Baylor is about to win the Tournament, aren’t they?
Maybe, but I wouldn’t base it off this game. UCLA was a matchup problem for Gonzaga...they couldn’t cover Juzang and Jaquez in the half court. Baylor plays a different style; similar to Gonzaga, they push the ball up court...and Gonzaga will be more in their element in a running game. It’ll likely be a much different game style wise...doesn’t mean Baylor can’t win it, though...

You’re right, again, Cronin showed he can play chess with anyone, even if he doesn’t have all the pieces the other guy does.
Baylor will try to play Gonzaga’s game with the fast pace and will get blown out of the arena. This one won’t be in doubt very deep into the second half. Load up on Gonzaga.

I don't think we blew the game, I give them credit for beating us, they played really well, especially in OT.
We didn't just have a bad night at the FT line. It was a horrific night of historical proportions. If you think that isn't blowing a game, you just don't do basketball very well.
Being historically and monumentally shitty from the FT line is the epitome of blowing the game. They got the calls they needed from the refs. They had the opportunity 25 times...plus more when you consider the 1&1s...to stand there 15 feet away, take a breath, get comfortable, and make a shot with no defender guarding them, and were historically horrible. You couldn't create a more textbook example of blowing a game.

Baylor is way to athletic to get blown out.
I like Baylor in this game.

We were good enough to beat Gonzaga, on a good night, I think.
We definitely blew the UCLA game. We should have won somewhat comfortably.

So, rank the teams in the tournament.
Lets give 1, 2, 3 to Baylor, Gonzaga, and UCLA.
Who is next?
Houston never played a seed higher than 10. But, Alabama didn't either.
Michigan? They looked good until just falling to the same UCLA team we lost to.

Maybe I’m a homer, but I’d rank Bama with Gonzaga and Baylor. We were just atrocious against UCLA. I’d like to give UCLA more credit, but they had nothing to do with us missing free throws like that.

4. Michigan

We were good enough to beat anyone if we could finish layups, make free throws and hit at least some of our threes.
Our problem was we would go absolutely cold from three so when we're missing those layups it hurts more.
It's amazing the difference between us an Gonzaga is they didn't miss more free points then they made.
It's really sad and it makes me even sadder thinking about the fan that died and wondering weird thoughts like if we had stayed would he have not gotten covid.
Done rambling lol

Alabama January version could give Baylor and Gonzaga a game. End of season Bama, not so much. There are several varying opinions on why we peaked in January and labored to the end of the year, but Bama was definitely a shadow of the juggernaut that was plowing through the SEC early on. If we had managed to win against UCLA, I think Michigan would have sent us home from the Elite Eight. It gives me great hope that we can hit a similar peak in March sometime soon with Oats.
It’s also maddeningly frustrating that once again, Bama runs into the hot team and coach in the Sweet Sixteen. That’s the history and curse of the program in a nutshell.

We didn't peak. We literally had a better game than most of those January games two days before we missed 12 of 23 free throws in the sweet sixteen.
This was all mental.
From the aspect we go absolutely cold (did UCLA ever? Baylor? Gonzaga?) to the fact all of a sudden we can't even make a free throw. It was all a mental collapse.

Next years' team has a chance to make a very deep run if a few things work out.
You will have very experienced guards, wings that can fill it up, and a sixth man that brings defense, rebounding and energy.
We will absolutely be better in the post if our young guys develop and if Bediako comes in we will be deeper. by midseason this can be a team no one wants any of. Size enough to match up with most and speed enough to do the same.

If we sign one or both of Burnett and Bediako it'll be the deepest and most talented team in the conference, Kentucky included. The only real question mark in my mind is how our front court situation plays out. The only known commodities there right now are Gary, who we know is good, and Rojas, who we know is not good. Wilson, Tchikou, and potentially Bediako have combined for 0 minutes of D1 basketball.
The only question mark with our guard and wing situation is figuring out how to put the pieces together, which really isn't much of a question mark and is the best kind of problem to have.

I think all three are already better than Reese tbh. He gave great effort but he just wasn’t a good player. Shot sub 30% from 3 and defense was average at best.

We made Noah Gurleys top 8. I wonder if Nate told Bediako to hold off to see what Gurley does

Would we rather have a transfer than Bediako at this point? We’ve been on him for so long, it seems odd to cool off on him now. With limited space left in the class, Burnett possibly transferring, and the other new transfer offers, something definitely seems to be up.
Could the staff be expecting a transfer or two we’re unaware of right now? Targets are changing as new players enter the portal? Maybe they feel good about next year's team and want to make a push for experience?
Any of it seems possible, but it’s so hard to tell as quickly as this is going. I suppose we’ll know what the team will look like in a month or so.

I'm on the fence. The only two scholarship players set to be on our roster next year over 6'6" who have logged a single minute of D1 basketball are KAH and Miles, which I don't feel great about. However, I also think that Bediako is one of those guys who will struggle a bit as a freshman and then turn into a pretty elite paint defender/rebounder as a sophomore and junior. If Gurley had 2 more years left instead of 1 it's a no-brainer but I just don't want us to get into the habit of having a revolving door of small school grad transfers in our front court. It'll eventually be a disaster. It almost was this year until Gary stepped up late in the season.

Pretty sure he does have 2 years left.

He played three seasons at Furman, but I guess all of this guys retained a year of eligibility. So yes, technically he would have two years left, even though he’s a senior.
ETA: Whether or not he would choose to use both of eligible years is another question.
He might be a better player for one season, but I think I would prefer the continuity of Bediako for several years to another front court transfer.
