From what I can gather, it’s a fluid situation from both sides.

Auburn doesn’t really care to have Allen Flanigan return, and it’s been said they are in the top 2 for Stevenson, have a shot at Ellis, and will bring in a HS kid (Westry) that they love at the 3.

Ellis was by far our best player IMO. If he wants to come back I can’t imagine Oats and Hodgson letting him play anywhere else. If he does then he is a great player and would be a good fit for the Barn IMO.

That Ellis to Auburn stuff started from one poster on an Auburn message board. No one else on either side has said anything. Pretty sure if there was any truth to that we’d have heard something from our side by now

It’s not a fluid situation. Whoever said anything about Ellis transferring is trolling. He loves Bama and was a massive Bama fan growing up, and he’s declaring for the draft soon.

Perhaps his trolling is a fluid situation.

Apparently there’s talk of Keon Ellis entering the transfer portal and, if that’s the case, there’s mutual interest between him and Auburn?

I haven't seen or heard anything like that from anyone reputable, just a random post from an AU board. Anything can happen I guess, but as of now sounds like BS to me.

Doesn't even make sense really. A life long Alabama fan that plays for Alabama and is viewed as a second round NBA draft selection is going to leave Alabama and not go to the NBA so he can transfer to play for AU when he's already 22 years old. Literally none of that would make sense imo.

Keon to Auburn would makes no sense on about 100 different levels. However, it is 2022 in college sports, so I won't say anything is impossible.

PRPG! is kind of an attempt to be like WAR in baseball. Sets a level for what a "replacement player" value is (pure average) and then how many points per game more or less a player added compared to replacement level.

quote:

The basic formula for PORPAG is:

(OffRtg – 88) * %Poss * Min% *65

The 88 is the presumed O-rating of the replacement player, and the 65 at the end is the constant for possessions in a game.

Of all players in the portal with at least 60% of minutes played and a usage rate of 20.

1. Mark Sears (Ohio) (+4.5)
2. Tristen Newton (ECU) (+4.2)
3. Cam Spencer (Loyola MD) (+4.1)
3. Antonio Reeves (Illinois St) (+4.1)

Just for comparisons, our list last year

1. Keon Ellis (+4.2)
2. Jaden Shackelford (+3.8)
3. Jahvon Quinerly (+3.0)
4. Charles Bediako (+2.4)
5. JD Davison (+2.2)
6. Juwan Gary (+1.9)
7. James Rojas (+1.5)
8. Noah Gurley (+1.3)
9. Darius Miles (+1.2)
10. Jusaun Holt (-0.5)

Tanner Holden should fit into that category?

I think I also had a 3-Pt Rate filter on there.

Here is just 50% minutes, 20% usage

1. Mark Sears (Ohio) (+4.5)
2. Tanner Holden (Wright St) (+4.3)
3. Tristen Newton (ECU) (+4.2)
4. Cam Spencer (Loyola MD) (+4.1)
4. Norchad Ormier (Arkansas St) (+4.1)
4. Antonio Reeves (Illinois St) (+4.1)
7. Michael Jones (Davidson) (+3.8)
7. Marcus Hammond (Niagara) (+3.8)
7. Mason Archambault (South Dakota) (+3.8)

Dude's stat lines the 2nd half of the season are insane. Straight up Oscar Tshiebwe stuff. Just casually throwing up 24 pts and 15 rebound games every night

23 points and 26 rebounds against ULM

Kind of what I was thinking. Did you see my post last night about the comparison between these two? You had posted a list of stats for Sears. I was wondering how Tanner and Antonio compared on that list. Thanks.

I know Tanner has not had the 3pt volume but the guy can score and was a leader on a winning team. Curious how he stacked up against these other two guys. I haven't watched Sears yet. I will today, but I actually like Tanner over Antonio and Jaelin.

His game is interesting. He's an undersized post player, but he has a ton of moves, really nimble feet, and incredible touch pretty much anywhere within ~10 feet of the basket. He's not a bad FT shooter, but his shot looks kinda odd to me so I wouldn't expect a ton of face up game from him. He also seems to have Kawhi sized hands because it's wild how many post feeds and rebounds he's able to grab one handed and the ball just doesn't even move like he is using stickum.

His story is pretty interesting

quote:

“I think I was 12, 13 years old when I first picked up the first basketball,” Omier said.

But he didn’t find immediate success. “At that time I was terrible, I couldn’t dribble the ball, I couldn’t shoot, I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t dominate so I was like ‘no, I can’t make basketball beat me. I got to learn how to play it’ and when I learned how to play, oh it was just so much fun.”

While learning the game, his team in Nicaragua found success, winning tournaments around Central America. Then, he moved to the United States, playing his senior year in high school at Miami Prep. Their coach, Art Alvarez, made a phone call to Balado.

“Coach Alvarez called me and said ‘listen, I have this kid that nobody knows about and he’s getting recruited pretty good but I’m telling you, you’ll be a great fit for him because you speak the language and you guys will get along great and he’s a phenomenal player.’”

So Balado made a trip to watch Miami Prep play IMG Academy. “I went down and watched him at IMG, 41 points, 17 rebounds later, I almost kidnapped him.”

“Coach Mike was just like… we’re definitely offering him, he talked with me after the game,” Omier added. He explained to me how college worked and I was like ‘that sounds great.’ Coach B also talks Spanish so I was like, I mean, that sounds pretty good to me. Arkansas State.”

“I was happy he chose us,” Balado said. “We have a great relationship. I commend those two guys and his parents for allowing this young man at such a young age to kind of leave his country and fulfill his dream and we’ll try to continue to do that for him at Arkansas State.”

quote:

Omier became the first Nicaraguan-born player to sign a Division I scholarship.

The town he is from in Nicaragua just recently got road access to the rest of the world.

quote:

Until recently, there was no road access to Bluefields from the west coast of Nicaragua. There is now a highway from Nueva Guinea with regular bus service. The road was completed in May 2019, and was financed with loans from the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank.
