Part of me feels bad for him. If posts that are not related to the title of a message board thread set you off like that there are obviously some very deep seeded personal issues present. People who are that prone to anal retentive/OCD type behavior experience pretty constant anxiety when they are in any kind of public space that doesn't allow them to control what goes on around them, but it's still not OK to get angry at other people in those public spaces when they do things that don't conform with your own personal need for order.

Not sure we ever really went after him, but he’s Memphis bound.

I was at that game and you are right about the refereeing. Most fouls were against us but worst call was against them. benson had been hooking down low for the entire game but not called. Then with under two minutes to play they call him for it for his fourth foul. I was delighted. That was the best played heart breaker of a game I have seen.

Gotcha...
Last week, the Alabama Crimson Tide added the second commitment to their 2023 class in Huntsville (Al.) Grissom High’s R.J. Johnson. Johnson joins four-star power forward Sam Walters in a class that still has some important holes left to fill.

BamaInsider took a look at a few of the priority targets remaining on Alabama’s board and what’s next between them and the Crimson Tide. Afterward, be sure to join the conversation on the Talk of Champions message board!

SG Davin Cosby
Alabama has made progress with Davin Cosby over the past few weeks.

After extending an offer to him in early July, the Crimson Tide earned a spot in Cosby’s top seven just over a week ago. The other finalists for the Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God Christian Academy shooting guard are Auburn, LSU, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

To add to this, the coaching staff will get a chance to host Cosby on campus for an official visit this week. Cosby is slated to arrive in Tuscaloosa on Thursday night and will stay until Saturday.

Cosby, who just wrapped up an official visit to Virginia, told BamaInsider a few days ago that Wake Forest had the slight edge in his recruitment. He admitted, however, that this was a result of him visiting the school a few weeks ago and the Demon Deacons being the first official he’s used.

During that conversation, Cosby listed Alabama and Tennessee as the other schools high in the mix for him. Cosby cited the pursuit of Antoine Pettway and Nate Oats, as well as Bama’s style of play, when detailing why the Tide are a contender for him.

“I was looking at the stats,” Cosby recently told us. “They love three-point shooters in transition. They wouldn’t mind the three-point shot. Moving the ball, shooting open shots, coming off ball screens, and making one more pass. It’s a system that loves to shoot threes. That’s what I do. I knock them down.”

We believe the Crimson Tide have a legitimate shot here, and could very well secure the top spot in his recruitment if they knock his official visit out of the park this week. Cosby intends on making a decision sometime in late October or early November.

BamaInsider will catch up with Cosby this weekend for a full visit recap. Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, Cosby is the No. 95 overall player in this recruiting cycle and the No. 21 shooting guard.

SG Kris Parker
Another shooting guard who Oats and Company will play host to for an official visit in September is Kris Parker. Parker, a product of Quincy (Fla.) Crossroad Academy, will take an official to Alabama starting on Sept. 17.

Parker has already visited Florida State, and intends on getting out to Illinois, Georgia, and other programs. He also has a contract from the Australian National Basketball League, though this is an avenue that he and his family are still gathering more information about.

The preference for Parker is to play college basketball at the next level.

The 2023 On3 Consensus tabs Parker as the No. 87 overall prospect in the country and the No. 18 shooting guard. His On3 scouting report went into detail about what the 6-foot-6, 170-pounder brings to the table.

“Kris Parker is a long and rangy wing,” the report reads. “He has confidence on the ball in the half-court, and his ability as a shotmaker continues to rise. He will need to continue adding strength and overall sharpening his tools and shot selection. There is a lot of natural talent here… there is an upside still to go, and the intrigue lies with the fact he continues to get better a little better each time out.”

SF Kaden Cooper
September will be an important month for the Crimson Tide. Along with getting Cosby and Parker on campus, they’ll also roll out the red carpet for top-50 senior prospect Kaden Cooper.

The Oklahoma native, who was a recipient of an offer from Bryan Hodgson on June 15, has reciprocated interest in Alabama. Several weeks after getting the green light, he would go on to include the program in his top 10 at the end of July.

Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas also landed on Cooper’s list.

First reported by 247HSHoops on Twitter and later confirmed by On3’s Joe Tipton, Cooper will be in Tuscaloosa for an official visit from Sept. 22-24. Cooper, who has already officially visited Gonzaga and Oklahoma, will also take officials to Kansas (Sept. 1-3) and LSU (Sept. 8-10).

Cooper would be a significant win for the Crimson Tide in this recruiting cycle. Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, he is the No. 41 player overall and the seventh-ranked small forward in the country.

SF Mouhamed Dioubate
It did not take long for Mouhamed Dioubate to know that Alabama is a school of high interest in his recruitment.

Dioubate collected an offer from the Crimson Tide on Aug. 15 and then, just three days later, ended up including them in his top five. Kansas State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest are the other finalists for the Flushing (N.Y.) Putnam Science Academy recruit.

He’ll take an official visit to Wake Forest starting Thursday, but it’s not yet known when Dioubate will make his way out to Tuscaloosa.

Over the summer, Dioubate averaged 13.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game for the PSA Cardinals (N.Y.) on the EYBL Circuit. He also shot 54 percent from the field.

The On3 Consensus labels him the No. 100 overall prospect in this class as well as the No. 20 small forward.

