The rest of our minutes are totally up in the air though, so all these off ball guards and wings we're trying to sign would be leaving a situation where they know where they stand for one where they don't

Not sure why a guy like Michael Jones wouldn't have a spot on the starting roster waiting for them if they came.
A high volume, high percentage 3pt guy is exactly what we need right now.

He likely would but it's not that, say, Miles and Griffin aren't talented and that Oats is going to tell a Jones you don't have to beat those guys out for minutes.

Oats doesn't really know what he has in Burnett, Miller, and Griffen, and it's entirely possible that things finally click with Miles, so he's not really in a position to tell a guy like Jones that he can expect to play X number of minutes. That makes portal recruiting more of a challenge. For a guy who only has one year of eligibility left a guarantee > a good opportunity.

Burnett tore his ACL 8 months ago and isn't doing 5 on 5 yet. They anticipate "some" live stuff by early August. That's 11 months

Q tore his ACL in March. 8 months from then is November. 11 months from then is February.

I just don't see it.

Everybody responds differently to rehab, but with Q’s game relying so much on cutting and explosive movement, I don’t see it either. I think you have to look at anything from Q as a bonus for next season.

11 month recovery on an ACL is longer than normal for an athlete.

I don't think there is a normal, and "return" is always subjective to how comfortable and return to previous form they are. Ronald Acuna is about as special an athlete as exists, and he was 10 months from tear to game return from July 2021 to May 2022.

I just find it hard to believe they are truly planning the season with an expectation that JQ is a key contributor starting in January.

Finally a little clarity on the roster situation, nothing really positive but we were starving over here. Also, If JD doesn’t get drafted some team will sign him as a gleague stash and hope he develops.

These last two spots man… we’re either gonna get some dogs like Oats wants, or more likely someone just happy to be here.

It wasn't that long ago that it was viewed as a 12+ month recovery. Some guys are freaks and come back in 8 months, but i'm not sure that means it's normal.

Yea - Robot is right, it's just a very unique and tough sell if you are being honest with guys (as Oats clearly is) given our roster situation.

I still think there will be options out there we can grab that give some unique and positive trait. But they may end up being more risky in terms of whether they can play in the SEC or whether they'll fit. We'll see.

247 just out out their final top 150 2022 rankings.

Nick Smith is the new #1.

Brandon Miller is #13.

Jaden Bradley is #24.

Rylan Griffen is #38.

Noah Clowney is #87.

All of our guys dropped 2 spots (due to other players moving around).

I think all of us (me for sure) are overlooking Griffen's possible contributions next season. Most other year and he's the #1 incoming player and we're all drooling over him.

Yep, I definitely can see Akot coming into the fold. Jones on the other hand, could start at Stanford and Northwestern and graduate with a prestigious degree and be set for life.

Especially if they aren't expecting Burnett to even start doing live 5v5 work until August. He should be past the point of having a recovery setback now, but you never know how his conditioning will come along.

College basketball recruiting news: 2022 class superlatives

Even with the explosion of the transfer portal, the best way to find a star talent is to win on the recruiting trail. And while some of those players will hit the ground running and immediately become some of the nation's best and most talented players, others have specific talents that will enable them to fill key roles on their respective teams.

So which players are the best at those roles? Who's the best shooter, the most clutch, the most fun to watch and the most loaded recruiting class for the Class of 2022? 247Sports set out to answer those questions.

When we've done these lists in the past, we've followed one major rule: a player can only be used in one category. So if a player were say, both the best rebounder and best shot-blocker in the class, we had to pick which category best fit that player, then use a second player to fill that category. The result is a fun glance at what some of the nation's most talented players will bring to the college court next season.

Here's a look at the best players in the 2022 class.

quote:

MR. OLD SCHOOL: JADEN BRADLEY, ALABAMA

Why Bradley for this spot? We’ll let the first two sentences of 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins tell the tale. “Bradley is more of a throwback, traditional point guard who looks to run the offense, get others involved, and move the ball. He has great size, knows how to manage a game, and always gets the ball to his teammates where they can be successful.” Make no mistake, Bradley can score if or when he needs to. But the No. 3 point guard and No. 24 overall player, according to 247Sports, makes his hay by distributing and playing more of a pass-first role. Make no mistake: players like that can help their teams win a lot of games.

We can only hope. Honestly as long as he doesn't turn the ball over 7 times a game on top of frequently displaying a complete lack of situational awareness I'll consider it a big win regardless of how many points he scores, what his shooting splits look like, or how well he plays defense.
