"I'm surprised at the luke-warm reaction to this news.

Bediako could be a four year starter for us. This is much preferable to a grad transfer.

Oats is rightfully building a program that will be strong for years to come."

If he's good enough to start for FOUR years but not to leave early for the draft, we aren't getting what we hope.

The hope is that he develops well enough to be here 2 years. He's not ready to be a one and done.

If Tchikou hasn’t recovered by the time the season starts I could possibly see Wilson at the 5 some. Hard for me to see him playing there much if Bediako and Tchikou are healthy.

I agree that Wilson could manage there if we needed him too, he is a really good shot blocker. He is pretty raw on offense himself, his first year playing organized basketball was last year. He wasn't able to play in HS because of a medical condition.

Ok, more importantly, how is Bediako pronounced?
I'm guessing Beh-DYE-eh-ko.

Frentchie is moving around pretty well right now. Its all about how quickly somebody heals. Bediako will provide instant rim protection next season. Baby Draymond needs to work on his shooting and ball handling skills. Wilson is just explosive and I think him and JD are going to be SICK TOGETHER! Keon Ambrose is going to be hard to deal with if he improves because he has a lot of tools to work with! JD is just like I said before "A Different Type Of Sandwich"...His outside shot needs to continue to get better though. The guy I'm most high on is Jusaun Holt...he can play when he is locked in. He needs to work on finishing through contact and ball handling but other than that he is good to go...Nate Oats & Company fixing to WRECK SHITE...Gotta develop the chemistry on & off the court though! The offense will be 10 plus points better in my honest opinion!

Well obviously he's not lying about it The fact that he didn't recruit him as a 5 doesn't mean we can't play him there though

We don't really play positions anyway, so I doubt we recruit any kids strictly for one role at one position.

Luka Garza fits this description and he won the Naismith this year.

The SI write up:

Alabama Basketball Adds Elite 2021 C Charles Bediako to Top-10 Recruiting Class

Bediako adds a post presence to the Crimson Tide as a stretch five who can defend the rim and shoot from the outside

Yeah I think positions matter more to us on defense than offense, but even then it's pretty variable depending on match up.

It's good to have options and different types of players. Wilson might struggle as a 5 versus a team like Michigan, whereas Bediako might struggle as a 5 versus a team like Maryland. Etc.

I'm also just really intrigued by Wilson. I'm assuming that he will be immediately one of our 2-3 best athletes (along with Davison).

If he is just decently skilled and can catch and pass and shoot at a reasonably competent rate, then he could give us a lot.

ETA: I think Oats will worry more about avoiding having 2-3 guys on the court at one time that can't space the floor than anything else.

Yeah I really like Wilson. His floor is probably what upperclassman Donta was for us. If he gives us anything in terms of facilitating or shooting that's just a bonus. He's made 31% of his 3s at his JuCo this season. Not fantastic or anything but not a disaster either. His FT shooting is pretty horrible though.

Wilson is much better than Bediako And Tchikou imo. At least at them moment. I think he will start no matter who is healthy. Or at least be the first off the bench.

Tchikou is the most intriguing story about the whole team to me.

If he's healthy and ready to go, he gives us a ton of options because his shooting from 3 looks much more "real" to me than Wilson or Bediako (or Gary).

If he can spread the floor on offense and defend the paint on defense, than you could play guys like Gary or Wilson next to him and not worry about them possibly struggling to shoot from 3 and space the floor.

And then you have Bediako to do different things (defend bigs, roll to the basket, etc.) and at that point it's basically close to irrelevant whether he can actually shoot (as a freshman).

"Luka Garza fits this description and he won the Naismith this year."

Fair enough except Luka was the 13th ranked center out of high school instead of the 2nd-4th (depending on recruiting service) and Luka wanted to stay four years. Partly, for this reason:

LINK

"According to NBA Draft Room, Garza is projected as a 'late first to mid-second round type of NBA prospect.' They attribute this to his lack of mobility and project him to being a role player off the bench in the NBA."

LINK

Now, if Bediako turns into Garza and wants to stay four years then great for us.

We are on the same page there. I love Tchikou's game. He reminds me of Siakam a bit. And yeah, because he has some wing skills and can space the floor it's easy to stick him out there with a more traditional big to create all kinds of matchup issues without having to sacrifice spacing.

Bediako doesn't suffer from being tall but not long and having zero lateral agility like Garza, but he could easily turn into a defense only role player who gets a ton of minutes but never really turns into much of a pro prospect. Basically the same situation as Garza but with the opposite skill set. Honestly I see him as a 2-3 year guy though. Defensively he's got a lot of traits the NBA loves (massive wingspan, light feet, etc.) with plenty of room for growth and development. If he displays any sort of offensive competency he will be all over 2023 or 2024 draft boards.

Just my opinion but I think Bediako is our version of Austin Wiley. Which Is fine and I will gladly take. As long as he plays great defense, rebounds, and finishes around the rim I will be content.

Alex Tchikou is the best basketball player on the planet and I will not be convinced otherwise.

I am lower than most in here on Wilson I guess and I watch about all their games on youtube.

I love his defense, and get the Herb comparison since is is the size of a forward and can guard about any position.

He has scored under 10 points in about half their games though. I love his athleticism and defense but I think he has a long was to go on offense.

Langston is a Donta Hall clone that can shoot&Dribble IMO

I'm high on Wilson as well, but I'm curious to ask: are you THAT high on Wilson or pretty underwhelmed with Hall?

His athleticism seems about the same as Hall's, but I doubt he has his hands (which were unbelievable) and wingspan. He very well could be better, but IMO Hall was a terrific 5 and would have been a monster in this system.

And Bediako is one spot away from being a 5 star and chose us over Duke and Tchikou is Kevin Durant Jr, also both are 6’11.

I get that you think Wilson is Donta Hall 2.0 but Donta Hall wasnt exactly an offensive weapon here, he averaged 3, 7, 10, 10 points his 4 years here.