SF Jaylin Stewart
The last prospect who we will quickly note is Jaylin Stewart out of Seattle (Wash.) Garfield.

Stewart is a target we’re still gathering more intel on as Alabama just extended an offer to him on Aug. 17. Head coach Nate Oats was the one who delivered the good news to him.

Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, Stewart is the No. 82 overall prospect in the nation. He also checks in as the No. 16 small forward and the top-ranked player in the state of Washington.

In the Nike EYBL: Peach Jam event in late July, Stewart earned second-team honors following some strong performances. He averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.

Stewart, who is officially visiting UConn from Sept. 9-11, will be one to monitor going forward following his recent offer from the Crimson Tide.

As frustrating as the NIL issue is, I do think that going forward our staff probably needs to cast a wider net for the top 100 guys. We haven't had to do that, as we've been able to land a lot of the top guys we went after, so it's understandable that we have a lot of these last minute offers going out this cycle. Having said that, if we want a realistic shot at these top 100 guys that we might want, we probably should throw out an offer earlier than August.

Getting to Know: Noah Clowney

It didn’t take Noah Clowney long to know Alabama was the school he wanted to attend. He was offered on October 23rd, and he committed to Alabama just 9 days later while holding several high major offers. Clowney then signed with Alabama 9 days after that in the early signing period to make it official.

Clowney is from South Carolina and held offers from Indiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Xavier, but he loved the chemistry he had with the staff at Alabama the most. While he is a top 100 prospect, he is still a diamond in the rough kind of player. If he reaches his potential, he is a potential NBA Draft pick with his size, skill, and versatility as a big man.

Clowney is a 6’9 (closer to 6’10) 210 lb PF/C who was the #71 ranked recruit according to Rivals in the 2022 class. He is a long, athletic stretch forward that is mobile and has great footwork and good hands for a big guy. Clowney is a good athlete and has really nice right-handed jump hook in the paint that he used a lot in AAU and high school. He is the prototypical pick and pop big man that coach Nate Oats loves to put on the floor. He will be like Gurley once he gets time to develop his outside game in the sense that he can pop off a screen and shoot the three.

One thing that is impressive about Clowney at his size is he can dribble the ball well, and he has a very quick first step. That will allow him to play around the perimeter on screen and rolls, but also handle the ball well enough to make moves in the paint.

In his first action with Alabama during the foreign tour earlier this month, Clowney showed the upside that everyone was hoping to see. He was flying to the basketball, having highlight dunks, and even showed some defensive promise. He averaged 14 points per game in three games overseas, including a 24-point 11-rebound game that was quite impressive. While it was weaker competition, outside of the Chinese National Team, it was very encouraging to see him step up and fill a void in the front court that Alabama has behind Charles Bediako and Noah Gurley.

One area that Clowney needs to improve is his size. He is long and lanky, but if he is going to play in the paint in a high major conference then he must get bigger and stronger to hold his own. As I mentioned in my previous Brandon Miller article, most high schoolers need to get stronger to adjust to the college game, especially at a power 5 school. If he can gain some mass and strength, he will develop into a good rim protector as well.

Noah Clowney oozes potential and has tremendous upside, which is why he is a great get for the Alabama staff. He is a potential X-factor for the Tide this year, because if he becomes a big contributor then this team just got even more dangerous.

One month closer to Bama basketball, fellas.

If any athletic trainer is reading this, please add extra tape to the lower extremities for the next 60 days.

Scouting Kaden Cooper

Kaden Cooper is one of the most physically gifted athletes in the national class of 2023.

Currently ranked No. 57 in the Top247, he holds four-star status in the 247Sports Composite and is being recruited by some of the most notable college basketball programs in the country.

Cooper took an official visit to Gonzaga in June and will take his second official visit to Kansas this weekend with subsequent trips to LSU and Alabama scheduled for later in the month.

I was able to evaluate him live in three different settings in recent months – the 3SSB South Carolina session in April, the 3SSB Championships and subsequent Adidas All-American Camp in July.

Full Scouting Report

Cooper is a long and athletic wing with broad shoulders and a cut-up frame that pops at first glance. This spring, he looked like one of the most rapidly emerging prospects in the country with a skill-set that was starting to catch-up with his physical gifts. His ascension seemed to slow down a bit this summer, but there are undeniably still immense tools and long-term potential. First, his body type translates to the very highest levels. He’s extremely long, an explosive leaper, and powerful throughout his lower body and core. He’s a threat to make big plays in transition and the type of explosive finishes that can immediately change the momentum of the game. He takes pride in the defensive end of the floor and has a chance to become one of the best overall defenders in the national class. His skill-set is a work in progress, but trending in the right direction. He shot only 29% from behind the three-point line in Adidas play, but has some long-term shooting potential as evidenced by his 73% at the free-throw line. Mechanically, he shoots an easy ball with just a little bit of a natural fade and left shoulder dip, that can impact his balance into his release. His handle is tight enough to make some combination moves at times, but his ability to put that together with a tough finish and overall ball security (34 assists vs. 50 turnovers) needs to keep improving. Finally, he must ensure that his motor is always running at full throttle in order to maximize his physical gifts, regardless of the stage or stakes of any specific game. Ultimately, while Cooper is older for his grade (he turned 18 in May), he’s nonetheless a prospect who has clear untapped potential and high long-term ceiling if he can continue to trend along the same path he established this year.
