in your system.
Its been done both ways though, Texas Tech made a deep run a few years ago with basically 5 new starters all from the portal.

It makes the off-season a lot more intriguing. Not sure why I keep up with recruiting though because no one is going to stay in a program for multiple years so there’s no point in really getting attached to freshmen.

Sure, but that's only going to happen if you have a green team one year and none of those guys go to the NBA. We're losing 2 starters to the NBA (and probably returning the other 3).
That next wave of guys is where all the movement tends to happen - especially from the Power 5 level. A guy who isn't sure he's gonna start, a guy who wants to bump up to a starters minute role, a guy who maybe didn't have a great 1st year for whatever reason. Not many power 5 team returning 2-3 veteran bench guys anymore, unless they basically play equal type minutes to starters.
I do think having a handful of veteran leaders who have run your system and played in your league for 1-2 years to kind of anchor things is a pretty big deal. Hopefully we have those (Bediako, JQ, Sears) and we can supplement them with guys who have similar experience elsewhere.

I'm a little disappointed in the Bradley transfer. I think he'll be a monster next season. It seems pretty obvious that being thrust into national controversy was a problem for him.
I'll feel a lot better about it if we land Menifield though.
Right before Bradley's announcement the Whittle dude put out an elephant emoji which happened right before Walton committed. It could be a coincidence that Bradley entered the portal right afterwards, or it could be Menifield.
Whittle has also been beating the drum on us being after Ware.

I am too. I don't know if he'll piece it all together, but watching him shoot pre-game and shoot free throws you can see he has a nice shot - the type of shot that we've turned into a solid 3P shooter before. Combine that with the driving abilities he showed when he was playing with confidence and you can see the makings of a really solid veteran point guard by the tail end of next year and his JR/SR years.
But that sort of 2 year plan doesn't seem to really exist in the transfer portal era.
