If Gurley had 2 more years left instead of 1 it's a no-brainer

Normally I would agree but next years group is gonna be our most talented in 30 years. I go all in for next year if I’m Oats IMO. Bediako isn’t ready to contribute offensively....Gurley is.

With the way the transfer portal is, I’m not sure we can assume anyone is more than a 1 year player anymore.

Considering JD might be one and done and we could lose Q, Primo and Ellis, we need a plug and play big over Bediako.

Has any consideration been made by the NCAA for basketball, or other sports, and scholarship limits since everyone was given an extra year?
Seems like there would be a negative trickle down effect to freshmen not getting scholarships due to upper classmen staying around using up the few available ones.

Yeah you can. Just not guys who play limited minutes in their first season at a program. I do think we're going to see fewer and fewer guys at P-6 programs who follow a sit as freshmen, play 5-10 minutes as sophomores, and play 6th man/starter minutes as upperclassmen career path though.

In year 3 coming off the best season the program has had in 17 years? I mean yeah it's going to be an extremely deep and talented roster, but if recruiting continues to go well there's no reason the 2022 roster won't be extremely talented as well.

For football, the NCAA ruled that returning 2020 seniors won't count toward the 2021 85 total counters limit, but I haven't seen anything similar reported about basketball or other sports.

It’s this way for all of them. The players still financially count though, so a lot of smaller schools are still sticking to 85 while not explicitly saying it.

The class of freshman recruits in football is the smallest it’s been in awhile.

Greg Byrne hired Adia Barnes, the women's bball coach at 'zona. That's encouraging. The Wildcats just lost a heartbreaker to Stanford in the title game.

Crazy to not have made the tournament since 2005 and then make it all the way to the championship game. Lightning in a bottle season.

The only two scholarship players set to be on our roster next year over 6'6" who have logged a single minute of D1 basketball are KAH and Miles

I understand you mean experienced at D1, but we do have good size with high rated players coming in. Tchikou will play next year at 6'11" and 240. Also, Langston Wilson is 6'9" and will play more 3 or 4, though will need time to develop. Having two 6'10" plus guys (if Bediako signs with us) to play inside, plus Wilson at 6'9" will definitely shore up our inside game. Gurley is more a 3/4 than a 4/5 player. Tchikou can go outside too and shoot 3's. That size will put pressure on defenses and help our guards get more open shots. We could be really good. I hope this week clears up our roster picture. signing day April 14.

Top Tide hoops target close to decision (TWatts, BOL)

Looks like the long anticipated decision of Charles Bediako could finally be coming. The IMG 4-star has been the Tide’s top remaining priority in the highly-regarded 2021 class. At this stage in the process it’s safe to say that UA is trending in the right direction with no exact date set to announce, but it’s expected to be in the near future.

Credit Bama assistant Bryan Hodgson for leading the way here. Bediako has been pursued by several of the heavyweights of college hoops, including Duke, Ohio State, Michigan, and Texas, among others. It’s always a team effort with the Tide staff and Nate Oats, but Hodgson has been heavily involved with the inroads of Bediako’s recruitment.

The Canada native would be the cherry on top of an elite UA class that saw Bama ink a three-man group, headlined by five-star point guard JD Davison. A Bediako commitment would give the Tide the No. 3 class in the country as things stand.

Not doing a CB pick, but if I did it would be Alabama. Which is my prediction.

Per other posts in thst thread, including Tim's, transfers out are unlikely, except maybe Rojas.

Thanks for posting that!

Bediako is better than a lot of posters here think. Programs like Duke, Ohio State and Michigan wouldn’t want him so bad if he wasn’t a really good player. He will be a huge get if we land him.

He and Tchikou would be an elite combination.

Bama might have as many international players as Gonzaga.

Do they say anything about Burnett or Gurley? Because they're committing this week too and in order for either of them to be able to sign with us we'd either need one unexpected draft declaration + agent hire or a transfer out.

I don’t expect much if anything from him offensively in year 1, but it’ll be nice to have another 6’11 guy on the roster to put out there defensively against teams that have legitimate post presences. It’ll give us a much better chance than when we were asking Rojas or Reese to stop a true 5.
