Alabama Basketball's Newest Transfer Mark Sears Discusses Decision (SI)

The Muscle Shoals product and transfer from Ohio will look to make an immediate impact in Nate Oats' system, both on and off the court.

Just was curious how many guys fit what I thought might be a decent criteria for a wing/stretch 4 defender in the portal. Here were my criteria on Torvik

- Minimum Height - 6'4
- True Shooting % > 55%
- 3P% > 30%
- FT% > 75%
- Assist/Turnover Ratio > 1.0
- Steal % > 1.0
- Def Reb Rate > 10%
- Off Reb Rate > 5%
- 3P Attempts/100 possession > 5
- Def PRPG! > 2

2 Transfers in the entire portal fit these criteria

Still strange to me we didn't reach out to the Belmont kid, but you can see why we targeted Bridges from day 1. He fits our needs like a glove.

Even lowered a lot of the criteria and the list is still very slim

The only other guys who show up (all missed originally because of very low rebounding rates)

- Ben Vander Plas (Ohio)
- Landers Nolley II (Memphis)
- Terrence Shanon Jr (Texas Tech)
- Michael Jones (Davidson)

Another interesting one that includes another player we've targeted

Oquendo shot 67% at the rim and 27% in the mid-range

He, like Bridges, also causes a lot of havoc (steals, blocks, rebounds) without fouling. A huge plus.

Huge recruiting weekend for Kentucky. The Cats will host Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves (a 20 ppg bucket) and 6-foot-10 Canadian wing Leonard Miller, a late bloomer now ranked No. 11 overall in the Class of 2022 by On3. Both would be terrific additions.

Ugh.

Give me Q, Bridges, Oquendo, and we ride. Cal can have our sloppy seconds

Agreed - I'd be all in on that roster. Assuming the scholarships all work out. Q can work to be ready to go by mid-conference play and be the equivalent of a trade deadline addition with very little pressure and the ability to play on ball/off ball.

Golden is doing a nice job in the portal - they got some solid players who they will have for a couple of years in Fudge and the Belmont kid.

I think the Bradley kid has visited there too and he seems like a pretty quality player.

And he got Castleton to come back.

Wow. We recruited him before he went to UF.
