Anthony Grant’s daughter
UD mourns death of basketball coach’s daughter
Obituary
Jayda Danielle Grant was born August 22, 2001 in Gainesville, FL. She was the fourth born of five children to Anthony and Christina Grant: AJ, Preston, Makai and her heavenly brother, Brandon Harrell (02/06/99). As the only girl, she was her mother’s “Mommi” and her Daddy’s “Baby Girl”. And to many of her friends she was “Jay”.
Jayda was an excellent student and blossomed into a creative writer. She attended primary school at Robious Elementary School (Virginia) and Holy Spirit Catholic (Alabama) where she began her love for reading. She attended Oklahoma Christian School in Oklahoma City where she played basketball and ran track. When the family relocated to Dayton, Jayda continued her love for running track at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School (Class of 2019) where she excelled in the 4x400, 200M and 400M races. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Dayton pursuing a degree in Psychology. Jayda enjoyed reading, writing, spending time with her dogs and connecting with friends. She had a strong passion for social justice issues, whether in the US or abroad. She advocated for marginalized communities including the LGBTQ+. Jayda had a heart of gold and a deep love for those she held dear.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Anthony and Christina Grant, her brothers, AJ, Preston and Makai; her grandmother Georgia Woods and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends in each community she touched.

A more athletic Riley Norris. Carl Engstrom with hand eye coordination. Tyler Barnes with scholarship worthy talent.

I was thinking Sam Haginas, but I’m dating myself a bit.

That’s awful. I saw one write up that discussed making contributions for a mental illness association so I fear she may have taken her own life.

Yeah he's a really good fit, I can see why it looked like we preferred him over that other kid that just committed elsewhere, Phillips I think?
I'm excited to see how he develops here.

Yeah it is, and if that's true they're all going to blame themselves for it even though there probably wasn't much they could have done. Things had really turned around for Grant over the last couple of years too. I hope he makes it through this as best he can, if that's even possible.

After the Herb Jones comparison, I went to his Twitter page in search for some more recent film (videos on YouTube I had seen were each over a year old), and he seems to move A LOT better now. Makes me wonder if he went through a big growth spurt 2 years or so ago and it took him some time to gain coordination. I'd still assume the comparison was more on the offensive end, but that's still a pretty big compliment. The fact that we likely won't have to wait 4 years for any promise of a jump shot to show up gives him a leg up in that regard, I'd think.

That explains our disagreement over his quality as a prospect. I was looking at his junior season hudl videos and he looked like a legit D1 athlete in those. Combine that with a nice looking shot and a handle that shows some part time point forward potential and I can definitely see why the staff would prioritize him.

On a serious note….he kind of reminds me of a shorter Chet Holmgreen. Very skilled but very skinny. He gotta put some weight on…unless the video I watched was old.
