You say that like it’s a bad thing

Well, it is what it is. I’m not complaining about it. We know how to handle NIL as well as anybody else. Maybe Jay Wright was a bad example because I don’t know why he retired. Maybe Dabo complaining about the portal etc would be a better example. Successful coaches like Saban (and I think Pearl and Oats) adjust to “what it is.” Pearl is about 20 years older than Oats though. You think he will coach until 70?

Yeah I don’t disagree with any of that. The point of coaching basketball at this level is the financial incentive. I can’t fault Bruce for wanting to make as much money as possible

I worry about Oats being held back in recruiting because all of our booster money will most assuredly go to Footbaw recruits.

Pretty sure he's talking about coaches adapting to players getting paid, not coaches getting paid more and more every year.

Yeah that’s why I said I didn’t disagree with anything he said. I misunderstood his original post

Correct. I was talking about the new world of portal and NIL and the difference among coaches reacting to that. I think we are handling all that great, and as far as coaches salaries, I suspect Saban has contributed far more to Alabama fund raising than we pay him. I only mentioned Jay Wright because some media people have been suggesting that he decided to retire because he does not like the portal, NIL etc, but I don't know that. I hope he is in good health and at 60 has his eye on another career. I agree with Jeff Goodman (national guy) that I wish he would replace Greeberg on ESPN.

He needs to be hit with deer antler spray day and night so his return is closer to November and not the end of the season.

JQ is worth the risk. Either you get back an All-SEC player or he doesn’t recover but you still did the right thing and really didn’t hurt your depth because you already have 2 PGs

Kid is gonna be a 5 star when its all said and done, plays for Baker down in Mobile and Ive seen him play.

Can shoot, blow by you, dish it like any PG in the country, and is still growing. A lot of big boys are gonna come calling his name soon.

The SI write up

Alabama Guard Jahvon Quinerly to Return for 2022-23 Season

The point guard averaged nearly 14 points per game on last season's NCAA Tournament team.

I sure hope that it works out for him. Getting hurt that late in the season was such a bad thing

If he does come back in January like a lot of people are speculating, that still isn’t bad. Get him in time for the most important part of the season. I’m fine with bringing him back.
