They're basically a likeable version of Duke to me. Not in style, but just in terms of how consistent and incredibly well coached they are. You hardly ever see them do stupid shite. I can only hope we're close to that level one day.
That's a pretty good comp - they are almost like the pre-1&done era of Duke teams.
And they really are just a likeable program. Wright is an awesome, cool dude. Their players never seem to be jackasses. They play hard as hell. Watching them play a big game is an enjoyable experience because they never seem to lay eggs*.
*post 2015, as they were basically the poster child for tournament gagging from 2006 to 2015

I would take 1 of them back….not both

yep.
I'd take Sears, Pack or Tanner over Q (even though Pack and Tanner weren't primary ball handlers). You'd get more consistent scoring and probably better D from all too.

Might be unpopular, but I thought we all agreed that we needed some real roster changes after how the season ended.
Agree with all of that. Replacing the end of our bench with some talented freshmen isn't going to change shite. Especially on defense. Pringle is the only current incoming recruit I'd expect any kind of above average defensive performance from. If we get OK defense from the high school kids I'd say that's a big win. We need better than that from the older guys though and where is it going to come from if we're rolling with like 7 guys from team that was dreadful on that end.

Some wild hot takes on JQ that im reading.
Maaaan oh man
I understand he had a rough year. But not even close? On guys unproven in this league and at the P5 level consistently? Be careful what you wish for

Fair enough but I'll take the heat if the replacement doesn't work out.
My biggest issue is not the poor shooting or higher turnover numbers. It was the lack of consistency and effort from both he and Shack last year. When it's a toughness, focus or character issue, I'm always going to want to see a change.
I can't have guys out there that will not give a consistent max effort, especially on defense. You do not produce winning teams or programs that way. Oats talked about it all season and we pretty much know who most of it was directed at-the older backcourt. It's a matter of trust.

I do think JQ will be better because I don’t think he will be depended on as much.
JD being a disappointment really hurt us and IMO hurt JQ. Because we couldn’t do anything offensively without JQ in the game because JD was a turnover machine.
I think Bradley will be better than JD at running the offense and would help take some of the load off.

And now Wilkinson has entered the portal, leaving 0 members of the 2022 LSU men's basketball team still on the roster for the 2023 season.

In this hypothetical world, JQ wouldn’t count as a scholarship would he?

I do think Bradley can help but not sure if it helps the consistent effort and defensive issues.
We bring back Q and Shack, where does the improved leadership come from we need? A group of talented freshmen can help but who's leading? Burnett probably takes the defensive leader spot from Keon but not sure he's a vocal leader and was with the team last year.
I guess the question is after what we saw this season, do we trust Q and/or Shack to LEAD next year's team. Not really sure Oats does.
Guys, don't make me go back and copy the TON of posts where this year's team was "the lowest basketball IQ you'd ever seen or the laziest or etc."
You bring back Q and Shack, you basically have the same team as last year except for the freshmen and Burnett to take Keon's spot.

I like JQ a lot. But if you can get Mark Sears for 3 seasons or JQ for one more year coming off an injury, it really isn’t close

This is the correct answer.

Mark sears semi-struggled against every big P5 school he played.
I want him too, but until I see him in an Alabama uniform and see how he performs, saying it isn’t close is completely false in my eyes

Has this ever happened before? I know the portal era has changed things a bit, but I can't recall another coaching change that saw literally the entire team bail.
Edit: Apparently Indiana retained one scholarship player after firing Sampson. I can't find anything else like this.

I was going to say, Indiana post-Sampson had to be close. Crean's first few teams there were filled with walk-ons, true freshmen and JuCo transfers. Their top PPG guy was a transfer from Vincennes University. Their #2-6 scorers were true freshmen (all 3-stars). And of course that team finished 6-25 (1-17).
Definitely a much harder situation pre-transfer portal and pre-immediate eligibility.

Our bigs are as big of a problem as anything, probably more.
They could not shoot or rebound, and were not good on defense either. You get 2 or three non shooters on the court with Shack and Q, and our offense doesnt work. Their defenders just hang in the paint and prevent our dribble drive to the goal offense.
