Whatever you think of him, Shack is a big loss. That’s 16 points a game and he was by far our best catch and release shooter.

There are definitely options out there

Llewelyn and Sears would be great. Llewelyn has already had an extensive visit and seems to be a point guard priority. Sears just declared but is from Muscle Shoals, and I suspect Pettway knows him.

I’ve got blind faith we are going to bring in some stud transfers. That’s where my optimism will lie for the next month until it doesn’t happen.

The good news is, Shack or no Shack, it's almost impossible to be worse shooting the 3PT than we were last year. Regardless of personel.

Whole Season
- #300 Nationally (30.9%)
- #75 out of 87 P5 teams

January 1 to season end (20 games)
- #329 Nationally (29.7%)
- #80 out of 87 P5 teams

We're going to get some dudes who averaged 11/4/2 on questionable shooting splits as the 3rd scoring option on a decent mid-major and convince ourselves they were lottery picks who were held back by the lack of resources available to them at Directional Tech U.

If we had just been an average 3pt shooting team we probably would have gotten a 2 or 3 seed.

Same here. I feel like Oats is annoyed as hell and maybe even a little embarrassed at how this season went and is going to do his best to make sure it doesn't happen again. He's so competitive - and borderline cocky - he wants to be kicking as many asses as possible every year. He's going to make sure he has some dudes on the roster next year that we just didn't have this year.

ETA: or maybe my posibammer is just in full torque.

30 three-point attempts per game
30.9%
27.8 PPG off 3s

30 three-point attempts per game
33.7% (National Average)
30.3 PPG off 3s

+2.5 PPG from 3s if we shoot them at the national average

We lost to....
- Iona by 4
- Davidson by 1
- Auburn by 4
- Mississippi State by 2
- LSU by 3 (in OT)

I fully agree. I don't think that guarantees the roster will end up being exactly what he wants, but it won't be from lack of trying. And I'd be shocked if we have a mentally wishy washy group next year.

Per Torvik, guys with the following

Stats vs Torvik Top 150 Opponents Only

- Usage rate > 15%
- at least 5 games played vs Top 150
- 3PT% > 35%
- 3PA/100 shots > 8.5
- Def PPRG > 1.50 (right around average)

That's not even taking into account the Lanes that would have opened up for attacking the basket.

Emmanuel Akot went into the portal on Friday. He's on the list above and is a very interesting player. Was a 5-star recruit at Arizona but transferred to Boise State after 2 years. 6'8, plays all 5 positions, played PG the 2nd half of the year for Boise. Career 36% 3PT shooter (shot 39% last year).

Originally from Canada. Would be a 6th year.

Emmanuel Akot - Highlights, breakdown

quote:

While Akot’s statistics aren’t eye-popping (10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 40.0 field goal percentage, 38.7 three-point percentage), he’s a highly impactful player.

Akot has a very unique skillset at the collegiate level, playing point guard at 6’8?, while also being able to defend pretty much every position on the floor. He was a huge reason Boise State was an 8-seed in the NCAA Tournament and had Ken Pomeroy’s No. 21 defense.

After being a four-star recruit out of high school in Canada, Akot committed to Arizona. He spent two seasons with the Wildcats and averaged 3.8 points as a sophomore in 2018-19.

quote:

After transferring to coach Leon Rice’s squad from Arizona in 2019, the former five-star prospect finally showcased his ability in the Treasure Valley. The Broncos moved Akot to his preferred position of point guard and gave him freedom on the court.

His length and shot creation helped Boise State blossom this season. The Broncos won the Mountain West outright, took first in the conference tournament and made the NCAA Tournament with Akot starting most of the time.

He averaged over 10 points a game, despite dealing with a knee injury for a good chunk of conference play. When he began to get healthy, Akot showed how dominant he can be. In the Mountain West Tournament, the Canadian scored 43 points while shooting just under 50%.

“Last year he played — probably was one of the only players in the country that actually played one through five,” Rice said of Akot. “His versatility gives us such freedom to use all the other guys in different ways that let them play to their strengths.”

I like Akot a lot from what I've seen offensively, but I'd want to see what he could do defensively. Between him and Bridges, we have two great lengthy options for that defensive 4-man role we were missing a lot of last year.

I really want Reeves. I feel like he'd be the perfect Shack replacement. He's Shack if Shack had elite level handles.

Reeves, Sears and Bridges would be a dream class.

Edit:

That. THAT. Give me THAT!

I'd be very happy with JQ back.

Also wonder if we'd play him off ball some.

When would he be able to return? Used to be that an ACL injury would take nearly a full year to recover. Nowadays, I have no clue.
