KADEN COOPER NEARING DECISION

While he’s yet to set a specific announcement date, four-star wing Kaden Cooper said he plans to announce his decision “sometime in October.” Asked which schools he feels are in the thick of the hunt, Cooper rattled off a short list that will surprise nobody that has followed his recruitment, but will serve as a de facto list of finalists nevertheless.

“I’d say it’s Alabama, Gonzaga, Oklahoma and Kansas,” Cooper said on Saturday.

The No. 34 prospect 2023 Rivals150, Cooper has already visited each of the four schools still in the running. He toured Oklahoma and Gonzaga early in the summer and visited Alabama and Kansas in the past month. Cooper plans to take no additional visits and will simply reflect on his options before choosing a school later this month. Cooper's final official visit was to Tuscaloosa, which seems to have left an impression, as the Tide are now viewed as one of the heavy front-runners to land the Oklahoma-based standout’s pledge.

“I loved what I saw there at ‘Bama,” Cooper said, “They really have a lot of size and they play fast for their size. I like their development program and I like Coach [Nate] Oats’ play style. He plays really fast and runs a lot of pro action.”

This type of setting is where Kaden Cooper really shines. For my money, Cooper was the most explosively athletic player in attendance, and he let that shine at every opportunity. While the dunks were impressive, his shooting looks improved. Cooper knocked down multiple catch-and-shoot threes and some nice two-dibble pull-ups going left. The 6-foot-5 wing is still uncommitted but will look to have a decision later this month.

Sam Walters continues to make a difference at these national events. The 6-foot-9 forward is very skilled. He has great length and ball skills to push the break. He also made the majority of the threes he took on the weekend. Walters is a connective player who fits perfectly with the up-tempo style Nate Oats has at Alabama.

Bossi: Each time I see Alabama bound Sam Walters, he really grows on me. He definitely needs to get stronger and his impact on the college level may not be felt immediately, but he keeps getting better and has some real tools. Pushing 6-foot-9, Walters is looking more and more like a dangerous option to stretch the floor as a jump shooter but what stands out more is what he could be as a fluid mover. He glides around the floor, finishes lobs and really caught my attention with how quickly he can get off the floor multiple times around the rim while competing for rebounds. I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops throughout the season.

Jenkins: After blowing up in July, Davin Cosby showed no signs of slowing down now that he is spoken for on the recruiting scene. The Roll Tide pledge was one of the best in the camp at stroking the long-range jumper. A scoring threat from behind the arc with a good basketball IQ and plenty of game to support his jumper, Crosby drove late closeouts with a purpose and gave defenders all they could handle in island situations. One of the better shot makers in attendance, Cosby should continue to climb as we gear towards the high school season.
